He’s not a hero. That’s not the point. He’s a human who made many serious past mistakes and is doing all he can to crawl into feeling whole again. June completes him; she isn’t a hero either. She was never supposed to be. She’s a woman doing ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to save her child and others children (To this point) You tell me now she hasn’t done despicable crap to people; and that she isn’t getting worse and worse. Bad that wants to be good. Good that HAS to be bad. They balance each other.

After all, every time he risks his life for the sake of his beloved... From the side from which we are shown it in the series, Commander Blaine is a hero🙃 P.S. If anything, I’d just call him an Anti-hero.And really You can’t blame June for becoming what she is becoming. What they do to regularly behaving Handmaids is bad enough to make you go insane and lose your identity. Just look at poor Janine. In the book, when she came to the Red Center she was pretty much a “sane” woman with an attitude problem; but they broke her mind and soul, not just her body. I’m amazed that June hasn’t lost it altogether at this point. I almost don’t want to know what will happen when Serena Joy has her baby. They always seem to be trying to one up each other. I have a theory she will, or at least try, to take Serena’s baby to get back at her for taking Hannah. And that poor babies going to be used like a political pawn like both June’s girls. It’s just a theory, but for sure she is losing grip.

Now unless you've finished Season 4, I admit I haven't even watched it apart from the first 3 episodes which of course includes that heartbreaking scene on the crossing, I then decided to binge watch the series from the beginning, so I'm not going to spoil it for you unless you want to know! I did and though I don't know what happens for definite as I didn't want to I've got a pretty good idea which of course you'll also already know if you're up to date as Season 4 finished last week!

Even if she doesn't end up with Nick, she doesn't have a healthy relationship with Luke anymore. She'll have her daughters, but I predict that they'll divorce (and both have custody of Hannah) whether or not Nick leaves Gilead.
Mingella's acting with just his facial expression is so underrated. Nick isn't just a stoic character and the character being named Nick Blaine after Casablanca's Rick Blaine isn't a coincidence either. There's so much artistry and symbolism going on with the position of characters and lighting. It's all intentional. Its very beautiful.

You have to feel bad for Nick. Here he is in love with a strong women who time after time he tries to protect to no avail. How many times has he given her a chance for her freedom even knowing he may never see her again, or possibly sending her back to her husband. She has made it impossible putting his life in danger constantly and still he loves her. I know Hannah is in the balance but June's actions have caused devastating chain reactions to those around her. As much as I do want to see them together in the end the only way I see that happening is with their deaths.
My favourite ship that I know will inevitably end in heartache. The only way for them to stay together is for June to stay in Gilead since he’s a war criminal. Either June suffers for the rest of her life for a little salvation with Nick or they get out and he goes to jail or is killed. Sadly, it can’t end happy but I’ll still ship them🤪

I am not a fan of nick Lucas is the one considering how he accepted nicole don't know what's going to happen in season 4 with June and Lucas but hoping they find their back to each other
And get their daughter back..Lucas just understood what happened and why,without even experiencing a fraction of what June and so many others have gone through THERE. He loves her so much, hes happy she had someone to love and protect her in that place.....now I love her and Nick together but they've both always known if they ever got out ,she would be with her husband..and he would be a part of his daughter's life still..but since now he's a Commander he'll have to give some REALLY good information to the Canadian government and help them while at Gilead ,to be able to avoid a harsh sentence in Canada..he would obviously have witnesses to him being one of the reasons June escaped, wasn't killed,got their baby out and how many other babies and women ? She was a responsible party in spreading their religion, murdering the American government, and waging a takeover of America. She’s responsible for systemic murder, child abduction, enslavement, rape, and torture. She is a monster. And she did it all because she is a sociopath...a sociopath who wanted children so badly that she actually concocted an entire religion, government, and army to get what she wanted! Her creation simply ended up being a prison of her own making and somewhat turning on her. She suffered control (no reading, no say, and so on), abuse from her husband (the beating), and punishment from her government (her finger), in Gilead. But she’d used the freedom and power she’d originally had as an American, to create the evil regime and country of Gilead.....and then she continued to use what little power she had left, within Gilead’s walls, to make those who were beneath her suffer her wrath. He's intriguing and has a romantic soul) But first he was an eye / driver, then he became a commander. And every time he does something that hurts June, what is his response: "Sorry, I had to do it." Yes, he does things to try to save her. But he is not the one who sacrifices his life. So that's my feeling ... I just think because of his position he'll have to do things he doesn't want to do to keep his place at the table. The end of episode 5 for example. Also, Max said in an interview that in Episode 10 we wouldn't expect what was going to happen, that he was like, "Ok, where do we go from here?”. So yeah, it's just a feeling. I may be wrong. She suffered control (no reading, no say, and so on), abuse from her husband (the beating), and punishment from her government (her finger), in Gilead. But she’d used the freedom and power she’d originally had as an American, to create the evil regime and country of Gilead.....and then she continued to use what little power she had left, within Gilead’s walls, to make those who were beneath her suffer her wrath. There is no redemption for Serena.

But first he was an eye / driver, then he became a commander. And every time he does something that hurts June, what is his response: "Sorry, I had to do it."
Yes, he does things to try to save her. But he is not the one who sacrifices his life.
So that's my feeling ... I just think because of his position he'll have to do things he doesn't want to do to keep his place at the table.

@@MRSWIWI he sacrifices his life by helping June, if he's caught he'll be on the wall for sure. The Martha worded it perfectly in episode 5 when he asked about June because everyone who helps her ended up dead. He isn't reckless like June is but he is helping her for sure.
@@amibelle9270 I understand your point of view. But for me, Nick never "sacrificed" his life for June. Sacrificing and risking your life are two different words. June sacrificed her life several times. People who died (Marthas, handmaids, etc.) sacrificed their lives for something. Nick did no such thing. Due to his current position as a commander. He can't do what he wants. That's why he risks his life for her by finding her a way out of Gilead while keeping his job.
I agree with you in that he sacrifices his "love" for June (knowing that he may never see her again) to get her out of here. Not his life. No one died because of Nick. Anyway, that's my point. ^^
