She flew back off to Malaysia from the USA just to perform at this show. She was born in 1962,so she was 24 at that time. This song really brings us back in time when there were no gadgets/mobile devices.
Fran is a legend. In this AJL 1, Fran's other song 'Aku Kehilanganmu' won the 2nd place. There was no Best Vocal award in AJL 1 but there was Best Performance award, won by Alleycats through 'Sampaikan Salam Cintaku'. From the early days AJL song winners, worth reacting to Ramlah Ram (AJL 3), Aishah (AJL 5, 10) Fauziah Latiff (AJL 8), M Nasir & Jamal (AJL 12), Siti Nurhaliza (AJL 11, 13, 14, though I think her best performance is in AJL 16 through Ya Maulai which won Best Performance award in AJL 16, but didn't win the best song). Also of course Liza Hanim's 'Gelisah Mimpi (AJL 17) which won the first best vocal category) and the late Sudirman's 'Merisik Khabar' which won Best Performance award in AJL 2. The late Sudirman was Malaysia's legendary singer who won Asia's No 1 Performer competition in 1989.
I was born in 86. This song is particularly a legend of a legend. Shes inspired so many singers like Siti Nurhaliza herself. Thanks for reacting to this song Yazik.
This brings a lot of memories. This song was really huge, still is actually. One of those evergreen songs. It's a broken-hearted song, basically about 'you dumped me and now you want me back as if nothing happened, so no thanks'. Something like that haha.
Just to let you know, Best Vocal award was created in 2002 and the first winner was Liza Hanim. Before that, there were only awards for best songs and best performance.

AJL started off just as a regular song competition. I remember it used to be held in the afternoon. Meaning it was not a prime time attraction because it was held at 2 in the afternoon. But as years passed, it becomes more and more of a big deal, the production got bigger, and singers used AJL as the platform to show the capabilities. Now AJL is the aim and benchmark for all singers and songwriters in Malaysia. If you’re able to go to the final, you are something.

AJL may have begun in 1986 but this song competition actually grew out of an earlier version of singing competition known as the Juara Bintang RTM (Radio TV Malaysia) in the later part of 1970s which had produced one of our great legends - the late Sudirman Arshad. But it is at AJL that originality in song composition, lyrics, delivery & reception from the society at large are taken into account.
even i was born on 1995 , but Fransisca Peter is my first favourite singer because of this song . im just love her voice .

Believe it or not, I never missed watching AJL since the first edition..Wait, I'm not that old if that's in your mind😆. I was still a young kid during the 80's, but since my father loved (he still does) watching singing shows, I was 'forced' watching them. I end up having the same interest as my father😍 This song brings my sweet childhood memories with him when we both sang along whenever we hear it on the radio or tv🥰

I was 6yr old at this time. I love to sing. I remember singing this song again and again after watching the AJL finale. Just imagine me 6 yrs old can remember her song... It was an epic song that time. Everyone know this song.

As far as I know, there is no vocal award for AJL1, the first vocal winner is Liza Hanim in AJL17 (2002) as the judges were very impressed with her vocal as she sound almost the same as in recording version.

I love Fran.. she's the first ever singer that I've known when I know what is singing hahah.. her songs are evergreens.. I believed almost all of the Malaysians knows her songs.. I grew up listening to her songs .. first AJL she won the main prize and 1st runner up for her 2nd song.. so basically..she won the first and second place.. and both songs are my favorites too

For AJL (1986-2001), I think BEST PERFORMANCE is related for Best Vocal & Best Performance. Because at that time, AJL just focus for No. 1,2&3 (only for Musical & Lyric) + Best Performance. But starting 2002, AJL announced that they have new category as a Bonus (Best Vocal). And Liza Hanim is 1st singer won that arward. I hope Yazik will check Best Performance from yrs 1986-2001 and not only for AJL winner.

Me now in my 40s... When this song out years ago I just a kid .. and yup this SEKADAR DIPINGGIRAN is a must song in karaoke hahaha... And when weddings ... I still remember the 1st AJL, i was 8 years back then.. watching this with my black and white tv , yup it's so bring back memories with my late mom.. my mom fancies her so much... Francisca now almost late 50s, or in her 60s

My mum told me that francissca peter’s main language is not bahasa melayu, she cant even converse fluently in malay languange. However, her pronounciation in her singing is veryyyyy good, crystal clear, bright and without any accent. True singer she is.
She can speak bahasa very fluently. I have seen her interviews in Bahasa.
