Will is absolutely right. When I was a child, I'd find myself identifying with Cory and Shawn. As a young adult going into college trying to find my place in the world, I identified mostly with Eric and Jack. And now as a father rewatching the series, I find myself Identifying with Alan. Perhaps that's what made the show so complex and induring..
Who doesn’t now get their kid to stay up late with them on special occasions, most of us parents have to work 2 jobs to maintain basic life during this democrat inflation cycle. We never get to see them just trying to pay the bill
You can tell that Ryder is often thinking from a writer’s perspective and I love it. He keeps chiming in with what I was just thinking. These three have such a great dynamic. In the first episode Danielle says Ben Savage said it wasn’t his thing, and that makes complete sense. I love this trio for this project. 👏👏👏
The audio of Ryder's son is just magical. An incredible glimpse into the absolute purity of a child's mind reacting for the first time to a show we've all known for 30 years. He sounds so precociously funny and observant.
As a teacher myself, Mr Feeny's speech is something I remind myself of on days when I feel I was just about able to keep the kids from killing each other and worry that I have not taught them anything at all. I love that Feeny mentions that he didn't remember what he learned that day, that education is a long process of learning different ideas and concepts. I teach Preschool, so, my kids are only just starting this process. But, make no mistake, they ARE starting the process.
Love the connection between Boy Meets World and Home Improvement! Loved both shows so much growing up, with Family Matters and Sabrina good follow ups.
Idk for you guys, but for me, Alan was the only father I knew and my mom was happy to watch the show with us and helping us see THAT was what we should aspire to give our kids: a good, loving, present, hard working father 🩷
Sitcom houses have two things that I have literally never seen in real life. Two staircases and a swinging kitchen door. 😂 Rider, please get a shirt made that says "That Shawn Dude." 😜
I love you all so much. Such a staple in my childhood. Rider, the thought of the movie "cabin fever" still freaks me out. I'm so glad you all are close.
The grounded joke!!! I won’t lie I must’ve never known you all started this podcast. I just finished the entire series all the way through for the first time. Being the only way to ever catch it back then was on Fridays if you missed it you missed it. This podcast just popped up after I finished the series. I am SO happy you all are doing this…NOW back to the grounded joke. I love now being an adult and seeing these nods the adults get but kids don’t. Saw the same thing with Lizzie McGuire recently.
I appreciate the guys are being open about being uncomfortable by the excessive kissing in future episodes. Thanks so much for posting these on TH-cam. Looking forward to hearing more!
Danielle is surprisingly good at doing vocal things -- whether it's mimicking Willie Garcon or sounding out the theme song! My crush on her is unwavering.
This is making me so fricken happy i needed this nostalgia and to see this kind of friendship, so happy to see you are all so close! Also chips in sandwich is def a vibe sometimes!
Please keep uploading these videos! I'm all caught up on spotify, but it' s really nice to see your reactions and what the guests look like. Love the pod!
I’m sorry I was so late to this series on Spotify. Literally grew up with these guys on Friday nights. I literally get all of their references and “humor” points. Awesome.
Literally watching this episode at the same time as watching this, duel monitor. Life Changing for Boy Meets World fans. I CANNOT wait until you three do podcasts on episodes: 407 (Singled Out),519 (Eric Hollywood), 517 (And Then There Was Shawn), 610 (In Case I Don't See You), 621 (The Psychotic Episode). These are SO funny! Will you are the BEST! Eric has carried me through a lot of depression lol his character is everything!
this channel randomly popped up on my recommended earlier today and it was an instant subscribe and was curious of when next episode would be and now this comes up. the timing was unreal
I’m not sure if you guys know this, but later in life, Willie Garson was asked to help out at an acting and singing benefit for the charity “You Gotta Believe.” It’s a charity that is right now mostly only based in New York City, but their main platform or focus is finding forever homes for teenagers and even young adults to be adopted into so they don’t age out of the foster care system without any family or support. So many kids never find a family or are passed from foster home to foster home multiple times without making any solid connections, and as soon as they are 18, they are basically sent out on their own, and they aren’t always equipped with the tools to get through life. So this charity helps those teens and even young adult find permanent, adoptive families. He absolutely loved the charity so much that he then adopted his own teenage son, who is just a fantastic young adult now. It’s so sad that he left this world far too soon, but I don’t think a lot of people know about the good works that he did on this earth, and the charity that he was such a good champion for later in his life. I’m so glad you guys had good memories of him :) if you search on TH-cam with his name and the words you gotta believe, you will see an amazing episode TH-cam episode of the show Stars in the House, which was a shell created during the pandemic to raise money for the actors fund, and help anybody in the arts get the funds that they need while not being able to work. And that episode is all about the charity, and his work that he did through it ❤
Alan tries to wake up Eric, but he's dreaming about taking a test naked. I took the "Your mom can NEVER find out about this" joke being that he emphasized after he looked at the time that there is no WAY he could get away with this. I'm not sure if the writers thought of this, but there was a missed opportunity for a joke when Alan and Mr. Feeny are talking and Mr. Feeny says "I guess we're on opposite sides of the fence here" or something along those lines. There should have been a wide shot of the two of them on each side of the fence with a silent pause, where both of them acknowledge they're literally on opposite sides of the fence. I feel it would have been a funny end to the somewhat tense scene.
This makes my heart happy that y’all are doing this pod. I really should watch all of these shows with you. Honestly I think I have them memorized 😂 love your POVs
rider literally is Shawn hunter in a lot of ways i feel like... from listening to the podcast and like yk hearing rider as himself i sometimes don't fully almost connect that they are different people because rider like Shawn are both so like deep and thoughtful and you can tell there is just so much going on in his brain at all times which of course does make sense that he is a english major i just find it so interesting.
Hard disagree on not noticing what amazing actors the older generation characters were. Even as a child watching this show, I LOVED Rusty as Alan. The scene where he shows unappreciative Cory his roots later in the show has stuck with me since I was maybe 10 or 12 watching BMW for the first time. But I thought both of the parents and Mr. Feeny were all great parent/teacher/grandfather figures, and even if I didn't immediately identify with their stories, the show did a really great job of helping children and teens my age see their side of the story and introduce the complexities of what the ensemble at large was going through when their stories wove together.
Thank you guys so much for uploading all of these to TH-cam! I have listened to every episode of the podcast since the beginning and this is such a smart idea to reach a larger audience. You guys are such a vivid part of my middle school years because I was also in sixth grade when the show started. Love everything you guys do, keep it up!
Keep the episodes coming. Best show. Growing up, I watched Saved By The Bell, Family Matters and Boy Meets Wold. Glad to see all of you out of character. Looking forward to episodes in the couple of season when you go deeper into real life! Keep Up the Great Work!
I have to say of course we all see the world in our own way but Boy Meets World was and still is a much bigger deal than Home Improvement!! I watched both shows growing up. I connected more with Boy Meets World. I still watch the show!! Love you guys!!
Ironically, Boy Meets World, while not as popular as Home Improvement in the 90s, grew in popularity in syndication, whereas Home Improvement has pretty much disappeared, with next to no one asking for it to be brought back.

