STORYLINE
Would-be warlocks, sorcerers and ordinary, non-magical Muggles lined up outside book stores around the world on Friday, eager to get their hands on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the seventh and final volume in the boy wizard's saga.
In a now-familiar ritual that is part sales frenzy and part Halloween party, bookstores across Britain will fling open their doors at a minute past midnight on Saturday.
Harry's creator, JK Rowling, will give a midnight reading to 500 competition-winning children in the grand Victorian surroundings of London's Natural History Museum.
For many, the place to be was Waterstone's bookstore on Piccadilly in central London, a traditional hub of Pottermania.
Some passed the time by jotting predictions for the final novel, while others were busy putting on rain coats against the stormy weather.
"You can't have the last book in this amazing series to come out and you not be in the place where the home of it is", Monique Cornish, who travelled from Australia to London for the book release, told AP Television.
Jon Howells, press officer of the book store Waterstone's, explained that the spirit amongst those waiting for the book is still high despite the bad weather.
Publishers would not say whether the leaked pages were genuine.
