  • Hi folks,
    It has been over a year since I started cooking Mr. Maxx's food from scratch.
    Over this period of time I have adjusted and modified the recipe repeatedly.
    This is the process I find that works best for Maxx, as far as sneezing and
    busting his nose on the ground after eating from packing nose with food particles.
    First I started with food processor. Then I changed up to blender batches.
    The problem with these to work is it takes bone stock to help process these.
    The blender takes even more stock. That sticky moist you get is were I found
    the nose packing problem while eating. His mother she broke her whole snout from sneezing
    and busting her face on the floor. There was no being able to fix from her age.
    over 16 yrs. That poor dog. she would sneeze and it would be facing one way.
    Then the next. Made it difficult for her breathing through her nose. And it never healed.
    Sadly I had to put her down from all she was suffering from.
    I can't have that happen to Maxx. That would tear up my heart.
    I have found that grinding works the best. Then save the Bone stock for your pet.
    I also know not everyone can grind. If you do follow the other recipe.
    I put the dogs on there beds after eating so when they do inevitably sneeze.
    They wont bust there old aging fragile snout.
    My mom's dogs are Dachshund. So there face is 3 inches to the ground.
    Another note. I would always chat with your vet and keep him informed of your
    pets dietary intake when suffering from kidney disease. You made need to adjust things.
    With all this said I hope with this recipe you can give your special friend a long
    life with minimal discomforts from this disease.

    10 LBS. CHICKEN THIGHS. AVG.
    48 OZS. EACH OF PEAS, CARROTS, GREENBEANS.
    2 CUPS DRY RICE W/4 CUPS WATER. BRING TO BOIL THEN SIMMER 17 MINUTES.
    32 OZS. EGG WHITES. POUR RIGHT IN WITH THE COOKED RICE.
    WILL COOK AS YOU FOLD INTO THE RICE. RESULTING IN SMALL SPECKS OF EGG.
    DIVIDE INTO 1/3 PORTIONS FREEZING THE LAST TWO UNTILL NEEDED.
    *****
    CAN SUBSTITUTE FRESH PEELED & BOILED WHITE POTATO'S 4 LBS. FOR THE RICE.
    WITH THIS SUBSTITUTION I JUST POUR 1 PINT OF EGG WHITES INTO THE POTATO'S.
    THEN CONTINUE TO STIR AND FOLD IN TILL BLENDED AND COOKED.

    OMG I am sooo sorry for your loss. YOU WERE SUCH AN AWESOME DOG PARENT! GOD BLESS YOU!!! Thank you for loving MAX soooo much and doing your best in caring for him. Thank you for sharing this delicious and nutritious recipe with us. The only thing I'd change is, boiling the veggies. Microwaves are poison. They completely change the anatomical structure of the food to garbage. Again , sorry that Max had to cross the rainbow bridge. He lives forever in your heart. Thanks again ❤️.

      Lesley go ahead and use boneless skinless thighs. Easier to break apart when finished and less phosphorus without the boiled bones. Still keep stock for drinking.

      Because my moms dog maxx only had two teeth. Same with his soft chew peanut butter pumpkin cookies. Also ground down the food breaks down easier for the nutrients in it.

    • @AnthonyBreschini
      @AnthonyBreschini  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good question. I am speculating at this time. I have not made this recipe since just before thanksgiving when he crossed over. I would estimate around 1/2 lbs for a 4 1/2 - 5 lbs package. 20 % meat protean ratio is good.

    I've been reading and trying to learn as much as I can about canine nutrition. Is over cooking the chicken bad? The vet I visited said to only cook it 15 minutes.

    • @AnthonyBreschini
      @AnthonyBreschini  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dogs system can handle raw chicken. I cook it to death for several reasons. 1st Maxx has 2 teeth. Second I want all the nutrition from the bones for his chicken bone stock i give him 3 times a day. third it is easier to work with and grinds better as well as flakes apart. However doing it the way the vet says is not wrong. I have been feeding this to him for over a year and it works better then anything on the market. without the preservatives. Thank you for viewing, as well as your comment and concern. I do hope this video helps you and gives your pet a long extended comfortable life. I also feed him half his food. then 1 - 2 hrs later give him the other half. twice a day 12 hrs apart. This helps with stomach discomfort if that is something you notice your dog experiencing.

      Thank you for watching and the kind words. It is hard to go threw the experiences of getting old. Maxx is almost 115 yrs old. He monopolizes my time these days and I am glad for each one of them. He struggles with his daily routines, and now I assist him in his day. One thing is he sleeps long hours these days. He struggles to stand and stabilize his hind legs. knees and hips riddled in arthritis. Being a dachshund I can carry and hold him pretty easy. These days I get something called udder cream from the pharmacy and rub into the pads of his paws several times a day. Deep into the sides and base of the pads. I did not realize how dried and tender they get with age. I have seen a big improvement in the softness of them.

      Thank you for sharing this recipe. My dog was diagnosed about 5 years ago with kidney disease and high blood pressure. He takes medication for both but the vet put him on Hills k/d kibble and we also buy the wet hills canned food. I always give him filtered water after he eats. He does not want to eat the kibble anymore, who can blame him? I am going to try your recipe, I like the idea of drinking chicken stock with water for him. He has been on the Hills diet for five years. He was only two when he got diagnosed. He’s a rescue and my husband and me adore him. We have another rescue who got diabetes and as soon as I get my other dog adjusted to this new diet I will search out one for my diabetic dog. She has to get insulin shots twice a day and eat Royal Canine Kibble and canned. I want my dogs to feel good, but I’m beginning to think this special kibble thing is not working. My dogs I had as a kid ate what my family ate and they were happy and active. God bless you!

    • @AnthonyBreschini
      @AnthonyBreschini  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I researched and fed Maxx the dish for over a year and a half. He loved it. As far as heart disease. That was not what was taking him down. Kidneys and liver. It was 20% of the total ingredients added. So small in the grand scheme of things. He ate till the very end. The hardest part is the fine grind. So it could help his body to break it down. as well as his timetable. fed him meals 12 hrs apart for maximum digestion. He also got 1/2 C. Chicken Bone Broth Soup 3 times a day to curb his hunger pains. Also would give him a couple soft chew Peanut butter pumpkin treats.

      It wasn't legumes alone as the culprit from what I remember. It's GRAIN FREE diets which are heavy in legumes. Legumes themselves were not suspected to cause heart disease, it was only when grains were not included they found some kind of correlation with heart disease.

      I do heat it up. I also use the bone broth soup after boiling the chicken for soup for them. With my Mom's dog Maxx before he passed. I would give 1/2 cup soup 3 times a day heated. Bone broth soup is good nutrition. Substance without substenance. I also fed him half cup portions of the dog food twice a day. I actually spaced them 12 hrs apart for Max digestive. Was rough because he likes to eat around 3:30 and the am took a few months for me to adjust. Spacing the solid food apart for his body time to digest the previous. I hope this helps and wish you the best. Keep them comfortable in-between. Maxx was a small 🐕

He’ll eat broccoli and cauliflower if i put butter on it but that’s it for veggies and won’t eat eggs no matter how I cook them if even tried the butter thing with them and nope.
