I don’t chew my cabbage twice… and you ain’t heard the last of Ernest T Bass…. 😂😆… I love it. Own the whole series and have probably watched every episode a dozen times.
Howar Morris was brilliant! This came straight off the top of his head, as did the character. Born and raised in NYC, he said he knew nothing about 'country folk' - but he nailed this NUT!
I read an interview with Howard Morris a number of years ago. He said the producers gave him the script for this and gave him six weeks to develop the character. He said he worked on the part every single day.
i use to watch these shows with my parents, this brings back great memories of great people i miss dearly!! " i dont chew my cabbage twice, and you aint heard the last of Ernest T Bass!" thank you for posting these wonderful episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Old Aunt Maria, jump in the fi-ah, Fire too hot, jump in the pot, Pot too black, jump in the crack, Crack too high, jump in the sky, Sky too blue, jump in canoe, Canoe too shallow, jump in the tallow, Tallow too soft, jump in the loft, Loft too rotten, jump in the cotton, Cotton so white she stay there all night
Now that's a song! Don't know why it didn't make Charlene weak in the knees. I like the way he tuned the empty metal jug by turning its cap! Yep, he sure was a nut, but you've got to admit Ernest T had energy, drive and verve when it came to anything he did. "I'm the man for you, Charlene, and you know it!" Just gotta love the little shit!
Ernest T. Bass was so much fun to watch.I had no idea Howard Morris created his character, such genius. Its a shame he wasn't a regular on the show, always a special treat when he was in an episode.
I Saw him(Ernist T Bass) around 15 or 16 yrs ago in a little town in Bradford Ohio,,he did the same song,, It was great,,The town had a replica of Walleys gas station,I saw the Mount Pilot girls,Thelma Lou,Ms Elly Walker,James Best(Rosco P Coltrane) 2 yrs later(which I missed, darn it) Barney was there(rip),,The show was so funny,, there will never be a show that will ever compare to this classic,,
@@solomongrant3842 , Howard worked, very well with Allan Melvin- in addition to The Andy Griffith Show, both men also worked, together on Punkin Puss & Mush Mouse, Beetle Bailey(Howard and Allan even wrote some of the scipts for Beetle Bailey), Magilla Gorilla and Waldo Kitty.
Ernest T. Bass was great for the economy of Mayberry. Everytime he came down from the mountains to Mayberry it took months for all the glass companies to replace all the glass he broke
Found this on a website --"Old Aunt Maria etc etc" was a jumping rope poem from my wife’s childhood in Dequeen, Arkansas. I can’t find the script but I think it went "Obedia jump in the fi-ah." Somehow it got to be "Old Aunt Maria" on the screen. If I had known that the show would live this long (and that I would live this long) I would’ve paid better attention. All best to you and yours, Everett Greenbaum
This is funny stuff! Anyone that doesn't like the Andy Griffith Show with Barney, Gomer, Ernest T. Bass and the rest of the cast of characters isn't American.
Ernest T. Bass, perhaps the only character able to upstage Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show. He was superb. The actor, Howard Morris, also appears in High Anxiety with Mel Brooks, btw.
Imagine that? From the Andy Griffith show I not only heard "Yo" for the first time(from Goober), but here's Ernest T doing Rap before it was called "Rap". Mayberry Hip Hop....ahead of it's time!
My buddy that I've known for 50 years & I play a game when we watch Andy: whoever can blurt out the plot as soon as the show begins wins. I love the bit where Ernest T. "tunes" the can, too funny!
Howard Morris, what a great trick voice he had! In addition to providing a lot of voices for animation he was also an accomplished film and TV director, and helmed many episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Gomer Pyle, USMC".
The actor who plated Howard T Bass, Howard Morris, was on another Andy Griffith episode, (#132 - titled Andy and Helen have their day) where he plays a TV repairman named George.
I love at the end of this when Briscoe Darlin bends over in the window and shouts Goodnight to Ernest T...then takes a pregnant pause sand shouts..."Dog gone ya!!!"

"I don't chew my cabbage twice--and you ain't heard the last of Ernest T. Bass!" LOLOLOL!
Nobody thought about it as such back then, but THAT was the first rap song.
I was thinking the same thing myself. Ernest T puts these modern Rap guys to shame.

Let's HOPE you know that Howard was a regular cast member on Sid Caesar's "Your Show Of Show's"......watch him on youtube.

The voice of Mr Peeples(Magilla Gorilla),

Why wasn't he on more often? Would have been a lot of great story lines.
No one missed an episode less they missed when he appeared.
He was the bait keeping everyone coming back for more.
Andy said they didn't want to over use the joke just like they didn't want Barney to accidentally shoot his gun every time.
Would've been nice to have a spin off show with him, like they did Gomer.
