Came back after a year to see the progress and have to hand it you two for your incredible perseverance. You could never make me go through a boat build even if I had all the necessary skills and was paid handsomely to do it. Heck, I can't even finish a sailing ship model. Hope by this time next year you'll be nearly done if not earlier.

So much more energy now!! Each day we go into the tent is like "Ok, just a little more work on this other surface until it's ready to prime!!" Not quite the monotonous task it has been for the past few months.

Generally the spray gun is kept vertical and the nozzle is rotated to change the orientation of the spray pattern. Turning the gun sideways works while you have enough paint too. Also, the paint/primer should seem very runny compared to roll or brushing. Looks great though. Thanks for taking us along.

Hi guys I have a bit of experience refinishing gliders, i’d recommend liberally rollering on un thinned high build primer to fill pin holes dab in the bad area’s, guide coat it then block it back with 80 grit to get it smooth and then spray the high build primer, guide coat that and then block back with 320 grit and you are good for paint.

It's a far larger learning curve than I expected with painting. I think I've come to the conclusion to have an experienced friend lay the interior topcoat for us. Too many angles for me to get right on first going... And too expensive to not
YAAAYYY!!! OMG the primed areas really come together. It is starting to look like a real boat! I was wondering how you were going to round the edge of the top of the settee/counter area. The wedge was brilliant. Another little nugget that comes out of the hours and hours of planning and thinking that Matt must be doing each night. Nice job. Also, I'm super impressed with your willingness to just dive in before you know how it's going to come out. It only took a little bit of time to go from "how do we prime this?" to "we got this!" Only by willing to make a mistake and give it a go can you learn how to do it like a professional. This was such a satisfying video to watch. I'm sure it must be 100X more satisfying and gratifying for you all to get to this stage and see all the countless hours of work and prep you've done to this point all starting to really pay off. Congrats! (And also, congrats to Tucker. It's nice that you've made another friend for life in the past year+ at Kentmorr!)

The primer really changes the look. So much progress. Matt, did you ever try making a warming board out of foam and heat tape? It might be good for flat surfaces.
Terrific. The primer makes the salon and galley area look "finished." Both of you must wince whenever you hear the words "sanding" and "fairing." That seems like such a slow, painstaking, endless process. But you have done a first-rate job of it.

I'm wondering what will be the difference in fit and finish between your boat and a factory built boat? Additionally, how can a boatyard make a profit if they have to have workers spend the same number of hours doing prep work? That brings up the question of how much are you saving by doing this work yourselves? I understand wanting to build stronger and to customize, but do you REALLY think it's worth all that sanding?
Something you guys may want to take a look at since you're in the process of building your boat. At "Gone With the Wynns" "Lightning And An Electric Boat?" They show a anti lighting strike device invented by Nikola Tesla that shows some real promise. Up front it cost around $10k to install and it's still for the most part unproven but it's worth a look see. 🖖

That waste money :). Yeah, we should have - and we do know better - but I hate watching it get thrown away. In the end, I'm sure that's less wasteful than sanding our mistake back off and redoing :)

You can rent the equipment here in NZ, just requires a bit of practice. Seems strange at first, like you are hosing it on. Rog
Curious, and haven’t seen it in comments before: why have you chosen to put off the ceiling fairing till after walls? When painting houses, I always paint ceilings in white before dealing with wall repairs or painting because it helps brighten everything else so it’s easier to see what I’m doing.
My prediction is that at some point in time in the future you will have a guest on your boat and they will accidentally scratch the wall, it could be because they are carrying a super big rucksack or a scuba tank, or perhaps they just trip over, but when you see the scratch on the inside wall of your boat your guest will go overboard.
Im no painting expert, but think you are using a gravity fed gun, so you should try and keep the pot upright and index the nossle. I would also get some advice on suitable nossle/jet size appropriate to the viscosity of your paint....will save you time and money in the long run.
@@MJSailing Not familiar with that unit, sounds like a handy bit of kit......no idea on what settings or nozzle you were using , but from the look of it, I would still suggest going with a larger nozzle (maybe the largest you can get) you should be able to lay primer down faster to get an even smoother finish.......guess it will take a bit of tweeking and practice, all the best
I have done a lot of automotive painting and trim painting with sprayers and have never seen anything where the paint came out that slow. I know that stuff is thick but it still seems crazy slow. There will be imperfections, but the good thing is that you will probably be the only people that will notice them. I'm a perfectionist, but sometimes I have to remind myself that sometimes a job done good is better than a job never done perfectly.
Yeah, it really didn't flow like it did with the other gun we used. Lots of user issues - not thinned enough and fowled strainer within the cup, not enough air ). Next time will be better
Hi-build primer especially epoxy is nasty stuff to spray its super thick and chalky, even with an airless sprayer it can fowl up your filter & spray tip.

Buy a 2mm nozzle gun and use a top load bag system. You can premix bags and you can spray upside down.

When I did my cat I used an airless spray system, less overspray and more highbuild on the boat! Rog
I wasn't sure if those systems could push the thick high build. Did you have to over thin it?

The overhead is getting panels to cover the wires/lights and insulate. The fiberglass will be left bare to observe the core and glass

The 3m PPS flows any direction. That, and easy to clean is why we went with it.

The audio cuts out at 6:32 and again at 7:24 for a few seconds. That said - congrats on the progress!
