Wilma was my maths teacher at school and when she told us she was on Every Second Counts we didn't believe her so the next day she brought in VHS tape of the show and the whole class got to watch it instead of our lesson!
Didn't realise what a great quiz show host Paul Daniels was, watched this and Odd One Out as a kid, he doesn't smother the contestants with overly familiar kisses, hugs and creepy touches like others used to and he's a great presenter
Amazing Gameshow used to watch this every time it was on with my mum.Lovely memories & please download more & Wipeout would be good too.RIP Paul Daniels♥️♥️
The U.K had some great UNDERATED game shows. This one, Trivial Pursuit (Tony Slattery), Consentration, All Clued Up, Lucky Ladders, Crosswits, Chain Letter and Wipeout (Paul Daniels)
Trivial Pursuit with Rory McGrath was way better at least it was played on the Triv board - The Tony Slattery version was just a straight Q&A done on the cheap
Happy memories from my childhood of this being on TV on a Saturday night. Some of the jokes seem a bit off now but it’s of it’s era, and interesting to see how times change. I thought Wilma & George were worthy winners. I wonder if they are still together and if they enjoyed their prizes!
@@sg-zd8ebThe first 2 series, a total of 29 episodes, were on Saturdays. Series 3, 4 and 5 were on Fridays. The 6th series was on Saturdays. The 7th series was on Tuesdays and final two series, 8 and 9, were on Thursdays.
EVERY... FACT... COUNTS! The entrance / archway thingy Paul Daniels appears from was built by the set designers with a regular sized man in mind... Obviously Paul is quite a lot smaller than that so they came up with '...zoom... in... thrice!" to negate it. Yeah super fun fact!
I once sent an E-mail (4 years ago) to Challenge to ask for old game shows to be shown. And even mentioned if they would consider making a second Challenge channel. Other channels have a second or as some call it a sister channel. And Challenge 2 could be dedicated to classic british gameshows.
Oh it looks extremely dated, was just thinking the same thing. Partly it's all the prizes laid out on the studio floor which look totally of their time.

Though they did showcase that creep Jimmy Saville on this episode as one of the questions.

I would like to throw Jeopardy and Keynotes into your list.

Crystal Maze, I used to love
Not forgetting Bullseye, Play Your Cards right (especially up to 1986/7), Strike it Lucky and 100%
From Ireland and loved this show as a child. We even had a Commodore 64 computer game of Every Second Counts which was surprisingly good.
Paul Daniels was a fantastic TV man
Omg! 😮😮😮😮I so remember this!! Back in the day. 😉👍
Brings back memories.
34:11 RIP Paul Daniels.
I loved that show. I’ve only searched it cus the theme tune got stuck In my head earlier 🤣
That second round! My Gawd that would not fly on today's airwaves!
Paul Daniels was a great quiz host
Donna K He’d have been good for Generation Game.
@@MrDavey2010 He would had made a good Doctor Who.
He should have done Bullseye "You're going home with your BFH that's your Bus Fare Home it's not a lot , but we know you'll like it ."
"Every Second Counts" originated in the USA, where it aired in syndication from 1984-1985 and was hosted by Bill Rafferty.
Thanks I actually didn’t know that.
I like the fact they let them win on the buzzer! So many shows nowadays would let them lose!
Barrymore on Strike It Lucky would often go through the tvs to find something for contestants who lost
Maybe they got it just in time. There is probably an adjudicator.
Quality !

Pretty sure this was never on Saturday nights. It was usually weekdays.

32:55 - How close was that?
JOHN COOPER right on the button
Hello, does anybody have any episodes of Wipeout with Paul Daniels from 1996 or 1997 please?
Loved that xx
Paul Daniel? It's Paul Daniels!! 😃

Was wondering why they don't rerun this on challenge
Yeah, time to ditch the constant 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' repeats and show something else. So many classics out there.

Good idea. Did they reply?
No. I never heard anything.
Might depend on completeness in the archives. I doubt BBC kept a full run of all of their gameshows, especially mid-80s ones
So much better than the shit 💩 nowadays.🙄
The time when it was proper day time tv!
Prince Philip was born in Corfu (Mon Repos, Corfu, to be exact)
I used to love every second counts, i can't believe how dated it looks now!

Even as a child he had those evil eyes.
There was a short lived US version hosted by bill raferty.
There was a Australian version hosted by Paul Henry.
Are George and Wilma still together or has he discovered himself?
Bring it back!! With Paddy maguiness!! Right laugh 😅
That's an idea!
@@derekporter7658 oh yeah definitely! U see! Im a secret tv producer! 🤣😆

Let the count see the second.! ... Contestants reveal yourselves! 🤣🤣
At least Paul had ditched that ridiculous syrup at this point . Lol
The Bill, BBC? Come off it love. She nearly ruined it for them
Stilted humour
Wilma is pretty
I think he did a show the year before when I was 2 1/2, but I didn’t like the clown crying. 😭🤡
Nighttime tv sorry not day.😆
