When I hit up my local park this past fall, there was a kid there who was much better than I could ever hope to be. He realized I had been watching him rip it up for at least the past five minutes and could tell I was a complete grom. He made it a point to not be a total stranger, came over and said "Hey" and gave me words of encouragement to keep skating even if I suck. This is the kind of shit I wanna see more of at parks. Encourage the noobs to just keep goin. No need to make fun of them or judge them, just give em a pat on the back. Who knows...they could be riding for a big company some day! Just my 2 cents.
Good stuff. If I was any good, I'd be more like that guy.

yeah i travelled 30 mins to check out a new park.. all the locals were shredding n i was a noob... they could tell i was a bit hesitant coz i wasnt as good as them.. BUT they encouraged me to keep skating made me feel welcomed and less anxious!

I have my local park dialed in. Like I'm good at my home park. The worst feeling in the world is warming up, seeing the random guy that was there, go off to the side, drink water, and then go home. I fuckin hate seeing that, but I'm antisocial. So just die inside.
One last park etiquette of the park rule. Don't judge anybody's fails. Even if they mess up an Ollie. It's embarrassing, and it's just mean.

Skateparks are full of “skaters”, thats a lifestyle, and if I wanna laugh my ass off to ur failed ollie I can, go learn to ollie in ur backyard if u dont wanna se people laugh at you

My experience when i was a our local little skatepark:
1. If you laugh about somebody who fails you get to know where the exit is. (If it's your buddy and he's fine with it it's probably no problem). That's the first thing they said to me and then started to help me to get started
2. Help others. Example: I tried to ride a bit, stepped on the nose and did a faboulus frontflip off my board. What happened? One guy went and got my board, one helped me up and said: "everything ok? here have a smoke and take a break"
These to things probably were the most important to me because it felt good to be there.

Thank you! my friends took me to s skatepark yesterday (my first time at a skatepark) and I've only been skating like a month and a lot of people kept telling me to look up skatepark etiquette, now I completely see everything I was doing wrong. Luckily they were all really nice though, they gave me tons of tips, one of them even went as far as to come off his board for a while and stay with me while I was learning to drop in (eventually after badly grazing my elbow, and falling on my face almost breaking my glasses, I got it).

What really makes me mad is when there's a bunch of stoners walking around high af watching us skate getting in the way, and for some reason these girls show up at the park and get in the way that don't ride and just overall cause trouple! i hate it!

Funny video, the only rule i disagree with is the one about noobs skating earlier, i think everyone is entitled to the same skating time. And here in portugal it's pretty usual to see those with more experience teaching both little kids and noobs. I know 'cause i am one! (A noob, that is) haha
I think his point was that there's more space and time to learn if you get there early when there's not too many people around, and you'll get familiar with the objects, so when the "pro's" come around it's more comfortable for everyone, including yourself.

I just started skating parks after many years skating street and surfing. There's a nice park by my house and the locals are mad cool. I knew there were do's and dont's - like in surfing - but I didn't know them exactly. This video was super useful and really well done.
Now that I know a few of the basic etiquette rules, I can concentrate on having fun, improving my ability, and hangin' with my fellow skaters in peace and harmony. Thanks!

I will try going in the mornings. I am a beginner and can only ride down banks and other inclines at this point. I do worry about looking stupid and getting in other (more experienced) peoples' way.

Honestly I don't think this is a big issue yes it can be if the person copying your trick is out to burn you, but if their at the park doing their own thing and do the same trick as you, not a big deal just chill :)

Also when your at the skate park:
1.Don't dis the kids at the skatepark.there skateboarding's next generation and try hard to fit in with the crowd. (Respect them.)
2.bikes and scooters don't not mix with skaters.
skaters don't mix with non-skaters.(don't mess with us .period!)
3.if your a smoker.please smoke on the sides not while doing your run.(second hand smoking is not what skatbording is about.)
4.dont throw rocks or trash or throw drinks in the skatepark. (Your gonna be jumped for puting everybody's life in danger.)(and if its children, go off on the parents for influencing an injury. Like y are they here and not playing at the play ground.)
5.dont forget to bring your own stuff and supplies when going to the skatepark for hours.(boy,dis aint goodwill and we aint give shit out for free.)df u doin!!
6.if u got a rail or other contraptions,makesure that it is not in the way and 75% of the people there are cool with it.
7.dont talk sht when u aint sht. (U will be laughed at and shamed.)
8.dont be a loud mouth when your not having a good day. (Your being annoying to everyone.)
9.dont bail on about every trick you do at the skatepark. (You are just getting in the way and look very crazy.)
10.when the cops,security, or parents come dont be the snitch boy that tells on people u don't even know or have a problem with. (snitches don't get fine bitches.)

There are a few special ones for ramps, like:
1. If you don't reach the lip your turn is over.
2. Don't wait for a run with your board on or near the coping.
3. If you slam and are not injured, get out of the way.

Wonder Johnson It's not about kicking the person off. The person who lands weak should just know to get off, IMO. New kids should come to the ramp when there's nobody around to learn pumping, kickturns, rock fakies etc. If there's an intense session going on going back and forth like that is a vibe-killer.

I'm 15 and I don't really know if I should go to my local skatepark or not. I want to have fun and get a decent amount of tricks on a skateboard. Unfortunately I'm a total beginner on a skateboard and can only kick turn and do small ollies. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
Chris B best way to learn is to go to you skatepark talk with the people. look how they do their tricks and you will learn a lot faster. everyone was a bloody beginner when they started skating I don't really think anyone at your local is gonna bash you for being new to the sport.

If it makes you feel better .... I'm 13 .... I started skating when I was 6 or 7 but stopped because I ran into a brick wall on my board .... And I went face first .... And got a concussion......... Today I found my old board and I am starting again .... I was cruising in the parking lot of the boat dock across from my house .... And all the sudden this fedex truck drives right up and almost hits me .... I try to turn and the two front wheels broke the hell off !! I was on the phone too and I just screamed "Holy Shitttt!!!"
I'm getting a new board soon .... But it was horrifying .... I was all like yass I'm gonna totally do this tomorrow night.... And then the wheels snapped off .... It was already pretty beat up ..... But I can barely cruise so if you think that is bad that u only know that .... Well I hope this made you feel a bit better

Another thing to add: If you see a stray board rolling close to you, just stop it with your foot so the other skater doesn't have to run across the park to grab it.
Not everyone is a militant skater... I agree with the 'no snaking', but the stuff on not skating if you're a beginner is cuntish. You've got to start somewhere, and the locals should be accepting of beginners - as long as they wait their turn, and use the different parts of the park as intended.
at our skatepark we don't mind non-skaters coming in, but! they have to at least try out something on like a friend's board and they can't come along, without anybody else, just to sit there. There's also a rule that everyone follows there where if you haven't tried something at least 3 times it doesn't count

Hey and no harm in actually going up to a skater trying a trick and asking them if you can try it with them. Don’t do this as a way to show them up, either. Genuine intent is easy to see and super appreciated :)

You forgot my 3 biggest pet peeves
1 no sitting/having your wheels on/over or standing too close to the coping. It's a passive snake.
2 no leaving your cell, bag, drinks, or anything else on ledges.
3 Spit outside the park. No one wants to step in your bodily fluids then step on their board which they will have to touch eventually.
