Don't sing the praises too early. We're talking about NetEase here, the maybe most aggressive corporation in the world when it comes to microtransactions. They are the ones who developed the pricing model for Diablo Immortal for example. I'd be carefull and see if the game is still free of extreme levels of microtransactions in a year or two before praising it in that regard.
Let’s make a list: - good character designs. (33 @ launch) - great diversity (of characters, style, combat) - complete game, minimal bugs. - Fast server tick speed, Low ping. - Friendly monetization, No FOMO battle pass. - Free2Play. - and yes, good IP Wow. Amazing what is possible when the devs care about their game
It's ironic when OW loyalists say that Marvel Rivals is a rip off when OW heavily borrowed elements from TF2 and their community never gave a single fuck.
I think this game is much closer to OW than Team Fortress... Little visual difference in UI and gameplay feel, etc, game modes, time of match Not hating, just using my eye balls. Like, if this was called Overwatch: Marvel Rivals, I would not have been surprised
One thing that has stood out to me with Rivals is how much time you spend actually playing the game. Matchmaking is practically instant, and can be started as soon as a round ends. It feels completely different than a game like COD where every 5 minute round is separated by 3 minutes of un-skippable cinematics/loading screens/matchmaking.
sadly this used to be the strong point of overwatch. hit play, boom, youre walking around on the map waiting till everyone is ready and game starts. then they kept self sabotaging to the point where you either had to play "boring" heroes or wait 20 minutes for a 5 minute round.
It's funny how many people don't know that Black Widow not only existed well before Widow Maker was even concepted, but her name is literally based on a spider called the Black Widow Spider, which is extremely deadly
Widowmaker always reminded me of Black Widow and Cammy White being put together. Also I remember reading the reasoning for her blue skin and iirc, it was incredibly stupid beyond comprehension.

If two games are truly equal in quality, and one is a ripoff of the other, people will generally side with and root for the original. That's not the case when the copy is better(sometimes significantly better) than the original though. Vampire Survivors was not the first game of its genre, yet it popularized it. League of Legends was not the first MOBA, but is now arguably the most popular MOBA.
Ugh, just like what happened to palworld. People keep sticking to Pokemon without giving palworld a try. Pokemon has been the same thing over and over again with not much noticeable innovation gameplaywise. The release and success of palworld would hopefully push them to at least try to implement something big. The same can be said for Overwatch. Competition is good people!!
@@MythicalCat to be fair, palworld had some great designs and animations that put game freak to shame (which i know isnt that hard..) so to me it was a bad choice to straight up steal some pokemon designs and recolor them. taking inspiration is great but lines become blurry if you dont just look at an idea but drag and drop a character from one game into another. while some fan boys would defend their billion dollar company thats milking them to their death IMO the entire palworld situation would have been way less of a problem if they didnt steal some assets for no reason

No. It is completely warranted. If you took out the marvel skins and slapped them on the models in the overwatch game, it would be identical. It is frankly embarrassing how close this is to an exact UI and gameplay clone to OW
@@orc001 that is like saying every shooter is a clone honestly that is silly of course there are similar elements but there are only like 2 characters that are almost one to one the same and then the map design and game play have different elements that are not in overwatch so it cant be exact i wonder if you could shoot out a wall as a sniper to creat a sight line to point to get some easy kills. hmnmm no yeah i didnt think so but using game modes is not that big of deal because they all came from tf2 if we are being honest. It's like GamesRadar lives in a parallel mirrored universe: every thing they praise turns to ish and what they say it's gonna fail - massive success: Concord - "Great visuals, game has a bright future ahead" - game shuts down in a week. Marvel Rivals - "This game has no personality, just a blatant copy of Overwatch. This will fail and no one will play it on release" - 200-500k players at all times.

10:05 I've been playing since Launch and the game has only crashed for me once. AND (fun fact) It gave me the option to join right back into the game I was in the middle of. Idk how that was possible, but it did and we won. Edit: Upon further research, I found out that when something happens that causes you to leave the game (like the game crashing), it doesn't remove you immediately. Instead it temporarily disconnects you for a certain amount of time. This allows player to be able to join the game again when there's an error. I genuinely love the fact that they have this failsafe in place. The amount of times I've been punished in games like Overwatch due to the game either crashing or disconnecting is too many to count, so the fact the Marvel Rivals added a mechanic like this even though their servers run much better genuinely shows the thought and care they put into making this game as enjoyable as possible.
I love that aspect of the game, I just wish that once you crashed it rejoins you to the party you were in. My husband has crashed a few times, and The few time we didn't know he hadn't rejoined the group, so we had to back out of the match (which is like a penelty) in order to get him back in the group.

