  • A decade after winning the Eurovision song contest with the track “Hard Rock Hallelujah,” the Finnish costumed monster-band Lordi finally made their debut in Canada. I spoke to frontman Mr. Lordi after a sweaty show at Toronto’s Opera House about what has changed for the band ten years after flirting with mainstream culture, where their characters end and begin, and why they turned down a massive North American and European tour with Gwar.

Great interview! Nice with some more varied questions for once, with Lordi it's usually the same. I subscribed!

Well that is just you music taste :) i like Gwars music too so that will not bother me if they do a tour together :P and nobody say you have to see Gwar if they someday make a tour you can ship the Gwar part of the concert and just see Lordi or just dont go and wait to Lordi come back again :)

Kinda lost some respect for him.
I still like the music, especially the first 3 albums, but all his "stupid this, stupid that".
"It doesn't work" - maby because the lack of acting talant? It certainly works with GWAR, and they doesn't even hide their real names and faces. "You have to be comfortable with this shit and you have to belive in this shit", - maybe he's not that comfortable and doesn't belive it enough, if he thinks it's stupid to be in character when you dress up?
I'm a musician myself, always dress up on stage, and I never felt uncomfortable acting in character. Even when the band I played in was not really "my cup of tea", I tried to shape my character so I could enjoy it and act better.
He's just too serious for guy in a monster costume.

Didn't the frontman for GWAR talk shit about Mr. Lordi at the time? At a professional level, I doubt many would want to work with someone talking behind your back.

      @@flashn00b Depends.
Dave Brockie talked shit in costume or without costume?
Because if he did that in costume, maybe you took him a bit too seriously.

@Alex Gun i totally understand him, he doesn't have to reveal his face OR stay in character for all the time, it's just fine this way
