Pine cone tree DIY for winter home decor and New England style Christmas

  • Making a pine cone tree with a touch of glitter. I'm not only getting ready for thanksgiving 2020, but I'm working on creating a true New England style, Traditional, Christmas this year by using a lot more natural Christmas decor, including this pine cone DIY tree with glitter.
Christmas in New England is such a special time, especially when you allow yourself to slow down so that you can really enjoy old fashioned Christmas decorations. That is what crafting helps me do... slow down.
What makes a traditional Christmas traditional? Well I will be sharing over the next two months how I'm getting ready for a 2020 Tradtional Christmas in our antique New England style home.

Floral designer here. Tip. Go get an electric pan in the thrift store. Get some glue pellets and dip the pine cones that way. Please be careful with finger tips. But make for easier work. Love pinecone trees, Garlands and wreaths.

I bought 3 pine cone trees of different sizes several years ago. I still have them! The book tree reminds me of my great grandparents and what my great grandmother did with her old Sears catalogues. They lived in the country in an old farmhouse.

The tree might be out there somewhere, but I’m guessing not because I created it as I went and just kept doing things to it I’m going to try to make a second one to see if I can duplicate what I did. 😆

Totally loved everything you did today!!! Wished I had collected smaller pine cones so I could make this tree. Since we will have a few nice days here in NH I think I may find some still! Didn't think I would like the glitter on your dried oranges but I did, especially since you used the same color glitter! Would also like to see how you made your paper tree! Thanks for such a pleasant start to my morning!!!

Love the pine one tree! My mom’s neighbor used to make these and pretty good size ones too. She put lights on them by poking the line into the styrofoam. She also put a few ornaments and she would glue it to a nice plate. I still have mine and bring it out at Christmas. I get a lot of compliments on it. The lady that made them used to sell them for charity for $50.00 dollars. I haven’t seen anyone make any this way. Everyone makes them without lights.

I prefer the pinecone tree to the book tree. While the distressed-book tree may go well in a shabby-chic setting, my personal preference is a bit more refined. But I do remember making Christmas trees out of Reader’s Digests when I was a child visiting my grandparents! We didn’t cut or distress them but we did spray paint them green and glue mini ornaments on the outside edges. Wonderful memory trigger! Thanks!

Pine cone tree is so classic, so relaxing to watch you do it. Now I have to look for tiny pinecones. The paper tree is intriguing, yes show us how Please! I made a paper wreath from old sheet music last year. You fold the pages into cones and then glue them around the center. Love it and the antique look of the old paper Would love to do a tree from an old book. Always so inspiring! How could any one give you a thumbs down, so rude!

Those came out so beautiful! My grandmother used to make all her crafts from natural elements. She used to make pune cone wreaths with the wire wreath forms. She had about 4 or 5 different types of pinecone for them. I actually made one with her but no longer have it. I absolutely love your ideas and want to copy them all. I woukd live to see a video of the last tree you showed. That looks awesome!
