Hi! Brand new child and teen therapist here. I am still trying to nail down therapeutic techniques and language needed to get my clients to open up. Would LOVE to see a video (and worksheets) on how to get the process rolling...how to use reflections, paraphrasing, etc. with clients who have experienced trauma, grief, loss, etc. For example, I am learning to use "I wonder how that made you feel" statements vs. more directive statements like "how did that make you feel?" I could use more help with the early stages of therapy. I hope this makes sense! Thanks.
Have you seen my videos on when teens won't talk in therapy? I have several teen videos that might help and please visit my etsy shop for worksheets that may help. I took some courses on art therapy that helped me process trauma with teens and children. In addition to asking them how they felt, they can show you in their art. I ask them to tell me the story of what happened and then we both look for strengths that emerged and that helps change the narrative of the traumatic experience. Thank you for your great work with kids!
I'm watching this because emotionally I am stuck in teenagehood and I'm studying to be a counselor who wants to help teens, cause I would have benefitted from life being explained this way to me... Thank you for this perspective!
Excellent. My granddaughter has been living with us for a year now. Parents are separated and working so they are unable to keep her safe. She is 13 and most behavioral issues are in school and about interaction with her friends. Like you reported, she gets so angry or sad with them. I was happy to hear this drama is pretty common. this video was very helpful! Thank you.
Great work so far on your YT channel! It's clear you're finding what's important to your audience, and that it's owrking. I think a lot of counsellors find working with teens challenging (I certainly do). Keep up the good work.
Love your videos so much! They have been really helpful as I've started working with teens. I would love to see a video (or more than one!) on how to involve parents in the therapy process..what that looks like, different ways to include them, various roadblocks that come from either the parent and/or teen that make involving the parent more challenging, etc.
Hello, I greatly appreciate the informative and practical videos you produce. I'm inspired by your work and aspire to become a therapist, specifically for children. I currently hold a BA in psychology. Would you be willing to offer some guidance on selecting a master's program to pursue a career similar to yours? Thank you in advance."
💛Would love to see a video about working with teens via telehealth. I am struggling to build rapport and have activities that I can use online with them to break the ice. Thanks for making awesome content! It’s so helpful!
