  • The MARSAL Project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No 101017171.
In this video, Dr. Hany Assasa, Senior System Engineer at Pharrowtech, presents innovative advancements in mmWave technology in the MARSAL project. Dr. Assasa showcases two groundbreaking demonstrations for fronthaul solutions for cell-free radio access networks within the O-RAN architecture.
The first demo highlights a cutting-edge 60 GHz Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) fronthaul solution. Utilizing Pharrowtech's advanced 60 GHz CMOS-based RFIC and phased antenna array combined with Renesas' RWM6050 millimeter-wave baseband modem, this system delivers an impressive throughput of 3.5 Gbps over the air.
In the second demo, Dr. Assasa introduces a prototype for a hybrid mmWave Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) fronthaul, utilizing AMD’s Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC technology. This prototype advances from the previous SISO setup by enabling simultaneous transmission and reception of multiple data streams, significantly boosting system throughput. The demonstration includes detailed insights into the hardware and software design, showcasing MIMO communication's effectiveness and the application of digital precoding to improve signal quality and performance.
This video highlights the significant progress towards next-generation mmWave-based wireless access networks, setting the stage for future innovations in this field.
