0:30 12:43 Mizushōbai (水商売、みずしょうばい) is not straight up prostitution.
From Wiki: "literally the water trade, is the euphemism for jobs that do not provide a contractually fixed salary, but instead, rely on the popularity of the performer among their fans or clientele. Broadly, it includes the television, theater, and movie industries, but more narrowly, it can refer to those who work in businesses that serve alcohol or sex work."
It is a downright insult to those in the "water trade" in Ginza to call them prostitutes. Ginza is known for the best classiest hostesses at exclusive clubs, where they offer companionship, basically sitting next to them and chatting while the customer to order drinks and food. Those who can afford to go to these clubs expect to spend at least $1,000 equivalent for a hour. Nothing of sexual nature is performed at these clubs, nor there are string attached.
As you have also experienced, Ginza also has the most amount of cultured and wealthy people. It is the reason why even young, beautiful women would have an extremely difficult time being hired as a hostess since Ginza clientele expects a high level of sophistication. In example, they would expect you to be able to advise them on stocks and other investments, whereas anywhere else, playing the dumb girl and asking about it would be the best move. On a tangent, the reason why the man in the jean jacket nervously laughed, is that the hurdle for foriegners are even higher. In his head he was thinking of how to politely discourage Kate, should she have continued with that question.

Yeah there's a mistranslation. I think "mizu shoubai 水商売" mostly refers to the night life type of jobs such as being a hostess at a club? Like sure, there might be some under-the-table deals going on at those clubs, but that's not always the case and is hence not quite the same as "prostitution". The thumbnail should be changed because the man did not explicitly say "oh go be a prostitute" or anything like that which would be rude, he only suggested to work in the night life industry.
@@emirin8044 Yes, but it's a little misleading. It's true that the hostess of the club is Mizu shoubai, but so are the bars that are open at night. There are different genders and occupations. Also, prostitution is illegal in Japan. The deal under the table is the same for any job. Don't spoil the image of the hostess profession.

Wrong translation fot "prostitution". "Mizu shobai" has many meaning and the guy meant "working at bar" this time. Ginza is a fancy area, there aint' no prostitution thing going.

Getting rich is Japan is hard. Self-interest / getting rich for yourself is frowned upon. I know a Japanese technician from an international company who has worked for the company for 15 years and only gets paid the equivalent of 2000 USD/month. He was the guy sent oversea for technical support.
Yea, community-first society like japan and korea is the harder one to get rich on, because like you say, it is frowned upon. But tbh, the rich of those east asia country is just untouchable
That's why people say capitalism is the least evil of the current economy system government applies.
That culture might actually make it easier to get rich. Less people are willing to do the things that make a lot of money, which means less competition and higher chances of growth for those few who are. In the west, most of the "get rich" methods are constantly saturated because everyone and their mothers is trying to do them.
Smarter but no brighter with fixes. I mean. His salary can get a business in India bought with software developers for 2k. He just doesn't know the opportunity on the Internet or how to buy as it requires complicated international bank processes. Which is really difficult to do. And most regular people don't know how to do it. Which holds them back in economic and financial development.

I really enjoyed this interview perhaps that first guy inside the bar was a jerk.
From my experience living 30 years in Japan I can say I did exactly the first 2 guys said. I worked hard with what I could do in the beginning. Really hard work. 8am to 11pm, Monday to Saturday and sometimes Sunday. After making some money (because you need money to make more money) I started investing in Real Estate. Now I have some houses and a building. My friend and family say I’m rich but I feel I still need to work a little more to have a good retirement.
The health thing that real estate guy said is correct. And of course, studying about investments is a must anywhere if you wanna become rich not only in Japan.
The only extreme negative thing about becoming very rich in Japan is you have to pay a lot of taxes so I plan to become just a little rich in Japan and after that, invest in another country.

So I grew up here in Osaka Japan even though my nationality is not japanese. BUT I AGREE WITH THEIR OPINIONS more than 100 percent! All you need is knowledge, good mindset or foreign mindset, awareness, and patience.
You need to know multiple given and ungiven factors.

That was very interesting, yes you have to do want you like most and work hard. I read a book called How to Ikigai. It seems most of your interviewees follow the principle of finding happiness while living your life's purpose, i.e. doing what you're good at, love and know.

the world 水商売 you translated as prostitutes is wrong. this means the service that serves drinks (including non alchohol drinks) and most of the time it refers to Hostess bar, host club and regular bars.
I translated it as “red light district “ when he talks. And prostitution when when we talk cause that’s what we thought he meant. This interviews starts without camera and end without camera too. So we know what he meant, politely

Taxes in Japan makes it ridiculously difficult to become financially rich there. I don't think it's actually possible unless you inherited some wealth to give you cushion to start off.
Disagree. There are plenty of opportunities in Japan. The biggest gap lies in the fact that it's more common to go the salaryman-way. The country side has real estate and space, Japan needs food export, import and lacks communication, IT/digital and language skills. It's up to entrepeneurs to know how to build a case, create a team and be financially savvy. Know how to manage expenses and investment, thus the basics of accounting. Tax rates in Sweden are a lot higher. Yet it has plenty of more succesfsful entrepreneurs (eg Spotify. Klarna, Einride,...).
Idk how this ended up on my YTrecommendation's but I like this content. I'm instrested in Japan but this a great idea even for future videos! I wish'd you do more of this kinda thing. Finding rich people and asking them how they became successful and how to get there. Hell, you might even get invited into some of these "High Society Event's" if you keep at it and ask them there too. Friendly looking people are always nice to have around(Which you are). You basically just need to get a fuckton of input and then practice outputting. Look up channels like "Matt vs Japan" and "Organic Japanese with Cure Dolly". They explain in detail what you have to do.