The character designs in marvel rivals go insanely hard and(this is very very important) are NOT the mcu designs that everyone is very sick of by now. Marvel Movies and Marvel comics have very different designs and vibes to the characters and i think even people with little to no knowledge of the characters can tell. It certainly doesn't hurt that the original designs here are super cool
Hell I’m not sick of them but the comic and new looks is refreshing. They even have skins you can earn or buy (however you want to get it) that have their MCU designs.
I mean is Moba oversaturated? After WoW came out came all the WoW killers. After LoL came out (also not the first of it's kind) then came all the clones. Finally Overwatch came out (Hello TF2) and then you had likewise all the copies filling the market and mostly failing.
There isn't much to games in mobas or hero shooters. All of you have is the gameplay and ranked ladder climbing. If you don't enjoy those things then it loses its flavor really quickly. Brain dead Overwatch simps on Twitter saying Rivals is only popular because of the Marvel IP when other other games with the IP haven’t done so well. They can’t accept that Rivals is good competition, if not better than Overwatch.
yup if ip alone is enough then suicide squad and marvel avenger would see the same number. These people did not realize that we have plenty of bad video game adaptation like superman64
It's not the only reason, but it is a huge draw for the game. I don't think the team would have been able to produce the high quality characters they did for Rivals, without the inspiration of the Marvel IP.
I mean it literally is Marvel finally cashing in on the game genre with their inherited ips and characters where Overwatch had to design and write their own in tribute to Marvel and comics in general.

What I find hilariously ironic is that Blizzards lowest reviewed game is Diablo Immortal, a game they didn’t even develop. It was developed by Net Ease. The fact that Net Ease is still ruining AB whether as a partner or a rival is funny.
As a longtime overwatch player, i have completely dropped it since Rivals came out. In Rivals, DPS characters deal damage an kill, Supports heal, Tanks tank and you get rewarded for being proactive. Overwatch rewards you for being reactive, not making plays, all characters have insane kill potential, the supports are extremly broken, the tanks are immortal raid bosses and the dps right now suck, unless you're playing Widowmaker. And the balance team havent got a clue, they just buffed Sojourn to get one shots again, as well as Orisa, a tank that rewards reactive play and has a flawed design. The metas are rarely good for the game, the content has been lackluster and the dev team hasnt got a clue. Im only going back when they introduce the 6v6 test.
@@thomas-stilinski8149 characters like mantis and loki are pretty well designed imo, because they can both do lots of damage while fulfilling their roles as healers at the same time. I played Overwatch nonstop when it released. It was one of my favorite games ever at the time. I would still play it today, but it takes 14 minutes to get into a match. Marvel Rivals loads me into a match in seconds and is as fun, if not more fun, then Overwatch.
The Early days of Overwatch was so much fun. Innocent, frustrating, chaotic fun. No one really knew what they hell we were doing. Just getting pissed at 6 Torbs or 6 Bastions and everyone would freak out. The good ole days. Lol
It's funny coming from Blizzard as besides the obvious (Marvel's IP has been around way longer), Blizzard themselves started via copying Warhammer's IP but changing it up enough to not be copyright infringement. Hell, most of their games just stole things that worked from other games to try and create something better. (Command and Conquer, Everquest, Anarchy Online, all games that WoW, Warcraft and Starcraft stole from basically. Even Diablo, Titan Quest came before it. Even Overwatch, the game he's complaining they're copying. Super Monday Night Combat came out before it)
Heck, Marvel immediately puts out a Marvel Rivals tie-in comic book series which comes out weekly in Marvel Unlimited so you get your Lore intake pretty nicely. I figure if the game kept its momentum, i can see they will continue the tie-in comics further down the line.
Took you long? (No offence, just joke). But seriously they even demand ,, journalist mode" which plays the game for them (Ubislop is trying to develop that). It's not about games anymore for them
Lol dude... they haven't been actual gamers since the 80s/90s. Only difference is now we can communicate over the internet and confirm with eachother that game journalists are just shills.
They are jactivists, basically activists posing as journalists, they say what their bosses and their colleagues expect em to say.I coudnt give a single shit about their opinions, all hail youtubers.
But i thought that the hero shooter genre is dead! Concord devs told us, after their product got removed from everywhere 5 days after release, right after one of the devs called us all "talentless hacks" and all the -ists and -phobes in the book. Which is it? Is the genre dead or not?!
When blizzard announced that they were going to scrap the PvE story mode to get overwatch 2 out on time, they alienated a significant portion of their fans. Including me. I loved overwatch because I loved the characters. Before I played the game, I watched the animated shorts multiple times. I read the comics. Archives was my favorite season. But then, if the people writing and designing the characters don't care about them anymore, why should I? Also, the change from 6v6 to 5v5 made it so I just straight up couldn't play the game the way I was used to playing. But for marvel rivals, these are characters I already know. Characters that exist beyond the scope of the game. Even the characters I've never heard of before existed already, and I can look into it. Both jeff and luna have appeared in the comics. Luna even has songs you can listen to. My emotional investment to the characters doesn't need to be married to the game. Which means I can have a healthier relation to the game. For overwatch, since the game was the primary way to engage with the characters, I would play it for like 5 hours a day, sometimes more. With marvel rivals I stop when I'm satisfied. A handful of games and I'm good.
Fun Fact: They have Sally Amaki that voices Kiriko in Overwatch 2 that voices Peni Parker in Marvel Rivals. Fred Tatasciore that Voices soldier 76, who also voices HULK.

