Trigger warning for cancer mention, but Sam recorded that final song before his surgery to remove cancer from his tonsils. They got it and he's on the mend, but knowing that for me, makes the song resonate even more.
There were reasons as to why they couldn’t end Season 3 the way that Dustin remembers. And frankly, I liked the way the season ended, as they were able to part ways but they still gave us that tease to assure us that they will gather back together eventually. For once, they are able to breathe and enjoy life for a change, until they are once again called upon. Think of it as an extended “long rest”.
Fun fact: the sub-voice for undead Thordak was done by Levar Burton of Star Trek and Reading Rainbow. Another fun fact is that his daughter Mica is a friend of the cast, and has appeared as a guest in the campaign as well as other things like conventions, which might be how they got him involved.
The set-up for season 4 is definitely less in-your-face than the previous seasons, but that makes perfect sense. When they finished production on seasons 1 & 2, they already had the next season coming. As far as I can tell, when they finished production on season 3, season 4 had not yet been greenlit. So, they wouldn't want to put too much on there if they didn't get to pay it off.
They said in the watch party that if this was going to be the end of the series, that they wanted it to be on a happy note. So that's why there wasn't the "Bard's Lament". No "What's my mother's name". I would bet money that the end scene with the cult was produced but wasn't included in the episode until they got season 4 confirmed.
I like that they bookended Keyleth and Raishan’s rivalry by having the former being the first and last thing that the latter sees. Season 1, Episode 2: Raishan sees her through her eye-crystal. Season 3, Episode 12: Raishan sees her as she rots away and dies.
So, to expand on what I had said in the last video (C1 spoilers): In the campaign, Raishan wasn't able to complete the ritual before VM came in and stopped her, but if she had, Matt said she would have escaped, and become a big bad in Campaign 2, either as a dracolich herself, or with Thordak as an undead thrall. Again, I can't remember which Matt had said, but it's still interesting to consider that alternate timeline, and how the M9 would have handled that.
Thanks guys for your reactions, I always enjoy your content. CR is learning and getting better at what they do, with the support of other great companies and people. I'm sure they have so much more to surprize us with, especially with Matt Merser at the lead, who knows whats in that mans mind?
Keyleth’s come a long way since Season 1. She found love that keeps her tethered. She found her own path to becoming a leader. She’s survived undeath, passed through fire, braved the fey realm, went to hell and back, and conquered her nemesis. And she did so by utilizing all she’s learned across three seasons to outlast and outwit her, baiting her into incinerating her own corpse, thus leaving the diseased ashes open to being “reclaimed” by the earth and free to be transferred back into her new body. In other words, she _deceived the Deceiver,_ beating Raishan at her own game and reducing her to being the DECEASED Deceiver. Also, a standing ovation for Marisha Ray and Cree Summer for bringing their deadly rivalry to life that’s been building up from way back in Season 1, Episode 2 all the way to now.
dracolitch I think. I remember in the campaign a fan sent Matt one for Critmas. he was so excited while everyone tried to convince him 'that with Pike there he's the one that becomes our friend...right?'
One random thing I can't remember, I could go back and figure out where the vampire drama story ended, but where the sphere ended up. Whitestone would make sense but I think they would be much more aware of a cult growing up and now with Percy and Vex there, they would suss it out (though I do know there is the story of them getting married and Scanlon is the only one who knows, so the three of them being together to call the rest in would make sense). But there is a part of me that has this feeling its in the main capital and like random cult murders might be written off. And like while Pyke is trying to figure herself out now, Grog and Kima go off to spar.
@michaelkemmet834 i figured that one was the one we had seen previously back in season one connected to the vampire's wife and how she was the last one I remember (just show watching and in a binge, I might have missed things) mentioning the Whispered One (who coloring wise, if that was him, reminds me of Mr. Sinister)
I honestly didn’t think they were gonna bring Percy back! I thought that the most they could do was somehow destroy Orthax and have Percy’s soul released so he could move on to the afterlife. Because normally I’m not in favor of bringing dead characters back to life (even though ironically I’m a lifelong Dragon Ball fan) because then it really lessens the stakes for the characters, but this was done in such a brilliant and beautiful way that I was completely onboard the whole time. Especially since it seems like Vax likely traded in all but a few years left in his lifespan for Percy’s resurrection.
I think Travis had mentioned that they weren’t sure they were going to get a season 4. So they had to leave season 3 in a place. where if that was the end. It would be a good conclusion for the show.
It's interesting how they didn't do the visceral version of the lament, but it did fit for the season given that they changed a fair amount of moments and they didn't know they'd get a Season 4 so didn't want to end on a downer. I guess there's still potential to do it in the next season, since the group - probably at the behest of Redacted as a way to write them in - will have to find and re-recruit each other
This whole episode was so amazing that I genuinely thought that this was the SERIES finale. Vex and Percy finally end up together, Vax and Keyleth are going off to finally finish her pilgrimage, and Scanlan is going to travel the world with his daughter. Though it did feel like Pike and Grog were left behind almost like dead weight. But just when I thought it was over they reminded us that the story with The Whispered One is still unresolved! Hopefully (and I’m all in favor of giving them time to cook) we don’t have to wait another almost 2 years for the next season.
The show version of Scanlan's story was so much better. The campaign version very much felt like forced melodrama because Sam wanted to stir the pot before switching characters. This felt like an actual arc with character growth. The second half of season 1 was solid but that first half of S1 is by far the weakest part of the entire show. The simple storytelling in S3 blows it so far out of the water it sometimes doesn't even feel like the same show.
19:10 “You break our hearts then leave us with THAT a$$hole!?”
-Liam on those events. 😂

We love Dracoliches with breath-weapons that do necrotic damage.

That’s so cool! We loved seeing Mica in campaign 2
Actually Lance Reddick and Levar Burton were friends and Lance Reddicks wife asked Matt i think for Levar Burton to do undead Thordak.

*🎉HE’S BAAAACK!🎉*
Now that wait for Season 4(and the Whispered One’s inevitable return) begins…
Was the “Trust Me” shirt intentional? It goes well with Keyleth’s story here 😂
lol! A pure coincidence

Percival his return is a happy ending to this season

The spheres are immovable, but there's more than one ziggurat and more than one sphere.

I assume your is something to do with T or D. But I think we have to have 🔔 appear to prep for C3?
B-🔔 has a Grog-focused adventure, though.
