Thank you so much for this. This is the video for me. I got a SLZB-06 to replace my Combee II stick but when I read the Z2M instructions of powering everything off and then having to repair all my 100 devices, I have just been putting it off. Finding out that I don’t need to do any of that is amazing!
Travis, once again, you are my hero! I’m doing this migration today, and this video showed up on my TH-cam front page! Bald look suits you, my brother!
I just migrated to a SLZB-06 from a Sonoff USB. I updated the SLZB-06 radio firmware to the latest 20240710 and the core to v2.3.6. I then unplugged the Sonoff then and configured Zigbee2MQTT serial port to use the SLZB-06 address. All my devices automagically appeared after Z2M restarted. No address cloning required. I'm in love with this device.
It's worth noting that zigbee2mqtt will automagically clone the ieee-address by flashing the slzb-06 with the address stored in coordination_backup.yaml at the first connection.
Great video, thank you so much for saving me the trouble to re-pair 51 zigbee devices, some not easy to access ! I just was a bit nervous when the zigbee2mqtt add-on took about 10 minutes to restart but finally all went well, the SLZB-06 is such a great little device !
Another great video. Just when I am about to receive my first SLZB-06. Without seeing this video I was going start everything from scatch. Thank you Travis. Keep up the good work.
Thanks. Always wanted to migrate to the SLZB-06 but was hesitant (and lazy) to dive into how. I didnt relish the thought I migrating 55 zigbee devices. After watching your video and seen how easy it was I, bought the SLZB and migrated over without too much issue. Only thing I found was that notwithstanding I changed in the address in the configuration portion of Zigbee2Mqtt in HA, I had to also manually edit the yaml file with same new address, as it was still pointing to the old coordinator (Zonoff) address. Changed this and bingo everything up and running. Beauty of using the POE is I can now place that coordinator in a more 'central' location which isnt necessarily tied to the server like my old USB zigbee coordinator. Thanks once again! Super easy.
@@digiblurDIY yes thanks once again. I just have being recommended view of other YT videos on the same subject and they are going through the repair process. OMG I would never have migrated if I saw those videos ;=P

Migration from a sonoff stick was flawless for my 50+ zigbee devices and now I was able to move my homeassistant instance to my proxmox cluster. I have seen one issue so far, during a switch firmware upgrade, Z2M refused to talk back to the coodinator. I had to reboot the SMLight from the web interface and restart Z2M before they would talk again.

Super video! From Sonoff USB to POE (slzb-06) with 80 devices without a single problem. Prepared the slzb-06 (IEEE, firmware updates & fixed IP), stopped the z2m container, removed the usb device from portainer stack, replaced the serial from the configuration.yaml and redeployed the container. All devices were online within a minute. No power down, no re-pairing necessary. Thanks! BTW slowly the LQI is improving since the POE adapter is in a completely different place.

Another great video. I do have a couple questions. I run HA at my house and my folks live across the street. I do have a 5.8ghz link between the houses providing network and Internet connectivity. I am currently running the Sonoff bridge at each house and run Z2M and ZHA. I would like to consolidate everything into one interface. The houses are far enough apart where connectivity becomes spotty. I am currently using the Sonoff Bridge Pro at both locations and each one is a coordinator. Is it possible to reconfigure one of these to be a router like the SLZB06?
You would need to get a Zigbee route going between two Zigbee devices between the two houses. That might be possible with 2 Zigbee routers with panel antennas. I've done it across the neighborhood before. But in the sake or reliability, if your 5.8ghz link is solid. I'd just run two SLZB-06 with two Z2M instances myself. You can't have zigbee use the wifi link between routers, that's a Thread feature though.

@meckenki no, but someone said they spoke to the developers about it and was told in about a month time they will release an update that will allow the 06M to be able to do it.
And there is no way doing it in SLZB-06M ? Everywhere is recomending "buy 06M version" But nowhere is any informatsion how to go ember firmware or how to go from SONOFF USB Dongle to SLZB-06M with mqtt
I would assume that most of them run HAOS boxes and just use ZHA as Z2M might be too confusing combined with it using mqtt that oddly offends people to install it. So they stick to what is hyped and pushed regardless of reliability or performance.

After restarting it, my custom ieee address is there, but the migration method in the video won't work for me ( zigbee2mqtt connects to the slzb-06 but won't start unless I change the pan_id in the config file. But after doing so, none of my devices connect to the slzb-06 and my zigbee list is empty.) Still trying to figure out where the problem is. Thanks for the video.

