Smallest Golden Retriever Puppy is Lucky to be Alive | The Farm for Dogs

- We'd like to introduce you all to this tiny but very special little girl named Crispy, or Parmesan Crisp, the 9 month old Golden Retriever puppy who we have adopted into our family here at the farm.
Crispy has only been at the farm a little while now. She has been in the life saving care of a very very special rescue called Life of Pikelet.
Life of Pikelet, specialises in neo natal care for puppies that have congenital birth defects. Crispy has a full cleft on her hard and soft palate and is stunted in growth. She has been cleared for a liver shunt but will continue to be monitored throughout her life. She has truly fought to be alive, and came very close to not surviving at 7 weeks old, if it wasn't for the 24/7 intensive care from a very devoted Calley at the rescue.
We are very fortunate to have Crispy in our life. Thank you Calley.
Life of Pikelet rescue struggles with adoption interest and finances and I'd really like to take this opportunity to shine a little light on them and the very important work they do. I have to be honest, this work is not for the faint hearted, many of the pups do not survive, about only 1 in 4. Crispy came into care with 4 other pups that sadly did not make it and Calley fought very hard to keep Crispy from passing too. As I write this I am thinking of Calley, who is presently mourning the loss of another very special pup named Noodles. And every day she fights so hard with everything she has against these terrible odds.

I am a retired nurse, and the only thing I had no desire to do, for emotional reasons, is exactly what you are doing, so my nurses hat ( which was retired a few years after I began my career 😂) is tipped off to you Mam!!❤ That is a difficult tour of duty, but I'm sure very rewarding too. And then there are those other days...
I often dealt with a lot of cancer patients, death in the young and old, but I think I had the natural knack for it.
You're in a line that sees a high rate of depression/burn-out, so watch out for yourself. Don't be afraid to work another type of unit, even if it's just for a while, or until you decide what type of unit you want to try next. I had a very wide, full range of nursing by the time I retired.

I grew up with a Golden retriever, he lived 18 years and was a real joy to have in our home. Mischievous and so much fun. We would find socks shoes all over the place. He even found my Dad's false teeth.

Crispy is a gorgeous, precious and very special girl. She is a fighter who has beaten the odds. The pack will love her beautiful sweet typical Goldy nature. When the other dogs came in to meet her she looked a bit overwhelmed and could almost see her think "bloody hell, how many are there?" The pack was so gentle with her. She doesn't know it yet, but after all the hard times she had to endure she has arrived in Doggy heaven on Earth. Number 21.
At over 80000 views if almost everyone donated to Life of Pikelet the immediate fundraising goal could be met. A couple dollars by many can make a difference

Maybe I’m being fanciful, but it seemed like at least a few of the dogs I saw meeting/interacting with her - Rosco, Banjo, Matilda, Rover, even Abra(could it be)? had a look of resolve - “We’ll watch out for/take care of this little girl, Dad”! She is beyond beautiful, thank you.
Honestly, Crispy’s introduction and integration has surprised us. Dogs like Abra and Shadow who would usually be intimidating, the whole pack have completely accepted her. Even to the point of being quiet and calm around her. A little strange to us. Like they do know she’s been through a lot. Even though she’s putting out all signs of being nervous which can be triggering for some dogs.
All the dogs were very gentle and seemed to like and accept her instantly, it was very sweet to see. Even Kitty Rose.@@TheFarmForDogs

Golden Retrievers are the #1 family dog. All can see her sweet nature. Miss Violet tends to be one of the first to greet newcomers and I noticed she was right there to say Hello. 💜
I can see Crispy and sweet Aunt Maggie will probably be besties. When Crispy was walking past Miss Violet, she stopped next to Maggie, and you could see her move a bit closer to Maggie, almost leaning against her. Crispy is a true gentle soul. I remember other dogs who were on the timid side when they got to the farm. Freddie the whippet, Ziggy the black Lab mix (I think that's what he was), and of course Faith and Hope. In every case these dogs had the love and support of the pack, and the Evans family to help them get past the rough spots and become the best they could be.
So true, look at faith now u would never know she was yhe same same dog who would not even walk.

I love how you introduce new dogs to the farm. You gave Crispy a great foundation to begin with. Unexpectedly Crispy likes playing the floor is lava as she hopped from sofa to sofa. I’m sure when she is able she will participate in the runs but probably from inside the ranger how Roscoe likes to. Evie looks beautiful in her glasses.