Me and my friends stayed up til like 2am which we havent done in awhile. This game fr has great potential and I hope they make other big developers change their ways from being greedy for money and actually focus on making the player base happy.
As a blizzard shill/fanboy/stan whatever tou wanna call me. Most of these arguements for why one is better than the other just throws me the wrong way. I see a lot of people bring up open queue like overwatch doesnt have it. We bring up similarities of heroes or abilites (on both ends) as we are lart of the same genre so obviously thinfs will be used as inspiration. What i cant wrap my head around is how netease can just go under the radar and only blizzard comlany get hate for evil practices. When netease is right there with them. Not saying either company is better than one another's bc theyre both bad and evil companies. But to say OW died long ago is so wrong when up until marvel came out it (OW) was on a positive player retention and not to mention MR took some of not only ow players but many other hero shooter or other genres player bases. Also the only fair complaint wirh overwatch in my eyes as a blanket statment is the PvE. But lets be honest it was WAY to ambitious infinite replayablity wirh huge hero talent trees for a libe service game that gegs new heroes every other season. It wouldbe taken an ungodly amount of time and i didnt even see it coming out until ow properly saw its end as a pvp shooter. Another topic that is brought up a lot between the 2 is queue times and the game balance. Overwatch DOES have longer queue times absolutely no argument but we are gonna act like 5-10 minutes is all that bad when we play mmos with FAR longer. Now lets talk balance. Wait marvels isnt so ita not even a fair topic. But marvels is "balanced" around chaotic fun which without a doubt it is indeed fun. Now overwatch is balanced around competitive play due to it being a competitive hero shooter who wouldve though, and if you guys havent noticed counterwatch is a thing. Which signifies that most heroes are equal to each other in terms of power. If there was a balance issue and one hero was far betted than the rest counterwatch really wouldnt hold up. Lets talk monetization sure blizzard has some lretty questionable currency prices especially when we talk prisms but who even goes and buys those anyways ive never met or seen someone even do that. Prices of skins are basically identicsl amongst the two games we can eben look at the new 24$ hulk bundle for this. But what OW does that marvel does not (correct me if im wrong here) you can go and buy singular select skins, sprays, highlight intros, etc. Mow battle passes id say the system inplace for overwatch is better tou dont have to pick and choose items and the time to complete the bp be inflated due to grabbing items when you have the bp currency, instead you level up and boom get the item at X lvl. Now the battlepass being completable as long as if it was bought is a big W for sure. Also the f2p aspects of both games where marvel does allow the conversion of currency which is anlther big W they dont give you an infinite amount of currency to buy skins i believe i read somewhere its about 2 legendady skins? (Correct me if im wrong) where overwaych gives 600 paid currency every season for free with no expense to the player at all. At the end of the day for me i want both games to be nutured and to see them battle it out and improve upon the genre not havs overwatch die then marvel take over and go down the same path since they have no competitors. I just cant wrap my head around this "your games dead" type mentality when basically every hero shooter (poor concord though) has a veey alive fanbase no matter how large or small theyve just fallenc from the radar. Like i love peoppe bring tf2 and paladins but most dont even mention deadlock.
I think the 3rd person perspective really helps the game stand out and while i wish the lighting was a little darker it definitely has a good *feel* to it.
Blizzard has been utterly dethroned on all fronts because they chose to make games not in the best interest of gamers so: why play WoW when i can play Final Fantasy? why play Diablo when i can play Path of Exile 1/2? why play Overwatch 1/2 when i can play Marvel Rivals?
I'm surprised people ever thought the genre was oversaturated. Overwatch the monetization update (Overwatch 2) left a huge void in the genre. I can't be the only one who quit OW and was waiting for Rivals to release.
I agree. As an og overwatch player I just can’t have fun in the game anymore. It’s not fun, 5v5 sucks because the was created for 2 tanks, it’s just such a bad game now that it feels like a chore to play
Isn’t it baffling? Risking the closure of your studio or layoffs because your agenda game didn’t do well. I hope they do at this point so when that failure does happen they hopefully leave the medium entirely in shame.
Its insane just how disconnected from reality game devs are these days. Rivals is successful because its just dumb fun, yeah its not balanced but it has everything your looking for and fails at very few things
Fr balance just equals "This games gonna be awful in 3 years because the characters you loved are gonna get tweaked and altered so much you won't recognize them" like seriously can we just let dumb fun exist and only "balance" if something's doing too wildly good like if Magik just dominated every lobby cuz she two taps everyone and is immortal them just tone that down a pinch and move on stop trying to put everything on the same playing field and just make them fun
I hope they don’t over balance the game. Just give some of the low tiers some love. Iron man and storm need help as well as Wolverine. Everyone else really seems totally fine
I'd say it's pretty balanced, every character survives some other character but dies to others. As an example Venom with the team up bonus still gets his symbiussy blown out by iron fists and might survive but the black widow on vanguard will pop his skull. Balance in this game is created by team comp
Marvel Rivals gives me the same feelings back then when capcom's Marvel vs Capcom came out, the art was freaking amazing with sexy female designs and badass dudes
Saying a decades old Marvel is blatantly copying OW character design is crazy. "Man, designing games to he FUN. I wish I'd have thought of that crazy concept!"
I really appreciate this video as someone who has still actively played overwatch. I really do wish the game was better, and I hope that they actually make their game better because of marvel rivals. Thanks for the great video 🔥
