This story sounds weirdly a bit like mine. Did East Asian Studies at University, came out with a shit grade and no career opportunities. However found a scholarship to do an internship here in 2018. Loved it here (despite always being more interested in Japan) and got offered a job in marketing, jumped on it. For one year being studying with 1 on 1 a couple times a week and currently just about to start HSK4. Shit money now, but In a few years hopefully have high level Chinese and marketing skills.
I live in the USA in California. China isn't the only place where you can learn to speak Chinese. You can live in the USA and still learn to speak Chinese. There's a lot of Chinatowns in the USA. California has about sixteen Chinatowns.
Yes, you can. HSK will be evidence of your Chinese proficiency then you can get onto a degree course - universities usually stipulate what HSK level will be required. I had no undergrad Chinese degree - HSK 10 (in the old system) was required to get onto the Postgrad course
Wow that is amazing...all in 5 years! I am a Chinese person, raised in a Chinese speaking family and can speak and read decent Chinese. My native language though is English since I am borned and raised in America. I really want to do interpreting as my career, but I feel like my chinese needs to improve some more (mainly reading and writing). I had been doing a lot of research on what’s the best way to improve your chinese but there’s is just so much opinions and different methods. How did you do study specifically? I just want to know the most effective and efficient way in improving my chinese
once you have an intermediate level in Chinese do you think it's better to do study Chinese interpretation at University (or with some courses) or going to study and improve Chinese in China for one year ?
Hey, I'm English but have learnt French fluently and am studying Italian too. I would say I have an affinity for language learning and want to explore this! I would love to go to China for a year after uni to learn Mandarin. What kind of advice could you give me? And how good a level could I get up to in a year? Thanks!
I have heard good things from people who arranged homestays in China, where you live with a Chinese family and in return, you teach their kid some English. This can really accelerate your learning as you are immersed in a completely Chinese environment. If you have an affinity for language, immerse yourself, and study smart, you should be able to get HSK Intermediate within 1 year. Good luck! 加油!好好学习天天向上
I can highly recommend to study Chinese at the National Taiwan Normal University, the Tsinghua University or the Beijing Language and culture university. I did one of those homestays and it was absolutely disappointing. But I guess it depends on the organisation. Check the Chinese Scholarship Council or the Website of the NTNU for scholarships. I am also planning to make a TH-cam video on all the sources and apps that I used to learn Chinese.
I believe mandarin Chinese is the easiest foreign language to learn. look around for all those foreigners speaking it like a native in relatively short haul.
Thank you for your honesty, great video and pretty inspiring.
Thanks Lawrence, I appreciate your comment. Keep watching, more videos coming soon :) Merry Xmas and Happy New Year

😂
Can you "self study" chinese and then get a degree afterwards somehow? Or is the HSK automatically counted as a "degree"?

@@ChineseIsEasy what about going to a university and having accommodation there and having an intensive course for a year?

Uhm... HSK 10? It only goes to 6!
Ah, it looks like the system was reformed in 2010 from 11 to 6.
Joost Schuur yes mate, I took the exam in 2010. I mention in other videos it's the old exam I took
From scratch to master level in 5 years. I am laughing.
Sorry, what exactly are you laughing at? The fact that I started studying properly in 2005 and then achieved HSK level 10 and started my M.A in 2010?
@@ChineseIsEasylevel 10? I know the highest Hsk level is 6.. I'm currently studying for the 4.
