kind of an unpopular opinion, but white and beige themed GMK sets are so nice when shined. My 9009 set has a pretty even shine to it, and it just looks so classic and retro.
There's something oddly satisfying about a set of well-used GMK keycaps. It's almost like a patina, and the more shine my keycaps get, the more I enjoy using them.
Mode’s mixed PBT / ABS keycaps sound like a potential solution. I’m picking up two sets for my new Sonnet and Envoy keyboards. Anthracite and Tomorrow keycaps. $80 each. And they come with proper Mac keys! GMK sounds less attractive for sure.
I agree, lighter caps do look better. The mod keys are particularly weird, as you can see with the stems showing. I think the way ABS cools results in warping you can't see all that much until you chrome it (For modifiers only really)
I used them doing chat and ticket support for a software company and webhost. I also used them at home for gaming and such. It was about 1 year. I still have the set but don't use the board they're on much right now (waiting on a 6u topre stabilizer bar)
I own a set I've shined that's PBT, but it took a hell of a lot longer than this did. I've also owned many more PBT sets that were not warped than sets that were warped. I'm perfectly fine with both and buy both.
I don’t get it. Why would people spend hundreds of dollars for keycaps that looks oily and gross over time when they can spend well under $100 for fine keycaps that will always look new
many people really like the look and feel of aged, high quality ABS keycaps Personally I don't mind either way, but I hate cherry profile keycaps so I'm not buying gmk anyways
becuase gmks sets are quite valuable and go up in price but also because they are a higher quality in terms of lettering and color compared to most other brands and in case you dont know PBT keycaps can also shine just at a slower rate
This was used daily for ticket support at cPanel for at least a few months. Imagine hours of typing pretty consistently, both in tickets and in my terminal, google, whatever.
that would be grease. this si not grease but natural abs shine. the mold is actually not super smooth and thus we are smoothing out the plastic making it hella shiny. it feels more like glossy texture than sticky.
Ewww I hate ABS shine so much, some people like it as I can see in the comment seciton but to me shine is disgusting and nothing more than taht. I bought one ABS set, used it for 2 weeks and swaped it back to PBT because i was to scared to make it shiny. Probably will set the sell and let someone else polish it 😄
Just finished polishing my gmk peaches n cream lite. Looks so nice. I couldn’t find any pbt sets that weren’t subdye. I’d rather my keycaps shining than my legends disappearing like gmk redact..
Im a big fan of shined gmk, they look super nice
shine looks so good

This fanaticism makes people dumb really
I think an even shine looks good as well, looks loved and used like an old favorite shirt or jacket.
To be loved is to be changed
they are even more beautiful😍😍
Man that's so nice, I love shine on GMK

You can shine them manually if you want to so it has a uniform shine
depends on the keycaps color tho, some is ugly when shine
Very engaging video for just uncut handheld footage and talking ngl
thanks, I recorded it for discord, but I guess I never realized how many views it got heh
Can't wait till my set gets shined, those look so nice
Yes to shine.
Great video demonstration, thank you
ABS plastic wearing off and slowly conforming to continuous typing somewhat reminds me of Birkenstock soles. The more you use it, the better it feels.
Exactly, your tool has formed to you and your usage. It's in a way a special thing of its own.
Great analogy!
no way we comparing stock vs lubed on keycaps now
nice video
I found it helpful

Imo it doesn't need a solution I enjoy the feel of shined gmk. Plus gmk abs sounds amazing
You know pbt still shines right

i must say dark gmk keycaps look really odd with shine, but the beige, cp, ws1 look... pretty descent with shine

I love shiny and yellowed keycaps, but man, the indentation due to usage is what bothers me.
The modifiers can get real bad for sure.
more sets on this one keyboard than gmk ships out in a year
Damn, you right. Shoutout to the 3 sets I'm waiting on.
@@wooviee Which ones you waiting on or already got?
How long have u been using those?

thanks for the info!
I respect the preference but my OCD cannot stand GMK shining
So in other words, embrace the shine???
Or buy nicely designed PBT sets that aren't stolen designs, both are valid :D I love both.
@@wooviee PBT still shines and warps, plus you don't get the same vibrant colors that you do with ABS.

I own plenty of both PBT and ABS sets. I don't care about shine. I like both. Shrug.
it's good if its all the keys are shined, but it's gonna look really weird if it's just a few keys

@@wooviee that sounds like pain and I couldn't imagine doing it on a membrane keyboard
does it feel sticky to tpye on?

Only a tiny bit, it's really not too bad.
Name of the set?
check the descreption its a mix of multiple sets
are all gmk pbt ?
They’re abs

unpopular opinion, only hipsters buy GMK