I was a beta OW +4k player. I spent YEARS on that game and I don't touch it anymore because of how poorly Blizzard treated that IP. The hero shooter genre has been a free market for almost a decade now and Marvel Rivals is actually the first IP that fills that void. The edge that OW had over other hero shooters was the highly competitive aspect and mechanical skill. It was considered the hardest FPS game at the time because of how much movement you had in it, which balanced the high impact dps heroes that relied on high precision shots. Since then they've INCREASED the hitboxes to lower the skill ceiling, basically telling all those players who at this point spent months in aim trainers to go take a piss, because their competitive game "shouldn't be soo competitive". They've fully leaned into the E-girls with all the latest cosmetics and continue to deliver overreaching DEI that no one asked for. The irony of making DEI heroes while selling "sexy mercy skins" is something I couldn't have made up. Basically: Blizzard is completely transparent that they couldn't give a F about the players or real inclusivity as long as they get to virtue signal and get checks. Guess why OG players hate them? Marvel took all the lessons to heart from OW1: - Well designed heroes - Making the heroes kits interesting and fast paced - Extremely fun maps with completely different play styles - A battle pass that actually rewards you for playing - Missions that reward playing - Access to cosmetics that look awesome for free I'm not saying the game is perfect. There's crashes, performance issues and pretty glaring balancing issues BUT IT'S FUN. They've even implemented the whole team-up mechanic which makes them able to balance certain matchups. If they don't screw up royally in the near future, Marvel rivals will dominate the hero shooter market for sure. Overwatch is done for while Deadlock and Valorant has niche places. I've spent 26 hours already and I havn't had this much fun in a long time! Feels like Helldivers hero shooter
As someone who played Overwatch since it's been released, I honestly prefer Rivals now. The great thing about it is that because each character is overpowered in their own right if played correctly, no one is, and that inadvertently balances things out on its own. Everyone has the ability to defend themselves, everyone has the ability to contribute to the team, and every character has their own unique playstyle. The only thing I'm anxious about is that Netease doesn't have an amazing reputation and is more well known for creating mobile slop, so I'm appreciative but remaining cautious. Aka. look at Diablo Immortal. They have a habit of completely imploding themselves and I'm surprised people aren't talking about it.
"Cracked the code that western devs struggle with " "Cracked the code..." "...code..." Its not that hard, stop trying to force ugly characters down our throats. Rivals is just Overwatch's untapped potential left on the road, and it shows how quickly that vacuum was filled. Overwatch developed in a direction many disagreed with, and people were just waiting for real competition to take its place. Let’s be honest, Paladins *could have had a chance, but too much went wrong on their end. The problem isn’t the genre - it’s how they executed it. (Also the TL;DR of Concord) ...Also, laying off Overwatch's lore team wasn’t their smartest move either.
Bro, saying this game's characters look "Too similar to OW" is so dumb. Like, Marvel has been a thing and these characters have looked like this since before OW was even thought up into existence.
The whole comparison to Overwatch heroes/abilities is actually kinda funny, sure some abilities are similar, but I found more similarities between DoTA 2 abilities if anything. Psylockes ult is basically Juggernauts, Groot is essentially Treant Protector, Iron Fist Marci, Wolverine Ursa etc. And to me this is one of the best things about the game, for the hero abilities it takes inspiration from multiple hero designs across multiple franchises, and takes the best of them for its own heroes with a twist. Having Starlord be able to fly whilst using “Tactical Visor” is a great change, it means you have to keep behind cover and keep your eyes on the sky, whilst playing as him means you aren’t locked to just taking out other aerial heroes or exposed ground heroes, you can take out anyone. The game has great character models, great gameplay, and the destructible environments are so satisfying. Nothing beats getting a quad kill with Scarlet Witches ultimate and completely atomising a whole building in the process. The verticality and true aerial heroes is also a great change, it’s nice having aerial based heroes that don’t *have* to keep landing every 5 seconds to refuel, Blizzard absolutely butchered Pharah with that change imo - why have an aerial hero if they can’t be truly aerial?
The problem is companies like Bioware, Ubisoft, Blizzard and even Rock Star all believe no one could touch them and everyone would buy their games no matter what because of who they think they are. Well now they are getting a rude awakening because now due to their laziness and attitude towards their customers they are losing money and hopefully some if not all will either shut down or be bought out showing the rest of the companies that you are nothing with out your customers and this will make the rest change or at least open things up for up and comers in the industry
with the horrible balance patching and no PVE, overwatch is definitely in a bad spot now that rivals is out with endless lore and a wide variety of characters to learn. there is a real chance blizzard loses this fight which they honestly deserve to lose
Its the marketing. When it went free on ps plus, it started getting a LOT of love, even ppl aaying they would ha e happily paid for it. I bought the ultimatw edition 10 hours in and it was AMAZING
Nobody is commenting or accounting for Concord’s ugly character design because it’s part of the culture war. The main gaming media and Firewalk _wanted_ ugly characters because _they are_ Concord’s ugly characters.
I think they're saying "Marvel's Rivals", shortening the games name to just "Rivals" and saying it was made In collaboration with Marvel thus the game is "Marvel's Rivals"
I’m shocked that sexy and bad ass sales! That people enjoy the attractive and appealing. If only there was a way to have known this sooner… Oh wait, human history already confirmed this shit! I guess consumer complacency has finally worn off to the point of where people are done with inauthentic unappealing, self obsessed, agendas, and attention seeking! And once again, this has nothing to do with a oversaturation or hero, shooter fatigue . We all know that Marvel’s is just an extension of overwatch. That said , it’s fair Play with free to play. A complete product with content. And the overwhelming main attribute drawing consumers is the cool and sexy and bad ass characters.
It is kinda funny tho that people seem shocked that marvel rivals is doing so well I don't need a self insert of myself In the game I don't need things to be "inclusive" I wanna be a 10ft tall gamma irradiated Goliath that's strong enough to level a building or a tiny shark with legs that can swim through walls It's not supposed to be real it's supposed to be fun and that's exactly what marvel rivals is
You blame the ”agendas and attention seeking” when you just mean you don’t like seeing inclusivity of trans or any other group that you view as “woke”. There are plenty of games that fit your view of this “agenda” that have been successful.
@NormalzPersons And there's something wrong with that? Lmao you all forcing your agenda ironically, we don't prefer that so stop forcing and gtfo you're killing our enjoyment go back to your little community and stop inserting yourself lmao
As a player that played Overwatch at a month after launch and has over 2k hours played. Overwatch 2 was the death of Overwatch 1 with a bunch of poor choices. Changing staple character abilities, forcing roles (Locking players to play only as the role they picked), changing it from 6v6 to 5v5. Overwatch 2 couldn't hold me at all and so I only played Overwatch 1. And the moment they made the choice to shut down Overwatch 1 to try and force those players over to part 2 they lost me fully. Marvels has the feel Overwatch 1 had back in the days.
