Rumiko Takahashi hated this movie. The director as the top comment who later did Ghost in the Shell literally did the movie himself like the script pretty much himself. Didn't even consult Rumiko Takahashi.
I don't know if Takahashi outright hated Oshii, but i know she didn't like how he warped her work. In my opinion though, my interest in Urusei Yatsura came from Oshii, while i absolutely adore Takahashi and love what she's done in general, Oshii and his team did a really good job at enhancing her material and adding to it with their own original works along the way.
