Good morning. I am 100% agree with you. That movie was made without computer aided effects, scale model tracks or fictional locations. 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of "Grand Prix". Greetings from Venezuela. FORZA FERRARI! FORZA SEBASTIAN AND KIMI!
That film got me hooked on Formula 1! I was 9 years old when I first saw it in 1969, and it instantly became one of my favorite films ever. Rest In Peace Francoise Hardy 🙏
John Frankenheimer shot the movie in Cinemascope and used EVERY Cinemascope camera available worldwide to make this film. Furthermore, being a realist as a film maker, he insisted on shooting the racing scenes at racing speed rather than undercranking the cameras to speed up slower driving. The racing scenes are the result of excellent editing, combining film of the actual F1 races that year with staged driving scenes. A beautiful movie!
Interesting trivia: Jarre's theme was later emulated by George Bruns' track "Split in Two" for Disney's 1969 release, The Love Bug. Though by no means a direct copy, there are similarities between the two that cannot be ignored.
Maurice Jarre also composed the music for Doctor Zhivago. The music really makes the movie better. It’s one of the best examples of this art that mostly goes unsaid..The musical score blew me away at age 8. And still does.
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia's quotation: "Shot on location at the Grand Prix races throughout Europe, using 65mm Cinerama cameras, the film starred James Garner and Eva Marie Saint. The making was a race itself, as John Sturges and Steve McQueen planned to make a similar movie titled Day of the Champion. Due to their contract with the German Nürburgring, Frankenheimer had to turn over 27 reels shot there to Sturges. Frankenheimer was ahead in schedule anyway, and the McQueen/Sturges project was called off, while the German race track was only mentioned briefly in Grand Prix. Introducing methods of photographing high-speed auto racing that had never been seen before, mounting cameras on the cars, at full speed and putting the stars in the actual cars, instead of against rear-projections, the film was an international success and won three Oscars, for editing, sound and sound effects"
Excelente!!! una preciosura..esta película marca una época que para mi que ya no volverá..pero sigue viva en mi recuerdo...cómo la mejor época que viví..andaba por los 13 años...
Beautifil piece of music matched so well with the real-life reality of life and death, and that by living this life one experiences life so much more fully. I'll always have this simple but heart-pumping tune in my head.
I loved what MAD Magazine titled their satirical parody of this film soon after its release, "Grim Pix". If I remember right, the magazine's version was better than the film itself.
Yeah. Brian Bedford did little driving; he could barely even shift gears. That's why "Scott Stoddard" always wears a balaclava while racing: to hide the stunt driver's face. Montand & Sabato were "OK", but Montand wrecked a car and was afraid to drive fast thereafter. Garner on the other hand proved to be a competitive racing driver, went to Bob Bondurant's school, got into impromptu races with the other "real" drivers working on the movie, and took up competitive racing as a hobby.
great movie and music...i was fortunate enough to meet mario andretti and walkter hansken at the bridghampton double five hundred on long island..i think it was one of the first races for chevy chapparals... love fone
@therrydicule Im affraid you didnt understand spanish. I just have compared the movies "Grand Prix" and "Le Mans" and "This is a blood sport" is just a line said by Steve Mc Queen
@blopa3716 Was a blood sport, now it is quit safe if you consider a certain ratio. I mean, in 2009, we could name the dead in a race car rapidly: I think there is 3 of them... I know the Pardo, Carlos, the Shafer, Rich... And finaly Surtees, Henry. In the case of Surtees, a flaw in design in the wheel tether. That could have been avoided. In the case of Pardo, well the wall on the track was quit badly placed in my taste and the car not so greatly made...
Ahead of it's time. One of the greatest movies EVER.
2016 marks the 50th anniversary of "Grand Prix", a film which won three Academy Awards in 1967. Greetings from Venezuela. FORZA FERRARI!
beloved soundtrack to my teenage years in the early 70's - what a treasure

I've seen it almost 100 times....First time in a drive-in in 1968 near Quebec City... Fell in love with F1 since then..
Masterpiece of music and movie, it was my first experience in Cinerama, in 1968 in Brazil, simply unforgetable! 😢
greatest racing movie ever
Great movie! We were all blessed that it was made so well.

The film grabbed me at the opening credits looking up the tailpipe when that F1 car started.
The camera car driver was World Champion Phil Hill.

Yes. I was 9 when this came out. Jarre !!!!
The music starting at about 2:20 is really beautiful.
I'm old enough to have seen this film on an eight times twenty meter Cinerama screen with multi channel sound. I went back several times...

Brian had no license to drive during this movie. Now. That’s acting.

Cinemascope? don't you mean cinerama?
"Speed Racer" !!!
took the music from the movie interlude and simply added it to film footage, no proper cuts or anything.....not a good effort at all f minus