i never got to play overwatch 1, but ive been on marvel rivals a lot since launch. switched back to overwatch last night and god its rough that you lock in roles. i might try open queue for once but hell...our tank did their best but said they couldnt play dva when we needed the dive for an enemy widow. i wished i could swapped to it myself. the freedom is so good.
The market is oversaturated but the previous biggest game in the genre Overwatch fell off hard and there's space for a game that's actually good to take over.
Marvel Rivals closed beta was also up at that time and did awesome numbers. Keyword is "closed beta". Despite being that it was doing open beta numbers. Concord however had an open beta with 2000 peak and launch with only 600. Clearly the AAA numbers. \s
I am 8 years OW veteran still playing even today. Right now, I just want OW2 daily done ASAP so I can play Rivals more. Once I'm done with battlepass, I don't play till next season.. just like all other seasons. It's more like FOMO at this point. I still like OW2, but honestly Rivals are just so much more fun at the moment.
Overwatch was fun it's just they got to obsessed with trying to do metas and be competitive and lost the plot on why people enjoyed it the 6 dwarfs with turrets or people being silly making dumb comps that's what made the game fun then they tried to control the meta and the games been downhill since they stopped prioritizing fun and started prioritizing competitiveness and it genuinely sapped the fun out of it
OW was never overrated, it just didnt capitalize on the excitement they had and have only ever hurt the characters that people fell in love with Take my own experience for example. I loved Mercy as a character but the devs changed her so many times to make things "balanced" when they never bothered to actually figure out why people like me wanted to play her to begin with they just nerfed her until people like me decided to quit the game. I stopped playing OW2 since season 3 and wont be back till they figure out why people like Mercy (other than Rule34) Blizzard has always been slow with the development of Overwatch and have spent YEARS developing the games balance for competitive scenes and now with OWL gone and that entire branch of the company laid off they have nothing to show for it except a bored and upset community.
@zacharyjackson1829 Agreed game was good the devs just kinda ignored fun and prioritized tryna make everything as even as possible which ruined a lot of characters Take Mauga probably one of the most hated characters ever added he was a blast in the beta and most people agreed he was fun and fine as he was maybe a slight buff to survivability but blizzard didn't like that they wanted consistent so what they did instead was add armor, damage, remove the dual fire fire rate bonus, and cranked everything up which broke him All he needed to be fun and effective was a tiny bit more survivability instead blizzard wanted to balance him like the rest and make him constantly hard to kill instead of the extremes he had before which ruined his character at it's core and now we just have immortal mauga because they just had to give him that armor for the sake of balance and they refuse to un do the change no matter how bad it is
@@sebastianrodriguez8992fr like people complained about balance issues in the past but yk what I prefer having balance issues than issues having fun & i had way more fun back then with og hog, og bastion, and og mercy in the game than i do now & it’s so sad to think about everything was so goofy & fun back then but everyone and the game is so miserable man
Overwatch, Paladins, Valorant, Gigantic, Splatoon, the Finals, Battleborn, Rainbow Six, Knockout City, and the list goes on. yeah they aren't all "hero shooters" but that honestly is such a loose term it doesnt belong as an actual genre name.
You are completely wrong, heroe shooters are not simply shooters with "heroes" as it would mean that a game like BF2042 is also a heroe shooter, which is NOT. Heroe shooters are refered to team based/quick paced games with stablished characters that fulfill a certain role for the team, mostly being 5v5 or 6v6 games. There are certain established rules that differentiate heroe shooters from other shooters just as Battle Royale have specific rules that set them apart from Extraction shooters even when they are similar too. From all the games you mentioned, OW is the only true heroe shooter that is in the market since many years ago. Paladins is in life support, only people playing it are the dedicated players that have stayed with it for years, it does not compete in any way in the market. Valorant, Gigantic, The Finals and Rainbow Six are NOT heroe shooters, the only similarity to the genre is that they have characters with skills, but that's it, both Valorant and RS are tactical shooters, they have more in common to CS than any proper heroe shooter and as such gather to completely different audiences, The Finals is a BR that, one, gathers to completely different audiences again, and two, is in a rough spot too, almost like in life support for what I remember, Gigantic, is 3rd person MOBA, that again is in life support too, almost dead, even if it wasn't it would compete more with Smite than with OW or Rivals. Splatoon... *Where did you took that it's a heroe shooter???* Like... It has literally zero relation with the genre, it doesn't even have "heroes" in any way, seriously what?? Knockout city... I don't even know what is that, and as a person that likes heroe shooters more than any other variation of the shooter genre, that already tells me everything to know about that game... Is probably dead or in a worse situation than Gigantic. And Battleborn... Is there any need to mention it? Is dead, like literally, servers closed and everything, the game doesn't exist aside from a fan project that is trying to recreate the campaign mode or something but thats it. Every single game you listed has nothing to do with heroe shooters (or are dead/almost dead), the "oversaturation of the genre" is just a fallacy.
@@dbio305 to be fair that's only the Steam count, majority of OW players play from battlenet or consoles. That and TF2 player count is mostly inflated with idlebots, the real player base is most probably in the same numbers as OW... Which is still a lot taking into account the longevity of the game.
I don't really even think Concord visuals look bad. Honestly, I think the reason Concord might have failed is... I never even heard of Concord until people started comparing it to Rivals while talking about its flop. Seems like a marketing failure. Not really a defense of Concord or a burn against Rivals, I love Rivals so far and never played Concord. I just think marketing, reach and word-of-mouth is kind of the first step and that is the first big difference I can sense between these two games.
I dont think most people even heard about concord until youtubers and social media started talking shit about it. The first time I ever heard about it was a video making fun of how dogshit it is.
Gotta love how devs of Overwatch are effing sobbing right now when competitors come in doing a better job with their jobs then Overwatch wish they could accomplish. Funnily enough though, maybe if Overwatch hadn’t cancelled their pve story mode, they most likely would’ve still had a more loyal fanbase. They are quite literally facing the karma of their piss poor decision in ruining a used to be good game to prioritize greed.

