    Spouses and long term partners (including lgbt) automatically get the same residency. Also, the spouse/partner can add points to your total if they have things like a degree or work experience.

    Well done Jen, on trying to answer the questions people keep sending you, regarding immigrating to New Zealand. Several of the questions you keep being asked, suggest that some people have forgotten that each of us (Yes, them included!) have a role to play in how safe, friendly and inclusive any society and community are (even in New Zealand!). Perhaps they are looking to immigrate to Utopia, rather than New Zealand or to the Southern Hemisphere, lol. Your manner and answers are gracious and honest with each question and answer you give. Well done for stepping into the role as best you can, to answer from your own experience as a one-time New Zealand newbie :-).

      Totally! But also sadly we are not in control of other people's choices, and it's understandable to want to move to a safe place. Thank you for the kind words and support.

      I am in Australia and I drive a Subaru Outback. I have taken it off-road (ish) and out country. We looked into bringing our car across and I nearly had heart failure at how much it was going to cost. Before I even put in for shipping, I would have to have the ENTIRE car professionally cleaned (very expensive $$$$$), then it needs to have special roadworthy inspections on arrival into NZ, and my Australian registration doesn't just transfer over, so I'd need to pay for that too. When we looked at how much it was going to cost we just said "Let's just sell it here and buy another car when we get there."
      Here's the link to the NZ government website on importing your car. It's quite a process, and shipping and other costs is a BIG expense. www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/importing-a-vehicle/

    Thanks for the great answers to questions. What is the humidity like in NZ? I suppose more specifically Auckland. A bit of Googling shows that it averages around 80% all year round. We live in the harsh climate of South Africa, thus we are curious what the changes are like in terms of living everyday in such a highly humid environment.

    • @AThousandWords
      @AThousandWords  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I first saw your comment when we were really suffering with the humidity at over 90% but that was right before cyclone Gita hit and it's much fresher now. Honestly, besides the really humid bits (usually February) we felt like England was more humid, even though the actual humidity percent was lower.
      It is not that bad usually.

    So i have a few questions:
    Is homelessness a thing in New Zealand especially in the larger cities? How is this handled there?
    Are their "bad" neighborhoods or ghettos there? Which parts would you recommend avoiding.
    How often have you been getting earthquakes? Are they as frequent as they say? How do you if a house or apartment is "up to code?"
    For a normal home or apartment rental, what type of utility costs do you pay and how much do they average? Are things like trash/water/sewer included in a rental or are they extra?
    Who are some of the more trusted insurance companies there for car, home or renters insurance?
    Is cell phone service good or bad in your opinion? Do you drop alot of calls outside of the city?
    How's the wifi in your home? What kind if speeds are you getting?
    If you had the power to change one thing..or 2...about New Zealand...what would it be?
    All for now. Thank you. Cheers.

    very informative video! I had to laugh when you spoke about the discretionary income in the US. I know it varies from area to area, but where I live in the US, no one I know has much of that! Just for fun I looked through the current Countdown flyer online to see the prices. Some of the prices of name brands I know seemed to be 2 up to 4 times higher than I pay! Its interesting to see.

    • @AThousandWords
      @AThousandWords  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know, I think it depends. As you get older you gain more experience. I'm not sure. I guess the main thing is to stay current with your industry.

    Great videos ! I have a question. We have two dogs. And we're thinking about moving to NZ. Will they allow them to come with us?

    • @AThousandWords
      @AThousandWords  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no experience of bringing pets with but it is possible, if expensive. You'd have to do a search for information, sorry I can't help with that.

      I can sort-of answer that for you. The short answer to "Can I bring my pet dog/cat with me when I move to NZ?" is 'Yes' ... HOWEVER there are a few conditions on that such as the breed. There are a few breeds of dogs and cats that are NOT allowed into NZ. Here is the link to the NZ government's website about bringing your pet to NZ with you. www.mpi.govt.nz/importing/live-animals/pets/
      I found it quite helpful. (We're considering moving to NZ and will be bringing our 3 cats with us)
      Is it expensive? Yes. (It will cost us approximately $1000 per cat to take them from Sydney to Wellington)
      Some friends of my family recently moved from Sydney to the UK and took their dogs with them. They recommended pet transporters JetPets to us, so I started by getting a quote from them. A pet transporter will generally cover most, if not all, expenses and will either take care of or help you with any paperwork you need to have in order to bring your pet with you.
      Hope that helps. Good luck. :)

    Hi, I have seen Q&A videos so far, I was wondering if you answer any question regarding bank loans for house or car. I would like to know about loans. Is the bank help immigrants in buying a house or car? if you have any experience it would help a lot. thanks

    • @AThousandWords
      @AThousandWords  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the length of your visa and if you have any outstanding loans elsewhere, you'd have to check with your bank.

    How much money do you need to have before coming to New Zealand not including immigration fees? Thanks

    • @AThousandWords

      There's no one answer as everyone's needs and lifestyle are different. The more the better though :)

      It will cost a lot to ship your furniture here, but it would cost more to replace it. I'd bring everything you own.