Heh, just say i triple e, much easier. Anyway I wonder how easy it is to report bugs, I notice when you change the IEEE address and the modal pops up it says "downaload" :) Just a typo.
Followed your instructions to the letter but unfortunately I have not been able to get the SLZB stick up and running. As many others I get the "Error: network commissioning timed out". Changing panId and extendedPanId didn't help. I'll plug my old SONOFF stick back in and hopefully it still works :-)
Haven't seen this issue in the conversion, might be a good idea to jump into Discord to see exactly what is causing it. If you change any of the IDs you will definitely trigger the Z2M feature to prevent it from starting.
I’ve been having all kinds of issues with Zigbee2MQTT, seems like usually after a Home Assistant update, a few to several devices just stop working, no idea why. I have found that if I go into the add on and rename the device, I usually just add a 1, then move the slider that says Update entity ID, then do it again but remove the 1 and normally it starts working again. Anyone else having these issues? I’m having it on several completely separate installs too.
Is it really odd tho? Nabu Casa decided to use SL chips in their hardware for whatever reasons, while TI has long been the "preferred" choice. Definitely my bad for buying the SLZB-06M knowing there was no solution for migrating in z2m.
I prefer the TI chipsets myself given they just have better compatibility with Z2M. I can see HA going the SL route though given their focus is ZHA. Not to really say one chip is better than the other, if I was using ZHA then I would probably go SL as well.
I wish my Generac was designed where if the power dropped it just disconnected it. Waited for the generator to start and come up then flip us over. Then start a timer where the power had to be constant for a solid 15 min before it dropped us back on the grid.

ext_pan_id:xxx. So the migration cannot be successful. Now I have to pair every device. Why. What did I do wrong? Before that I had Skyconnect
No migration path from EFR to CC2652 that I know of there.
I cannot start z2m addon. I keep getting bad gateway when trying to open z2m even tho I follow everything step by step, and edit the config in yaml file. I am migrating from a sonoff dongle e to the SLZB-06
Any error in the logs?
@digiblurDIY in the error log, it says
Error: Z2M: error while starting zigbee-herdsman
Error: z2m: Failed to start zigbee
Error: z2m: Exiting...
Error: z2m: Error : network commissioning timed out- most likely network with the same panID or extendedPanID already exists nearby.
@@digiblurDIY and when I click to open the z2m web ui. It says 502 : Bad Gateway
I've always use "Eye Triple EE" for IEEE
I am currently running firmware v2.3.6 but still haven't got the option of changing the EEE on my SLZB-06M. Can you please help with this problem and how to fix it ?
That's only available on that TI model ones. That's the EFR chipset you have.
@meckenki no, but someone said they spoke to the developers about it and was told in about a month time they will release an update that will allow the 06M to be able to do it.
Do I need to perform the same steps if I am going from SLZB-06 to SLZB-06p7. I have to write the IEEE-address from SLZB-06 to SLZB-06p7 right?
Yup, I would as devices will be looking for the other IEEE address.
And there is no way doing it in SLZB-06M ? Everywhere is recomending "buy 06M version" But nowhere is any informatsion how to go ember firmware or how to go from SONOFF USB Dongle to SLZB-06M with mqtt
I wouldn't get the 6M myself, everywhere hasn't done their research.
@@digiblurDIY why not? any specific reason?
I would assume that most of them run HAOS boxes and just use ZHA as Z2M might be too confusing combined with it using mqtt that oddly offends people to install it. So they stick to what is hyped and pushed regardless of reliability or performance.
@meckenkino, i ordered 06. Should get it tomorrow
hmn I've got a SLZB-06M running latest core v2.5.6 update, but I don't get the advance options IEEE.. any ideas or is this normal?
Yes that is normal as you have the M version which is the EFR chipset
@@digiblurDIY so no changing IEEE on EFR? or waiting for firmware update
@jeroenvandend I haven't heard anything of that feature coming to the EFR chipset model yet. Just have to go without and pair it up again
please guide, i set my slzb-06 ethernet to USB from dash board and connectd to my HA os, now if i want to configure back it to ethernet , what step i have to do, as i lost dashboard in explorer due to shifting to USB.
Did you leave the ethernet interface enabled?
@@digiblurDIY i think not, so there is the reason i could not get it on browser, another thing i am facing, my mobile app is not connecting on local network due to ssl, but at remote location, my mobile is connecting, plese help
I had to be different and get the SLZB-06M which doesn't seem to be supported for this method...
You can try it and see if devices complain, then just pair them up again.
@@digiblurDIY I tried it and couldn't get passed the changing of the IEEE Address as the latest firmware isn't for the SLZB-06M and the Advanced section isn't there...
Hi,
I also have the e dongle and am looking to buy the slzb-06m, is there a newer firmware perhaps that will let you change the address?
@@SirotkaSlo I sent mine back in the end and got the standard Sonoff Dongle
@@sykesybwoy I need to update mine to a newer FW and change from ezsp to ember
I get a "file write error" when flashing the new IEEE address on my stick, using the same firmware as the video. Then the stick freezes.
It shows this on the GUI of the SLZB-06?
If you change the PAN then that will force a pairing of all devices.
@@digiblurDIY it show in the z2m logs
@@digiblurDIY i got the same problem
@@digiblurDIY Yes, I was getting the error in the SLZB-06 GUI after changing the radio address. (Clicked "Write IEEE address" > firmware would reflash > Message would say "Update complete" > then an error message saying "file write error" > GUI would freeze, requiring unplugging the SLZB to fix) But I actually just tried again (for the 10th time) and didn't get the error. So I'll try the migration again.
Changing the PAN was the only way I could get zigbee2mqtt to start, and you're right that forcing re-pairing of devices. I've just been restoring for back-up and trying again. Thanks for the reply.
Hi - i try to do it according this video - I copy IEE but probably I have new firmware. In SLZB-06 is now for IEE compleete adress with OX without not possible to write it. I copy IEE of my old sonof dongl and update slzb-06 but when I restart zigbee2mqtt - i have errror error: z2m: Error: network commissioning timed out - most likely network with the same panId or extendedPanId already exists nearby (Error: AREQ - ZDO - stateChangeInd after 60000ms at Object.start (/app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman/src/utils/waitress.ts:59:23) at ZnpAdapterManager.beginCommissioning what can I do? when I change panID - then i will must repair all or not?
You might have to turn off all the routers if this happens.
Would you mind doing a how to video for Onju voice with PCBWay board Google mini nest swap and what to do in HA. Thanks
Heh, just say i triple e, much easier. Anyway I wonder how easy it is to report bugs, I notice when you change the IEEE address and the modal pops up it says "downaload" :) Just a typo.
Their support is pretty responsive
I'll wait till my SLZB-06 arrives some time next week and see if the typo still exists. If it does, I'll report it.
When I read the current IEEE it says unknown . Fix ?
I haven't seen that before. Did you write one before?
Followed your instructions to the letter but unfortunately I have not been able to get the SLZB stick up and running. As many others I get the "Error: network commissioning timed out". Changing panId and extendedPanId didn't help. I'll plug my old SONOFF stick back in and hopefully it still works :-)
Haven't seen this issue in the conversion, might be a good idea to jump into Discord to see exactly what is causing it. If you change any of the IDs you will definitely trigger the Z2M feature to prevent it from starting.
Try this then discord.com/servers/digiblurdiy-530777070435827722