Rivals has opening cinematics but you can skip those
sadly this used to be the strong point of overwatch. hit play, boom, youre walking around on the map waiting till everyone is ready and game starts.
then they kept self sabotaging to the point where you either had to play "boring" heroes or wait 20 minutes for a 5 minute round.

Super Monday Night Combat came out before it)
I appreciate the Shirou quote
Best thing about Marvel Rivals is “the lore” is basically its entire world and universe of Marvel had so much of the work done.
Heck, Marvel immediately puts out a Marvel Rivals tie-in comic book series which comes out weekly in Marvel Unlimited so you get your Lore intake pretty nicely.
I figure if the game kept its momentum, i can see they will continue the tie-in comics further down the line.

But i thought that the hero shooter genre is dead! Concord devs told us, after their product got removed from everywhere 5 days after release, right after one of the devs called us all "talentless hacks" and all the -ists and -phobes in the book. Which is it? Is the genre dead or not?!
Now be fair. Right after the "nicer" devs all started calling us ists and phobes. At least according to the article.
Is Marvel Rivals really a hero shooter tho, a good chunk of the character are straight up melee characters.
@@gangofheroes bro that is some of the weakest cope i have ever seen
@gangofheroes hero shooters have melee characters... so call of duty isn't a shooter because they have melee and throwable weapons?

