Honestly after watching the whole show, it feels crazy to say, but Connor feels like the best adjusted kid. At minimum he knows how to deal with the cards he has. I think the best portrayal of it is when his father died. He turns his father´s death into his marriage day, his loss in the elections to way to start a new life in possibly a new country. While Shiv, Roman and Ken are scrambling their way to losing once again in an endless cycle, he does move forwards even if just a little....he did win a WIlla and even if she does not love him, she respects him and stands by him and that is more than any of the other Roy kids have in their life.

The standard for "best adjusted kid" on this show is so low that it does not really mean anything. It is like being the smartest kid in the slow class.
Conor and Willa remind me of a couple that’s been in a relationship for 15 years. The fire burning passion isn’t there but they support each other and work as a team. It may not be meant for a romantic movie but it’s something that actually can last.

Connor is more free than any of the other children. The rest of the children are incapable of love, empathy or emotions. As abandoned as Connor has been, he avoids the terrible disease his other siblings have been infected with.
It’s true. I’ve known people like this. The money is involved in everything, and the kids are cold and jaded and selfish. And sad. It seems they’re incapable of joy. I know I’m generalizing but these Roys really are representative of a type. I was never close to such kids because they wouldn’t want to be friends with people outside their circles, I was more like an outside observer, just a scholarship student at a school for the very wealthy.
After this recent episode, seeing Corner standing up to Roman and Willa supporting him goes to show that there is something more than to their relationship than just the money and status. It's not much but for Corner its proof someone believes in him and that means everything to him.

If not for how horribly he treats servants, I'd say it's the best of the siblings since his delusion to be president only hurts himself. Even so, I'm glad he has Willa in his life. They seem to truly support each other and there are no illusions about why they are together. His relationship is the most stable. And even though Willa is with him for the money she really seems to care about him
“That love is strange and peculiar affliction. Its like a virus, so could you please just stay here for a while and maybe you’ll catch it” - Truer words have never been spoken!
I do believe that Connor ended up being most respected by his dad in the end, albeit from him eventually realizing he won’t be his father, Connor ends up going to a dinner with his dads closest friends while the “kids” are still out “playing”. Connor was also the only one who visited his fathers body while all the others acted like children and never even saw it. Roman was closest to realizing this and I think he does realize in the end he will never be his father and is okay with it. But Connor is the strongest out of any of them because he took the most pain out of any of them.
He was polling up to 6% in Alaska... I think it'd be hilarious if Connor's campaign actually gets the 5% national vote needed to pass the share threshold and receive government funding on the next campaign, something the real-life libertarian party has never managed to do so.
I always think it's interesting to contrast his career in politics with Shiv's. Shiv was an effective member of a campaign team, and she did build a lot of that reputation on her own. It also really shows the revolving door of families with money and politics. You can dip in and out.
This is a brilliant explainer, I had even forgotten he had a different mother to the others. Wonderful casting again with Ruck playing him so perfectly.
Another absolutely brilliant video. Thinking about how he is always clinging to the 1% hits hard. I really look forward to your videos, you have an exceptional eye for detail and can get your thoughts across so clearly. I really really hope you do a Roman Roy video 😊
Brilliant, as always, thank you. I posted in another thread that the reason I love Conor so much is because he isn’t needed by the overall story arc or the other characters, and yet he exists. In this context, it was brave of the writers to create him and it was fantastic that HBO bankrolled Alan Rucks salary for what must have been seen as a superfluous character. It’s all the more remarkable that Conor makes the very necessary impact he does in an ensemble this strong. I’d watch a Conor Roy standalone show no problem. I’m going to make my weekly plea for you to have a look at Mr Inbetween (Disney+). We need this show to be given your observational eye.

