I think I would enjoy shopping at all these different specialized mini food stores in Hong Kong or Tokyo than those ridiculously massive mega super markets you find in Canada and USA. It would be so nice to hope on a bus, to your favorite specialized food retailer when you are in the mood for a certain style of cooking and then just get it. No driving for 15 to 20 miles to the nearest power shopping complex, struggle to find a parking spot in a vast sea of car then spend 5 minutes walking from your car to the supermarket entrance and then end up spending way more time in the supermarket because the supermarket keeps rearranging the shelves and displays so you get lost in the store. Then you fight with your shopping cart through deep snow on your way back to your car in a parking lot half a square mile in area and hope you did not forget something. Finally, drive the 15 to 20 miles in aggressive freeway traffic back to your home. I honestly feel sorry for people who can't afford to drive, no bus service and they live in a food desert part of town. Hong Kong is enjoyable to food shop in.