Comparing Rivals to Concord is whole another level of delusional.

As an OG Overwatch player, Rivals is the game I've been missing. Role queue would ruin it the same way it's ruined Overwatch, I don't want a competitive game I just want to drop in and drop out whenever I feel like playing, and Marvel is the perfect backdrop for a hero shooter. A DC Rivals would be cool too.
fr- these companies are trying to chase the ghost of esports by obeying every complaint of the competitive players, without realizing that the vast majority of players are silent casuals who just want to have fun, no one’s cares about balance or role queues or any of that garbage, we just want fun.
Why not do a crossover and add DC character later on as dlc :)
OW comp is where souls go to die, but quick play is fine. If you think role queue ruined OW you should try playing without it; it’s fucking awful.
@@furrygecko definitely. Overwatch was fun on launch but I can't imagine playing it as much as I did in the state it was in back then. Starting a match with 4 people instapicking DPS, 5 Winstons with 1 Lucio, Mercy rezzing 3, 4, 5 people, no one picking tank... yeah chaos is fun but not for very long.
@@furrygeckoOW died for me the moment they went 5 v 5. I feel like role queue was better with 6v6. After playing Marvel Rivals, I accepted the fact that there's no reason to go back to OW.
Journalists constantly gaslight developers by blaming the genre or the audience any time a game fails, then the devs learn nothing and end up repeating their errors. Marvel's Avengers and Concord failed at making appealing and attractive characters, something which Overwatch excelled at until Rivals came along and beat them at it too. Beyond that, Rivals is just a fun game while the other 3 were either poorly managed (Overwatch), had boring gameplay loops (Avengers), or were absolute trash on every front (Concord)
Marvel’s Avengers failed though because CD abandoned the product. If they listened to feedback and became inspired, who knows - maybe today we could be fighting beasts in the Savage Lands as Cyclops or Silver Surfer
11:45 yoooooo, if Rivals actually can out do Overwatch and ends up becoming a competitive game you know who actually has money to keep a MLG league going for awhile? Marvel… also Disney

People tend to forget that NetEast was one of the major development front and maintenance pipeline behind OG Overwatch, until blizzard went stupid and cut tide to them and made Overwatch 2 that not only flopped, but also heavily cut out part of the promised contents, which was supposed to be delivered by NetEast..
NetEast was responsible OG Overwatch only in China, but this could also be explained why Rivals have similarities to OV. As ex OV player and now Rivals, im really enjoying it!