His weeding shot at the finale of logans death episode was the top moment of Connor, he didnt let his father death ruin his weeding. Beautiful writing.
I hadn't noticed how well written the character of Connor Roy really is. Also the way his father's death just on his wedding day once more, in a way, displayed his father denying him the attention he so desperately craves.
Everyone on this comments are talking of Connor and the series itself, but no one is talking about the script of your videos, are awesome and always on point!
He does such a great job acting as an incredibly out of touch billionaire mired in the Dunning-Kruger effect like you mentioned. Really great character, the family is so dysfunctional and each member of the family all have very realistic and distinct attributes showing said dysfunction.
this video really hits the nail on the head. every little detail in the show is a microcosm of one of many larger themes. in this case, every scene or episode or bit of dialogue involving connor illustrates how forgotten and inferior he is portrayed to be. its so consistently well executed that when i watched the episode of connor's wedding, i was just as surprised as the three younger siblings to realize they had forgotten to tell connor about their logan's passing. i had also forgotten, because connor is written in such a way as to be always on the outside of things, forgotten or ignored, even when he is center stage (in this case, the drama of the three siblings on the phone with logan taking place AT CONNOR'S WEDDING). just shows how masterful the writing of succession is.
"Connor was running for president ? " - Frank Vernon. Say what you want about him, but relatively speaking, Connor and Willa have the "healthiest" relationship of any of the Roy Kids. And his presidential concession speech was epic! Be Warned America, the Conn Heads are coming. lol!
My dream is that Connor gets one seat in the electoral college, the decisive seat. And for just one episode, Succession suddenly turns into Veep and everybody, including his brothers, suddenly need him.
Connor hurts my heart so much. It's nice to see him have a healthier marriage than any of the other Roys, even if it's just a supportive one and not out of true love. Also, because he has been interested in politics at a very young age, he has my vote. We're talking about the future president of the United States of America and the First Lady.
This was brilliant... and tough to watch. I grew up like this. Only with 1000's of times LESS money. As a matter of fact, I think the brilliance of this show IS that it shows a realistic response to neglectful parents
I feel for this dude because he is so pathetic. The writers of this series did a masterful job with Connor, as they did with all the others. I've met several people in my life who were born into very rich families, who went to the best schools, cultured, multi-lingual, but broken in their core because they didn't have the inner force to sculpt their own identity, and thus remained chained to the burden of their family's money and social standing.
Inner force is for poor people who need to lie to themselfs to go to a job they don't like and make the money to survive. Inferiority and lack of identity is subjective. there is not a single wealthy person i know who is not having a blast.
so sad. everyone in their own way, is like this. i'm glad i woke up. i have not felt anything other than joy since the day i woke up. this show was amazing to watch.
i'm glad you did this analysis of Connor as Alan Ruck and the character seem to get ignored most of the time Well done. please can you analyse Tom and Shiv's Marriage or any other relationship on the show.
It’s unfair to say that Con’s mom “abandoned” him and “needed” the “care.” The siblings all clearly allude to Logan being the one who “locked her up” or “sent her away.”
Damn, I didn’t even realize until now that when Logan was dying, they only went looking for shit at first. I guess the audience is trained to not think about Connor either.
I think another aspect of Conner's passivity comes from this idea that if Conner is not outwardly belligerent or argumentative or "difficult" the way his mother is, then he will get that love and attention he so craves. However, this couldn't be further from the truth as I believe that Logan's love language is fighting, anger, and general upset. That is clearly demonstrated in his slight smile when Kendall blames the Cruises sexual misconduct on his father. Logan LOVES the fight, he loves kicking the proverbial dog to see if it will come back (maybe this is indicative of loyalty, and that is what his abuse is really about? Receiving loyalty/devotion from his children that he never really got from his own parents?). It's clearer still in how he pits the Roy-Collingwood children against one another, constantly making them fight over the CEO position AKA Daddy's approval. Additionally, as you point out, Conner is effectively an only child, so not only does he not know how to fight (as he never got to "practice" with siblings closer to him in age) and is therefore not useful as a source of fuel or love for Logan.
As soon as I noticed Will Ferrell was a producer on the show I though Connor’s character was based on Ferrell’s most popular characters. Because of this he sort of became a bigger joke than Greg was intended to be for me

