Man !! you are on the top 3 teachers on youtube!! i love it, When do you bring something about THOUGHT GROUP?

    • @britishaccentmethod
      @britishaccentmethod  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Jose, I'm glad the video has helped. Who are the other teachers that you like on TH-cam?
Good question re thought groups... here's a simple tip: you only get one intonation per thought group. Imagine that intonation is the spoken equivalent to punctuation, which divides thought groups.
I've got a challenge coming soon to the channel which I think you're going to like.
      Cheers,
      Michael

    It's utterly intriguing.
Just by incorrect intonation one can sound not interested to have a conversation with someone.
Que. Is it your birthday today?
    Ans. No (With falling intonation)
Person who asked question might feel that the listener isn't interesting in what he has to say. Speaker will lose interest to keep the conversation going.
Que. Is it your birthday today?
Ans. NoOO (Rising intonation). Why do you think it's my birthday today?
Now it simply suggests that the listener is interested in the fact that speaker asked something personal and there is a reason for the question.
Because listener took interest, he came up with a counter question and a prolonged conversation took place.
How fascinating it can be that just by rise or fall in the intonation can bring such a difference...
    Thanks a lot Sir ❤️🎉

You've understood it perfectly. Do you find it difficult to do in your speaking or not?

Michael, why not just say that special questions in English require the falling intonation pattern, while general (yes/no) questions use the rising intonation?
