First time listening to the podcast. This is the realest art stuff I've ever heard! The pros deal with what us beginners struggle with as well. Awesome to hear
Absolutely love the supplies and business talk. Don't know why I find it so interesting but I just do. Also, count me as one vote for the pigeon idea. But what ever you guys decide I'll do my best to contribute. Great episode!!
More tool talk please! Also thanks essential sequential for the sale, I'm one of the guys that nabbed a matteo prelim, I want a comic of prelims please!
Thank you for the great episode once again! I'm really enjoying it! I think the idea of creating a discord channel will work! Not only for the purposes that you mentioned in the video but for the purpose of connection with each other, like providing critique to each others art or streaming our drawing process and having a chat on the discord channel sounds great! To me at least😅
If you try Hot Press Arches, you may want to try Fabriano watercolor paper as well. Some batches of Arches has had issues with consistency in the sizing within the paper which also messes with absorption. As far as I have heard from customers at the store I work at, Fabriano has had overall better product consistency over the years.
Cue Mike Tyson on a roof letting his pigeons out and flying to everyone for their questions. P.S. you could create a free Patreon and that would be a great way as you announce guests and people can out their half-assed questions :)
Discord is great if you're a member of 3-5 channels. If you're invited to a million, which most people are, it becomes a mess and people drop off quickly. TH-cam also has a community section, but I have a feeling many people don't even know it exists.
@inkpulp worth a look, but probably not the solution you're looking for as TH-cam doesn't really push the feature out there and so people aren't even aware of it, making it pretty useless for engagement purposes.
I'm actually of the probably unpopular opinion that the broader comic book community needs to consolidate around its own social network.. and what if this social network app allowed you to read comics and discuss them with other fans and artists in one seamless digital experience. I think it's a big opportunity for next-gen comics consumption. Yes, I know there are too many social networks as it is, but i think the comics community is diverse enough and hungry enough for interaction to warrant "yet another social network"
Questions to ask when creating and/or selling original art: (correct me if I'm wrong) 1: What connects my art to something PROLIFIC? 2: How DYNAMIC are my camera ANGLES? 3. How do my images CONNECT with the people buying my art (and how many people does it connect with?)? 4. How do people personally connect with me (or my persona) as I present myself (or persona)? 5. Does my art fit in any other lanes (is it similar to any other artists who could expose me to viewers or people who could potentially buy and ENJOY my art for years after it's been purchased?) 6. Am I working hard enough to impress myself? These are not numbered by importance.
Probably discord the way to go. My kids are constantly on it. Son Tried to explain to me how to use it and I felt like a lost old man 😑 but kids seem to love it 🤣
I’ve always used acrylics. The magic is in layers with matte medium more than water. Water will break up the binding agent in the paint. Not all that important for illustration. But for a permanent piece for sale. The glazing medium I get makes the paint too shiny. I think it was liquitex.
Stay Wet Palette works great. But Mateo is rich so he can buy new paint every time it dries up! Arches Hot press 100% cotton Grain Fine is awesome for inking and will allow you to work ink washes as watercolors, so it’s great. And Discord is easy to navigate as a regular user, but I don’t know how hard it is as a manager.
Discord sucks. The amount of spam alone makes it unusable for any but the most devoted of users. I would go with a subreddit, personally, but hey, I’m an old fart and a neo Luddite.
Please get some extra footage and start a Patreon! Or just cut your vids in half and have brighter dynamic shorts and fill them with flashes of your art! Use the Patreon for instructional vids too! Attach your newest vids to current events! I dont know what the fuck I'm talking about but I know you guys are about to blow up soon if you just keep this shit up! No doubt. Also only do the byebyee every once in a while. Make em wait for it😊. Ima shut up now and enjoy the New Year!!!! Happpy fackin NEW YEAR BABYYYYY!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! GOD.... ERIC IS RUINING IT BECAUSE HE'S SOOO NEGATIVE JEEEEEEZZZZZ! just playing. Hes cool as long as everyone gets their time talking and its not some rant about a neurotic rabbithole. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉wooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Eric will never get on Wikipedia HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
Dude ummm... Richard Friend has a great Patreon outline or whatever. He has it set up for optional pay rates. I think the cheapest one is a dollar, but if I had constant income right now I would pay for at least $1/month for his and your Patreon. I think that might be his cheapest. but I know he's probably busy with Comic Book Pro Bootcamp with Ryan Benjies but he seems like a really helpful dude!
Good narration, but stop this crappy AI! Use real photos or renderings! There are plenty of historical pieces to showcase as visual aids with this narrative
@inkpulp my apologies, but the comment was meant for a different video from someone else. I was typing and before I could hit send my video cue brought up your video.

@@inkpulp I would be in immediately, just like when Kayfabe created the King Kayfaber Patreon...and I know a lot of others would be in on it!

Discord works well for everything you guys were talking about.

Great list!
Legion Stonehenge may be a little too vellum for you, but it's worth a test---most shops sell individual sheets
I like stonehenge, its a printmakers paper. But Its not great with heavy wet washes form what i remeber?
@@inkpulp checks out, I've mostly just used sumi, but I'll play around and let you know

I know the feeling LOLOLOOLOL
Dischord was a confusing mess when I was on it. It was impossible to navigate when I was in a show and they added me.
That was my experience , but ive been told if you keep at it, it all gets easy
Shawn gives Jill Thompson a shout out! I’ve known Jill for over 40 years. She’s awesome
She's amazing! Love her work!
Stay wet palettes are like 25 bucks. Matteo wants the gold plated version? So bougie 🤣
Well, he is Italian lol

I've tried the Stay Way pallet, a cheaper version and I got mold in it:) im sure I fucked it up:)
LOL! Gross! LOL
I would like an email that we can send questions and recommend guests.
We ar eworking on a solution to this right now!

Yeah, i know telegram. We are discussing options
Why are you censoring your page rates? That only benefits the publishers.
Matteo was just uncomfortable sharing that info. And i respect his choice. Youre right tho, mayeb we should be having that talk
