Arantxa had badly sprained her ankle in March and then got a stomach virus during the French Open (probably why she looked so frazzled in that third set), and of course Steffi had been finding her way back after the long injury lay off in late 1994.
Not only that but I think Steffi missed all of the red clay warm-up tournaments. Based on what I recall, she was a bit of a question mark going into this French Open.

At least she managed to come back later in 1995 after over two years out, but way too long to mount any real comeback in a tennis career being out of shape and rusty, and her results showed. Too bad she didn't take the Kvitova or Zverev approach to get back on tour as soon as she was physically able. But she was burned out and took too much time off.

A Steffi who was considerably better than a few years before (when Seles won so many slams). Had Seles beaten Steffi she would have had a 56-4 win/loss run. Which would have been exactly the same winning perecentage as in 1992, her best year ever. So the narrative that Seles “never was the same again“ is a blatant lie. Invented after Seles couldn‘t back it up from 1997 on (even though Steffi went down as well, due to injuries).

@@GottdieEhre ja schon , ausserdem kann es auch einfach net geint sein zudem , andererseits hätte er das mit dem rock na klar auch einfach weglassen können und auf die bandage hinweisen und btw kommentare die mancher vielleicht als solcher art einstufen würden gebe es vermutlich auch öfter als es zuweilen der fall ist bei männern , wenn es kleidungs mäßig und hinsichtlich optischer reize , reizwirkung und körper , (-gemäß) mehr wie bei frauen und wie sie auf männer wirken wäre