Very well written, edited and....observed. Much needed insight to Connor.
"I'm a plant that grows and rocks and lives off insects that die inside of me"
If not for how horribly he treats servants, I'd say it's the best of the siblings since his delusion to be president only hurts himself. Even so, I'm glad he has Willa in his life. They seem to truly support each other and there are no illusions about why they are together. His relationship is the most stable. And even though Willa is with him for the money she really seems to care about him
the end of this video gave me chills
He's probably the healthiest and happiest out of all 4 considering. When he stands up for himself it's always 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
So well played by Alan Ruck. And a necessary character. The “kids” would be just insufferable assholes without his contrast as a child of Logan.
“That love is strange and peculiar affliction. Its like a virus, so could you please just stay here for a while and maybe you’ll catch it” - Truer words have never been spoken!
By "truer" you actually mean "dumber", right?
@@Jay-JonesI actually think it's quite cute!
V good. As you say, Conor Roy has been interested in politics since a young age.
I'm hoping he gets to 2% in Alaska....
He was polling up to 6% in Alaska... I think it'd be hilarious if Connor's campaign actually gets the 5% national vote needed to pass the share threshold and receive government funding on the next campaign, something the real-life libertarian party has never managed to do so.
“Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age” has become such a meme I can’t even
yes you can
Connor is actually semi likable which is more than I can say about his siblings.
I always think it's interesting to contrast his career in politics with Shiv's. Shiv was an effective member of a campaign team, and she did build a lot of that reputation on her own. It also really shows the revolving door of families with money and politics. You can dip in and out.
Lol both of them are only there because of their last name
This is a brilliant explainer, I had even forgotten he had a different mother to the others. Wonderful casting again with Ruck playing him so perfectly.
This is one of your most interesting video! You're definitely my top 5 analytics channel!
I just started watching Mr. Inbetween. It’s really good!
@@BbGun-lw5vi Woohoo!! I’m delighted you’re liking it!!
Honestly, I put it RIGHT up there with The Sopranos and The Wire for sheer authentic quality and a Gandolfini like quality by Scott Ryan in the central role….and he’s never acted before…AND he writes the whole thing…FFS!!
You’re in for an absolute treat, I envy you watching it for the first time.
I've never noticed it before, but Connor's relationship with his father is a lot like his character's in Ferris Bueller's Day off - dad who is a wealthy, aloof, cold bastard
was just about to write this
His weeding shot at the finale of logans death episode was the top moment of Connor, he didnt let his father death ruin his weeding. Beautiful writing.
The teaser for the next episode got me hyped for Conny to actually get more than 1% and my heart could burst.
Alan Ruck plays this role perfectly. I'm so scared for Sunday
Connor is my favorite character in the show, and all of what youve said is exactly why!
SO glad to see a look at Connor
One of the reasons I love this show is for how it tought me to like and relate to Connor. He’s surprisingly very human.
I hadn't noticed how well written the character of Connor Roy really is. Also the way his father's death just on his wedding day once more, in a way, displayed his father denying him the attention he so desperately craves.
excellent video essay as always! your voice is really soothing yet you hit all the dramatic inflections - perfect background for your content ❤
Connor's arc is just heartbreaking
That “First Pancake” line was brutal.
this video really hits the nail on the head. every little detail in the show is a microcosm of one of many larger themes. in this case, every scene or episode or bit of dialogue involving connor illustrates how forgotten and inferior he is portrayed to be. its so consistently well executed that when i watched the episode of connor's wedding, i was just as surprised as the three younger siblings to realize they had forgotten to tell connor about their logan's passing. i had also forgotten, because connor is written in such a way as to be always on the outside of things, forgotten or ignored, even when he is center stage (in this case, the drama of the three siblings on the phone with logan taking place AT CONNOR'S WEDDING). just shows how masterful the writing of succession is.
Wonderful analysis man. I would just add that:
Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age
Just a beautifully articulated analysis of this tragic character. Well done.
"Connor was running for president ? " - Frank Vernon.
Say what you want about him, but relatively speaking, Connor and Willa have the "healthiest" relationship of any of the Roy Kids. And his presidential concession speech was epic!
Be Warned America, the Conn Heads are coming. lol!
beautifully done and the music towards the end (Clair de Lune) was perfect. Thank you
Connor has turned out to be my favorite character .
My dream is that Connor gets one seat in the electoral college, the decisive seat.
And for just one episode, Succession suddenly turns into Veep and everybody, including his brothers, suddenly need him.
Just adore it. If it's possible, make an essay about Roman🖤
This was beautiful 👌🏻 thank you so much , please do more succession analysis
I didn’t even know Alan Ruck was still alive until you posted this video, but I’m all the happier for it.
Espetacular! Vídeo sensacional, bonito, inteligente e tocante. Obrigada pelas análises!
Connor is my favourite Roy.
He just minds his own business and is just oblivious, but not evil.
I need a video of Roman, he is still the most interesting character to me hope you can find the time to do it
Next week
@@JustanObservation nice 😊
Thank goodness 😊
@@JustanObservation aaaaaaaaah
Conor finally getting some recognition, both you and Aleczandxr making videos on him at the same time. Noice!
After re-watching the series, I love Willa for being by his side because Connor is such a sad character…
The irony of the "1%" is awesome imo
so sad. everyone in their own way, is like this. i'm glad i woke up. i have not felt anything other than joy since the day i woke up. this show was amazing to watch.
Such an excellent job you do breaking down the show. I listen to many of your videos at work. Excellent!
Thanks!
Thanks Juan!
I just love you work man, congrats!
🇧🇷🇧🇷
i'm glad you did this analysis of Connor as Alan Ruck and the character seem to get ignored most of the time Well done. please can you analyse Tom and Shiv's Marriage or any other relationship on the show.
It’s unfair to say that Con’s mom “abandoned” him and “needed” the “care.” The siblings all clearly allude to Logan being the one who “locked her up” or “sent her away.”
Yeah, I just assumed Logan used his power to do something like that.
Thankyou for this amazing in depth analysis of this underrated character!
I love that they actually used the phrase “ConHeads” in the last episode
Beautiful analysis. Thank you.
Loved this analysis! I really enjoy your channel and look forward for your videos everytime
We need an update on Tom and Shiv after the last episode!
Damn, I didn’t even realize until now that when Logan was dying, they only went looking for shit at first. I guess the audience is trained to not think about Connor either.
No i was soooooo angry and screaming at the screen that they didn't go get him!!!
@@dammitmom me too! I kept counting the minutes and was like come ON get Connor!
Connor and Willa do have the most wholesome relationship out of all the siblings, tho.
You have a great voice
If succession is a study Connor is a control subject: all the wealth none of the attention.
Thank you again for these!
As soon as I noticed Will Ferrell was a producer on the show I though Connor’s character was based on Ferrell’s most popular characters. Because of this he sort of became a bigger joke than Greg was intended to be for me
I feel like Conor's character can still be continued, itd be a great story to explore where he goes from where we last saw him
This was a phenomenal video 💯
He's the true ELDEST BOOOY!!
sitting and pretending im not losing my shit waiting for the roman video essay 🧘
You're a remarkable analyst. Kudos
That last line was killer