Hi,
does this also work if I'm currently using the dongle E?
No, that is EFR based. AFIAK I know the migration path is re-pair between differing chipsets.
@@digiblurDIY I mean if I buy also the M version of the slzb-06.
Funny enough whatever core firmware I flash I cant get to see the advance section on the coordinator ..
You might have the M model

I’ve been having all kinds of issues with Zigbee2MQTT, seems like usually after a Home Assistant update, a few to several devices just stop working, no idea why. I have found that if I go into the add on and rename the device, I usually just add a 1, then move the slider that says Update entity ID, then do it again but remove the 1 and normally it starts working again. Anyone else having these issues? I’m having it on several completely separate installs too.
What MQTT container are you using and version?

Has anyone attempted to enable to bluetooth proxy feature on this unit while running Z2M?
I haven't tried it yet with the Esphome software
Said as I-Tripple E
It's pronounced as "I triple E".
I would probably screw that one up too end up calling it triple B.
Sigh. I desperately need an easy path for migrating TI to Silicon Labs.
That's an odd path... I think ZHA might be able to do it.
Had the power flick off and on five times and it reset a bunch of my smart bulbs. Stupid power company. 😢
I wish my Generac was designed where if the power dropped it just disconnected it. Waited for the generator to start and come up then flip us over. Then start a timer where the power had to be constant for a solid 15 min before it dropped us back on the grid.
@@digiblurDIY That would be nice. I have flipped my breakers off because the power was off and on too much.
Where is the kitchen sink? 🤣
IEEE - "I-triple-E"
Say i triple e instead of ieee. Shorter, easier
Just FYI, it's pronounced eye-tripple-eee.
Also, the IEEE address looks suspiciously like a 48 bit (6 byte) MAC address, where the colons denote 8-bit (1 byte) boundaries.

Why not just say I triple E. 🤷♂️
Lol I just noticed so many other comments saying the same thing 😂. Besides that though zigby's interesting finally switching over to that from Wi-Fi devices. So far so good with the POE coordinator
