      If you like Truman Show watch Dark City (if you haven't). There are some nice parallels to it and The Truman Show. It's visually darker and but still if you never seen it, give it a watch.

God, I was so interested in if he was gonna find Sylvia, because she is the only true thing he found all along, and I was feeling sorry that the movie didnt show if they even met in the end. Now I get the message, why he left, and why it ended like that in the first place. True masterpiece and I fully enjoyed your breakdown of it. This is a great movie :)

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Thanks! The movie is very meta. Characters who are actors for the show often look to the camera and speak directly to us. The movie frames society as treating the real lives of celebrities and ordinary people as entertainment. A real life example would be the media’s obsession with Brintney Spears.

    One of the Carey movies I never got around to watching until recently. I'm not sure about anyone else but I got a different vibe from the movie. What I got from it was that it was more of a reflection on society than it was about Truman himself. It seemed to me like it was questioning how far society is willing to go for the sake of entertainment in what was then the relative new world of reality TV. This idea was most likely inspired by shows such as Jerry Springer where peoples misery suddenly became other peoples entertainment.

    • @Chase4boy

      The film treats the audience of the show and the real audience of the movie as one and the same. YOU are the one invading his privacy each day. And when Truman leaves the show, he’s leaving your view because he’s choosing to no longer be an object of your entertainment.

  • @daniellanglois89
    @daniellanglois89 3 ปีที่แล้ว +177

    If everyone else is an actor except Truman, and their job is to do the same things every day, then aren't they somewhat trapped just like he is? Can they leave the set/studio? Do they get to take breaks? Or have they all been acting for 30 years non-stop, in the same location?

    • @anxietastic_depressionista
      @anxietastic_depressionista 3 ปีที่แล้ว +86

      I was paying extra attention the last time I watched the movie; I picked up on other characters mentioning past extended hospital stays and work trips. I'm assuming those scenarios were fabricated as cover for the actor taking a vacation. You are right though about them being trapped in that world with Truman for the most part; but the vitally important difference is that it's their job and they have a choice, Truman never did and he deserves a chance at a real life.

      It’s implied that Truman’s love interest Lauren was a part of some bigger movement that opposed Truman’s exploitation. But yeah, the ending of the movie seems to be saying that the audience’s connection to Truman was never real. They may have watched him grow up every day, they might have cheered for his success when he finally left the show, but once it ends they immediately find another channel to watch. They never cared for him as a person, they just enjoyed the entertainment he gave them.

      It's called Gnosticism. Because it's from Holywood. The Lego Movie is the same theme. Holywood is sold out to the devil and have satanic agendas and to pervert the message of Christ. That's the truth of the Truman show in our real world. Our world is controlled by those people, what you see on TV and cinema, what you hear on radio, world events that occur is carefully controlled by those satanic groups, parts of secret societies plotting in the darkness to keep you as far away as possible from the salvation of the Gospel.

    "Show must go on..." But really, the show has been going on for longer than The Truman Show or internet. By leaving the film set Truman is not necessarily entering the "real" world with Silvia, but he is just entering another show. And it's ok. The main thing for him would be to Recognize that "that too is a show", a play of the shadows on the cave wall, and be at peace with it, and maybe even find a way out of it.

  • @JaguarCats

    I always imagined Christof having to face criminal penalties for trying to KILL some one on LIVE television. Hopefully in this world murder is still considered murder. And then there's the fact that Truman could of been entitled to a MASSIVE amount of royalties from all of the money the show made off him.

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I like to think that at the end once Truman left and you get the shot of Christof leaning back in his chair he’s not just realizing the effort he’s dedicated the last few decades towards has gone to waste, but also the magnitude of the consequences that he may have to face.

      Jesus is the light of the world. I know it sounds like a religious sales pitch but truly you cannot see clearly any other way. Many Christians who think they know Jesus are still in darkness. Even knowing what we know through Him we still “see dimly as through a glass.” It takes more dedication & time to see all that the light (Jesus) wants to show us.

Paranoia means being fearful of something happening that is NOT in Reality. If it's real, then the word "paranoia" is no longer applicable. Remember, paranoia is a fear of something happening that is NOT real. If it's real, then their fear is warranted, valid, grounded in Reality. Paranoia is never grounded in Reality.

    I think it was an intention of the film to suggest that we are all Truman. I think that's a great insight. I also like another aspect which is dramatised but intended to reflect us all is 'authenticity'. Similar to films like Chinatown in the 70s when authenticity was at risk in the face of seemingly unknowable and all-controlling political forces, now the threat has changed to the fakery of the virtual world we interact with and has resulted in the same crisis of authenticity. Loved the video

      Not a dumb question! He was an orphan that was selected as a baby and “adopted” by the corporation that runs the Truman show. Whether he has living biological parents that are aware of his existence or not is unknown. The movie was free on TH-cam for some time, but I believe it is now up to rent.

