    You are doing something you will never regret. My grandfather and then my father taught me and really gave me the impetus to go into the restoration business. I waited too long and never got to spend more than a few weeks each summer with grandpa working with him. I did a few projects with dad but by the time I had opened my business and dad was forced to retire from his office job, my dream of working side by side with him in the shop was killed with him by cancer this past December. I have been listening to this video on my first day back in my shop after spine surgery 2 1/2 weeks after loosing and burying my dad. Now I stare at a shop that has been filled with memories from my lifetime, cherished family heirlooms that I was always going to restore with dad, the former student now the master teaching his teacher. I know dad and grandpa will be here in the shop beside me because they are in my heart and the base of the skills I developed over a lifetime but a big hole will be here as well. I beg of you, cherish the time you have with your dad in the shop. They will be with you for the rest of your life. I look forward to those videos if you choose to share them. God bless you both.

    Wow, I am so happy for you! I became a field tech due to my Dad having been one, and going on rides with him as a kid and I took over before he passed on. Still putting down the miles and making repairs to this day. I hope you have a safe journey throughout and I know your Dad (and I'm sure the rest of your family.. but let's be real - it's obvious you're the apple of your Dad's eye lol) is absolutely dancing a jig that you're going to be the one to take over his life's work! :)

    Trena, do it now, without hesitation! My RN mother decided she would work another year so that my father and she could have more money to enjoy traveling in their new fifth wheel trailer throughout the US and Canada. Before she could retire she was diagnosed with stomach cancer and they never made it out of Michigan again, prior to her passing. There are never any guarantees about our time with loved ones, so grab hold of those moments and cherish every single second you have with family. You will have memories to cherish over your entire lifetime, with no regrets regarding your move to be close to family. God bless. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.

    Trena, it's no place like home. I left my home in 1970 after joining the Marines, I did twenty-three and a half years with them, after retirement 1994 I landed a job with a company in Texas which only lasted five years. Once the contract ran out, I had to find another job, so I tried to go home in 1999, but there were no jobs available so for a short while I did nothing. Then in 2000 I landed a job in Florida, after twenty-one years living and working there, I finally retired completely and after fifty-four years working and being 70 years of age, I moved back to my home in West Virginia. Enjoy home and family!!

    ¡Gracias! Estimada Trenna por compartir momentos personales de tu vida. "Caminante no hay camino, camino se hace al andar" reza una frase muy cierta, y vayas donde vayas deseo que todo te vaya bien, que Dios bendiga a tu familia y a tí, que lo que emprendas sea bendecido y loable. Tu estado de ánimo se siente cuando explicas tu trabajo, que por cierto lo haces con mucha dedicación, tu voz en algún momento se vuelve grave que indica un sentimiento, a diferencia cuando no hay esos momentos de cambios de voz, es lo que pienso. Te deseo lo mejor estés donde estés, saludos y éxitos.

    Having retired at 66, five years ago, I've had non stop requests for my talents in restoring one thing or another. My not having a shop stopped that possibility. Now I've done it... I leased a 2,500 square foot commercial building, threw the doors open the 14th of last month and it's been full of money jobs since. My wood shop takes up part and auto restoration, the rest.     I've been using that style of hinge for twenty years, but normally only for cheap stuff like kitchen cabinets. I've never had them break out, even in hardwood like that. What usually causes problems from what I've seen is somebody kneels down gets something out of the cabinet, then put their hand on the door and use it to push themselves to their feet. Even light pressure will eventually kill the hinge and possibly blow the wood out;

      It could be that or maybe kids hanging on the door... but either way, it will likely continue happening though so the split needs to be strong enough to handle that possibility. What about adding some steel to reinforce the thin routered edge? Like a skinny dado cut over the split plus a thin steel bar and a screw from the outside edge through the entire side holding it together? Then you can put a couple of plugs into the counter-sinked holes...

    I almost came to tears - not to be a weirdo. I worked with my father for years, and now co-own his hardware store with one of my brothers. Hardware is related to your business as one must know a little about a lot, and sometimes I just ask for help from the contractor in the store - a plumber, an electrician, or a general contractor. Your videos have helped me immensely in regard to what I sell and advising about refinishing. They are also, as many have stated, very calming. I am slowly fixing up the house now that the kids are grown up, and trying to do the right and proper repairs or renovations. As I watch your videos and I am re-caning my parents dining room chairs I realize I don't need it to be perfect on the finish. Thanks for showing perfection, and restoration, or just "doing enough." You are a gem.

    Good for you!! I've followed you for many episodes and will continue to do so. Your talent and knowledge constantly amaze me and while I feel a loss from watching you move back home and leaving the great shop you built from scratch, I know that the new will be even better. Safe travels and God Speed.

    AWESOME decision Trena! Working with your family and being around them is the best. Your Daughter also gets the benefits of Grandparents (all care - no responsibility {read: they can hand her back to Mum 😉}). Best wishes to all of you.
