Well I am English and can tell you that the song has absolutely nothing to do with the Easter Rising of 1916. The only connection is the date which was 12th May 1921 which for those of you who know it was 5 years to the day since the execution of James Connolly and Seán Mac Diarmada on 12th May 1916 for their part in the Easter Rising. So the true events is the song took place on 12th May 1921 during the Irish War of Independence where the 3 boys Patrick Dalton, Paddy Walsh and Jerry Lyons were beaten up and executed by the Black and Tans in Co Kerry. Huge respect to all those men and women who have given their lives for Irish Freedom and the past 800 years. Finbar Furey is an absolute living bloody legend god bless him.
just pure Irish blood heart and soul voiced passionately to the mothers loss of her young sons..i listened from my heart..as us Irish have that gift..good on ya Finbar..
Finbar is a true living legend and personally responsible for me becoming fanatical about Irish trad music (and in particular Uilleann pipers) ever since I was blown away by his music when I first saw him perform at a pub in Cork about 40 plus years ago, so, the man can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes. That said, I have to put the records straight here. It was Thursday 12 May 1921, (five years to the day since the executions of Seán MacDiarmada and James Connolly for their part in the Easter Rising) however the the boys names were in fact Patrick Dalton, Paddy Walsh and Jerry Lyons. (Not forgetting young Con Dee of course, the only one to have survived the ambush and who lived to report the incident to the authorities). R.I.P. lads. Beautifully performed as always Finbar...Up The Kingdom!❤️
I just discovered this tonite and see it was recently added to the wonderful list of Finbar Furey tunes on TH-cam!!! I was so thrilled to see something new and this man's voice just gets richer and more mellow as he ages. and he is lookin awesome
maybe we will sing songs and tell stories of our most recent fighting men and women for the fight for freedom when stories are told to the next generations that will come after us.
michael mallin I'm sure some beautiful songs will be written one day about the current invasion of Ireland and the Kalergi plan "Ireland 2040" agenda curently being fronted by the homosexual Indian leader of Ireland Leo Varadkar. War will be inevitable in the coming years if the indigenous people of Ireland wish to survive. Their great and brave ancestors that suffered so much are turning in their graves at what the new generations are allowing to happen. Let's just hope that eventually the people will stand up and resist before they meet their eternal doom.
The hard men will have their work cut out for them...if they to avoid genetic death. How many more young men must take their lives in despair while strangers take their place? Your brothers, ladies.
Her Majesty couldn’t show in public how much she enjoyed this … I bet in private she would have been in hysterics… the Royal Navy chaps could put on similar shows … many years ago in a RN concert in either Torpoint or Plymouth some of them were “ballerinas” and brought the house down when they were “dancing around a “lake” and raised their arms to display several pairs of black hairy armpits!!!!
tx don’t you know who this is?? Given your comment I can only assume your American and know nothing of Irish history and of Shan nos singing. Please do some research or keep your stupid thoughts to yourself.
Great Song. 🎵🎼☘️🇮🇪🕊
The people who gave a dislike must be from england..top singer finbar irish legend 👍👍
i am english and have an overwhelming respect and appreciation for the history of irish music and culture. not all of us brits are the same
Where are the dislikes??
I am English and think Finbar expresses emotion in a way few other singers can manage. It's just so enjoyable to listen to his singing.
I'm Irish and I'm after thinking that remark is mighty ignorant. There are no dislikes on here so stop stirring the pot.

I agree with Kathleen. Lovely voice of Finbar Furey. Beautifully sung. An absolute gentleman and a joy to listen to.