Honestly had low expectations when playing the game for the first time because a lot of games just have not been hitting the same as before. Was honestly surprised!
It also makes people want to buy skins more because you can actually see them while playing.
You can change lighting in settings
There’s also so much more character building with the animations

Tbh I prefer games that aren't balanced. It's more fun that way. So much more chaotic
PUUUUUUUURE CHAOOOOOS
I'd say it's pretty balanced, every character survives some other character but dies to others. As an example Venom with the team up bonus still gets his symbiussy blown out by iron fists and might survive but the black widow on vanguard will pop his skull. Balance in this game is created by team comp

Marvel took all the lessons to heart from OW1:
- Well designed heroes
- Making the heroes kits interesting and fast paced
- Extremely fun maps with completely different play styles
- A battle pass that actually rewards you for playing
- Missions that reward playing
- Access to cosmetics that look awesome for free
I'm not saying the game is perfect.
I love the 3rd person perspective and the destroctable environments

I’m sure it’s fun but it’s frustrating being the other healer knowing nobody but Groot is gonna get healed 😂
I killed Rocket on Groot today, was the first time I managed to see em together.
Not only is it good, it runs better on my potato PC then most other games. So it's well coded too. The whole thing is very polished.

Its not that hard, stop trying to force ugly characters down our throats. And invest some time in not letting the cast have a gray mechanics palette. Marvel rivals isn't a great game. Once they fix the progression this game will legit takeover overwatch
(Also the TL;DR of Concord)
...Also, laying off Overwatch's lore team wasn’t their smartest move either.
You don't need to humiliate a failure, they already did themselves.
And game reviewers wonder why people stopped taking them seriously

If you think the characters having ass is what is making this game's success you have suffered severe fall damage indeed.

Real sadly
Truth I’m getting that feeling over when I played apex for the first time or ow1
i never got to play overwatch 1, but ive been on marvel rivals a lot since launch. switched back to overwatch last night and god its rough that you lock in roles. i might try open queue for once but hell...our tank did their best but said they couldnt play dva when we needed the dive for an enemy widow. i wished i could swapped to it myself. the freedom is so good.
The market is oversaturated but the previous biggest game in the genre Overwatch fell off hard and there's space for a game that's actually good to take over.

I still like OW2, but honestly Rivals are just so much more fun at the moment.
Ive been playing this like crazy and having a great time. Hot take: I think Overwatch is over rated and really not that fun
Overwatch was fun it's just they got to obsessed with trying to do metas and be competitive and lost the plot on why people enjoyed it the 6 dwarfs with turrets or people being silly making dumb comps that's what made the game fun then they tried to control the meta and the games been downhill since they stopped prioritizing fun and started prioritizing competitiveness and it genuinely sapped the fun out of it
OW was never overrated, it just didnt capitalize on the excitement they had and have only ever hurt the characters that people fell in love with
Take my own experience for example. I loved Mercy as a character but the devs changed her so many times to make things "balanced" when they never bothered to actually figure out why people like me wanted to play her to begin with they just nerfed her until people like me decided to quit the game. I stopped playing OW2 since season 3 and wont be back till they figure out why people like Mercy (other than Rule34)
Blizzard has always been slow with the development of Overwatch and have spent YEARS developing the games balance for competitive scenes and now with OWL gone and that entire branch of the company laid off they have nothing to show for it except a bored and upset community.
@zacharyjackson1829 Agreed game was good the devs just kinda ignored fun and prioritized tryna make everything as even as possible which ruined a lot of characters
Take Mauga probably one of the most hated characters ever added he was a blast in the beta and most people agreed he was fun and fine as he was maybe a slight buff to survivability but blizzard didn't like that they wanted consistent so what they did instead was add armor, damage, remove the dual fire fire rate bonus, and cranked everything up which broke him
All he needed to be fun and effective was a tiny bit more survivability instead blizzard wanted to balance him like the rest and make him constantly hard to kill instead of the extremes he had before which ruined his character at it's core and now we just have immortal mauga because they just had to give him that armor for the sake of balance and they refuse to un do the change no matter how bad it is
@@sebastianrodriguez8992fr like people complained about balance issues in the past but yk what I prefer having balance issues than issues having fun & i had way more fun back then with og hog, og bastion, and og mercy in the game than i do now & it’s so sad to think about everything was so goofy & fun back then but everyone and the game is so miserable man

This game is surprisingly fun. I've been playing for a week and i love the Team-up system.
How is the hero shooters genre over saturated?
@@pixavier9746Team Fortress 2 has triple the daily players that Overwatch gets but you won’t hear about that
@@dbio305 to be fair that's only the Steam count, majority of OW players play from battlenet or consoles.
Funnily enough though, maybe if Overwatch hadn’t cancelled their pve story mode, they most likely would’ve still had a more
loyal fanbase. They are quite literally facing the karma of their piss poor decision in ruining a used to be good game to prioritize greed.
Honestly widow vs widow maker is genuinely stupid because if you have ever played both black widow is so much more aggressive
8:27 at that point they have to be hate baiting