    Did you know that Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz grew up in the house shown in the movie as Truman’s home (31 Natchez St, Seaside, FL, 36 in the movie)? In fact his parents Don and Vicky Gaetz still own it. Matt has lots of other problems and I’ll bet he wishes he can escape into the movie version of the house. Verify on Wikipedia. 🥰

    My only true issue with this movie was how the ending seemed a little rushed. You never see him meet the creators of the show in-person, him reunite with Sylvia, or see him leave the studio into the actual outside world, and when him and Meryl break up you don’t even see them break up. I think this movie could’ve benefited if it was at least 10-15 minutes longer. It just seemed like a lot was missing still. However, it was a great movie whatsoever. I really hope Jim Carey doesn’t actually retire yet.

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I kind of agree. I remember when I first saw it I thought “that’s it?” It leaves you with an incomplete feeling. But I like the interpretation that the whole movie is about whether Truman would choose to stay in a world he knows is fake, and once he does the tension over that conflict is over so the movie doesn’t need to continue. Also since the movie is pretty meta, once Truman leaves the show he also leaves our view since we are the audience that has watched him his entire life.

    The part most people aren't seeing is that the dome or flat earth is the public trust, and when the true man realized what was going on he found a way to leave the public and enter the private through the hidden door. This is there for all of us if we make that choice to enter life and being part of the 3D living world that our Creator made for us with dominion over our life, liberty and property.

    I think this movie also predicted parasocial relationships. The in universe audience love and worship truman like how we love and worship celebrities and influencers they know everything about him while he knows nothing about the audience

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! The ending also solidifies how hollow and fake parasocial relationships are. Over the course of the show, Truman has unknowingly accumulated a massive worldwide audience that fanatically worships him. People cheer for him like they cheer for the Super Bowl, and own merch of him like he’s a hero. Yet the moment Truman leaves, his audience immediately loses interest in him. It’s no accident the last shot of the film is the two cops looking to watch something else once Truman left.

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There probably is, but I wouldn’t know where to find it. I think there is opportunity to tell an interesting story of Truman attempting to acclimate to normal society after living his entire life as a celebrity. But on the other hand, I think any attempt to continue the story might be self defeating. The point of the movie is that we the audience are invading his life without consent. At the end of the film, he makes the decision to not allow us to view him any longer.

    Question I have for lawyers out there how much do you think you could get Truman in a lawsuit and what would you be suing for?

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      In the movie, Christof refers to Truman as “the first baby adopted by a corporation.” This suggests that there are laws or loopholes that exist in the movie’s universe that made it completely legal. That being said, if something like the Truman show happened in our world I could see it being treated the same as wrongful incarceration. He is basically in a prison after all.

    I get that he starts "noticing something is weird", because no one refers to these events, but writ large, weird compared to what? He has nothing to base normality on. It would have been so simple to explain these events to him.

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      His life was designed to be as close to a normal person's as possible. So events like lights falling from the sky, the radio channel discussing his every move, accidents and people getting in his way preventing him from leaving his town, and many more of the other suspicious things would definitely feel out of the ordinary to him.

    For some reason, I’ve been obsessed with the concept of this movie lately. IRL, Truman would have sued the $hit out of the corporation who adopted him. Controlling someone’s life in such an insidious way because you “own” them is tantamount to slavery and that’s definitely immoral and illegal.

    • @Chase4boy
      @Chase4boy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s compelling because Truman isn’t inherently super extraordinary. He’s just an ordinary guy for the most part. It makes his life’s situation of being monitored and exploited for tv entertainment feel more plausible, because we all live lives just like truman. It makes me feel a little paranoid despite the likely impossibility.

    This same argument is used for having children, that I can't have kids until I have the house the dog the picket fence. When it's all just shadows on a cave and inhibits the child from learning the true nature of life. To venture out and carve one's own path and not follow the shadows. We are coddled to it when we are young and conditioned we would never have the courage to do what Truman did and leave that safety net.

      *concerned. "Paranoia" is fear of something happening that is not actually happening, that is not Reality. In the last 30 years, it has become popular to throw that word around, to misapply it to valid fears that are real. There are two kinds of fear: real or imagined. Paranoia is fear of what is imagined, not real. If something is actually happening, the person's concern or fear is valid, warranted, grounded in reality, because it is actually happening to them.
