    As a trek person of over 35 years, I recognize my people under the bad early 80's haircuts and nerd clothing of the time. The awkwardness of some is charmingly apparent. I was awkward like that as a teenager. Thank god that is gone for me.

    That lady really got it. This movie was what the original Trek fans wanted.

    Think about this: they publicly screened a workprint of a major release nearly a month before it opened. I can count the reasons they stopped doing that, starting with Harry Knowles. Kansas City had a huge connection to STAR TREK at that point (still does), having had conventions since the early '70s, so having that preview/test screening in KC made a lot of sense. They wanted the fans to get a peek and see if they actually would, as one of the people interviewed before the film speculated, tear down the theater.

      Richard Rivera how disappointed were you? I was a kid and mad that it was NOTHING like the show. Different music, no “space the final frontier”, Spock was a dirty hippie then cold, some animal was on Kirk’s head, ugly uniforms, the ENTERPRISE was a totally different , everyone acted weird, etc.

      I felt betrayed by the first trek film. I remember going home that night after the film and I sat alone in my room wondering what it was that I saw on the big screen. I actually wept. I was 15 years old and Star Trek was the world to me.
      Now as an adult I think it’s the best or at least second best after wrath of Khan who is beautiful facts it’s music it’s production it’s a moving work of art.

      Could've gone worse. For ST:TMP I skipped school, STARTED the line (that gives you an idea of when I got there, I had to "secure the position" for my friends who couldn't get there as early) & had my first blind date.
      The blind date only went marginally better than seeing STTMP.
      I did, however, meet some great people and had a great time. The local pizza chain had these special delivery trucks that would keep their pizzas warm and they had trucks on about a 15 min. rotation starting at about 11AM, just selling fresh pizzas from the truck. It's a practice they started after seeing people lining up for STAR WARS after a week. Man, it may be easier to watch all of this stuff now but it's just not as much fun.

    Wow, thanks for posting. It really brought me back to the time when I first saw it in the early 90s as a 12 year old. I actually got quite emotional watching this as this type of love and admiration for a show and the community around it is sorely missing today.

    I think we've really lost something wonderful with the death of the movie theater experience. I've never waited for a movie for hours like this, never had the theater owner come out and hand out free coke and popcorn, but man it looks like the people shared an amazing comradery before Twitter came along and destroyed people's trust in one another.

      IT's pretty 50/50 actually, was pretty shocked to find, as an adult, that my mom has always been a big sci-fi fan, even as much as I am! So strange, coming from her. She would always watch her shows in her bedroom, little did I know she was a huuge Trekkie! :D

      The director's edition was much better.

    • @DocMicrowave
      @DocMicrowave 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought so also for many years. But it grew on me.
      (The recent iterations of Trek might have something to do with that.)
      But yeah, no where near as good as Star Trek 2.
      But better than Star Trek 5, imho.

    • @OpenMawProductions
      @OpenMawProductions 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@user-michael77 No. The director's edition is terrible.
      The new sound effects are jarring, the CGI doesn't fix the real issues with the film.
      Instead of cutting little character quips and bits of humanity, they should have CUT the excessive effects down. Just a few minutes trimmed of the excess effects would help the movie so much.
      But no, let's cut out little character quips that give the film some of humanity it desperately needed.

    • @user-michael77
      @user-michael77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@OpenMawProductions Are you kidding?! The director's cut is far superior. Critics have said the director's cut ranks the film from one of the weakest to one of the strongest. Even Leonard Nimoy himself said it was much better. Many many fans agree it's the best version which is why they're calling for paramount to release it on Blu ray and 4k.
