Rest in peace, Bertholdt Hoover. In the manga, he had a lot more references and scenes where he showed up, (like before Reiner had put the rifle in his mouth, his last thought had originally been his last conversation with Bertholdt- "I'm counting on you buddy") Really saddens me

Not to mention an entire deleted chapter of Annie carrying both Reiner and Bertholdt until Reiner steps in. And their time as refuges also doing farm work and discussing their next plan. Annie mentioning she could marry her way into the royal family to which Bertholdt hastily refuses to let happen.

Bertoto was the most skilled warrior of all with the strongest and biggest Titan of all only reason he never showed his skill or power because he was more mature than all of the warriors combined and knew what he was doing was wrong and he was forced to do it also he was depressed so it didn't help him. This made him seem weak but in season 3 when he goes against Mikasa you can see he was as skilled and strong as Mikasa who is basically a superhuman an Ackerman.
He was truly the most terrifying of them all when he decided to make decisions for himself

@@ginpau7416 I think it's because they would get old and no longer be in their prime. If you were 23 and got a titan, you would be 36 when you retire. 36 isn't really in their prime. So they probably want people who are below 18 so they will still serve their purpose by the time they are 31.

Berthold is the most manipulable among candidates, they needed to be sure that the colossal woulden't go against Marley

It makes me so sad when I remember bertholdts death his last words were calling out Annie and Reiner for help and died so painfully and he never got to say his feelings to Annie and he was so excited to go back home to see his sick dad and to treat him but only Reiner came home and now his dad died without seeing bertholdt grow or come after 7 years
His death always makes me sad. Died not knowing whether Annie was ok or not, had no idea where Reiner was and moments before his death literately being treated like a sack of meat on who he was going to be given to to survive.
Yeah, but if I were to be honest, all those Titan shifter that were eaten by Titans are not actually dead. They are in the paths. Where living and death neither exist. Berthold reunited with Zeke and Armin in paths. Armin actually apologize to Berthold for the feeling like he robbed everything to him.

This is because you are seeing this as left-to-right, which is a standard thing for English readers. Japanese manga are read from right-to-left, and anime pretty much copies the scenes from the manga. Bertholdt here is on the left side, while Pieck is on the right. If Intelligence is mentioned first, the speech bubble in the manga would be on the right side, meaning that Pieck is the intelligent one. Marksmanship is mentioned next, so it would be on the left side, which is Bertholdt. The anime removes the speech bubbles for voice acting, so I can see why you think that.

I feel for warriors equally. They did what they were told. Berth was dead inside when he had to kill soldiers during battle. But in end when he was about to die. He looked at them with hope and then soldiers were sad to see him getting eaten.

@@ky5711 all of them are intended to do what Marley says, but shifters are selected based on what they can bring to the table,in some way they have to be exceptional at what they do (for example being very strong, intelligent, level headed or skillful).
It is stated both in the manga and in some of these scenes that Marcel Galliard(the older brother of Porco Galliard aka Jaws titan) did whatever he could so that his brother Porco wouldn't be selected because he wanted him to live a good life. Even when Porco was better suited to be a shifter he made Reiner look better than he actually was so that he would inherit the Armoured Titan instead of his brother .
Given that declaration and the fact that Reiner didn't make good decisions while in Paradis like encouraging Berthold and Annie to stay and investigate once Ymir accidentally ate Marcel instead of going back to Marley and let the real stragetist like Zeke and Pieck come up with a counter plan we can easily state that Reiner wasn't a good shifter.
I always thought that the fact Reiner was so set on taking someone, be it Eren, Historia or Ymir back to Marley with them was to save his own ass. If he had come back with nothing he would probably have been eaten by Porco, but instead he brought Ymir (the jaw titan at that time) what made Marley spare him, even when they already had new candidates selected to be the new shifter generation.
Personally what I hate about him is how emotionally unstable he is and being unable to be neither a warrior or a soldier.

While Annie was being selfish and wanted to return to Marley with their failure (which would only result in them being eaten), Reiner was the one who moved forward with it. (Sure Even he had his own reasons, but we can’t deny that his main goal was as selfless as it comes,) Speaking of it, Reiner’s goal after his father reacted him was to save the entire world, while Annie and Bert just wanted to return home. That, in itself makes him a true warrior, Someone who lives and fights for the whole world, not just himself.
Yet, I do think that he is more better suited as a soldier, rather than a warrior.