You nailed it by saying they wouldn’t make a modern show like this anymore. That’s why people are so drawn to it. There was a certain reality that isn’t there anymore. It’s not JUST that life is messy and sometimes consequences are worth fun time with dad (which is a great lesson. There’s more to life than school.)… but also 😱 parents do the thing that made you. The concept that knowing your parents are doing it is shocking is a strictly modern American one. Commenting on it like that is weird, but whatever. Parents do it! And teenagers make out. That’s life. I can empathize with Rider feeling uncomfortable with his filmed kissing scenes. And I’m sure that’s why new shows attempt to be respectful to the young actors, but the sacrifice is making completely unrelatable shows for a preteen audience. (Because preteens look up to teens and think they are more mature than they really are. So 11 year olds want to watch shows about 14 year olds.) It’s like if you’re older than five, you’re not allowed to be entertained until you’re 16 and watch adult shows about murder, explicit sex, violence, and drugs. There’s a desert of content for curious kids that just want to be around what they think is adult stuff without information overload from googling it and getting more than they bargained for. I’m sure these actors would say there’s still plenty of stuff for that age range, but we’ve already established it’s not the same. So let’s dial back our outrage over parents making innuendos.

Sorry for writing too much. I remember my mom trying to teach us there's more than right and wrong, I remember us finding out the day we saw this episode that a person can be wrong and right at the same time and two adults can be both right. Depends on how you choose to see it.
Not that it's less mean, but I thought the plumber comment was more of a shot at Shawn's intelligence not necessarily his social status. Especially since his comment to Minkus is a shot at him being a suck up nerd.
Just finished watching the series with my middle three kids. Alan’s dad is super similar to how I mom. I really loved watching his parenting and thinking about his impact on the family. Eric was our favorite character, the kids liked Shawn second, but Alan was second for me 😃
So. Feeney only references that having kids was a blessing he never had, because his wife was taken from him. And Eric Had Feeny as a teacher in the 2nd season on, at least
Will is absolutely right. When I was a child, I'd find myself identifying with Cory and Shawn. As a young adult going into college trying to find my place in the world, I identified mostly with Eric and Jack. And now as a father rewatching the series, I find myself Identifying with Alan. I love the “ya do?!” 8:55 😂 I quote it all the time.
Wow the critical thinking, rationality, poise, and depth put into pulling back the layers of this wonderful show is so beautiful and appreciated.
I still stand by how badly I wish Minkus stuck around all the way through!
Biggest mistake of all time. Can we get him his own spin off!?
@@kelbrl18 Minkus Meets World NEEDS to happen!

Omg Rider's sons reactions are so impressive....
Sitcom houses have two things that I have literally never seen in real life. Two staircases and a swinging kitchen door. 😂 Rider, please get a shirt made that says "That Shawn Dude." 😜
2 staircases used to be extremely common. Tons of homes were built with a stairway into the kitchen, and a stairway into the main living/entry area.
@@burntvirtue You described the exact layout of my childhood home, which was built in the late 1960s.
I'm usually more struck by the massive living rooms. At least, they look big on screen.
I love you all so much. Such a staple in my childhood. Rider, the thought of the movie "cabin fever" still freaks me out. I'm so glad you all are close.
I love how Will's wife says Alan has two sons and Amy actually points that out with the exact same comment in Season 5 "Raging Cory."

Conspiracy Theory: the connection to Home Improvement is the reason why Rusty's character is named Alan, after Tim Allen.
