SPAIN is a Latin jazz tune originally composed by Chick Corea back in 1973. Then in 1980, jazz singer Al Jarreau put in the lyrics, recorded and sang it. Filipino singer, songwriter, dancer Gary Valenciano did this cover, maintaining the core of song by scatting too, but made it his own. In this song he immerses himself into the song by scatting, doing vocal percussion displaying his vocal prowess, breath control, phrasing, imitating sounds of various musical instruments like the lead guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, saxophone, drums, congas, bongos and even the triangle. It takes a very seasoned and experienced jazz singer to do what he does, showcasing the passion and the musicality in him. Here in the Philippines, he is known as MR. PURE ENERGY. That's correct mark, these young cats of today have no idea what is what, Al was a human percussionist, in New York or LA Jazz set if you cant sing this you don't work. Gary V did a good job.

The song was written by jazz-pianist Chick Corea when he had his fusion band called Return to Forever in 1971. Then Al Jarreau wrote lyrics and recorded the song on his 1980 This Time album.

Yes thats Gary V otherwise known as "Mr. Pure Energy." He definitely is a dramatic performer singing pop and ballads also a great actor. He is also 50+ yo and recently had heart surgery. Fun fact the Philippines is known for having the best singers just like Kat, Mori, KZ, Khel, Darren, RJ, Regine, Jona and ofcourse Ms Lea Salonga. Too much to mention and two international ones such as Nicole Sherzinger and Jennifer Hudgens. They sing with power and soul. They sing liffffe! Thank you great vlog as always. It"s a jazz classic. What he was doing was called scatting. The singer imitates solos by instruments with his voice. Most singers do one or two instruments and just scats syllables. He was imitating lots of instruments, trumpets, bass, guitar, percussion, etc. One of the original versions was by the late Al Jarreau. It's a jazz classic and iconic. This man from the Phillipines is called MR. ENERGY over there.

Yeah, I can pretty much guarantee that there's a dynamic compressor on the mixer channel that automatically adjusts the audio levels to match a certain decibel when it's either lower or higher. That's why it doesn't matter how far away he is from the microphone.

Chick Corea is not a group but the componist of ;"Spain" and he is a Jazz pianist. Al Jarreau wrote the lyrics and Gary V. uses the same lyrics! GaryV is the mentor of Katrina Velarde and Gary V.=53 years and the Grand Daddyn of the Filipinos singers and also called;"Mr.Pure Energy and the Michael Jackson, he can also dance ! OMG !! LOL !!
