Happy Memories of owning Kwaka 250cc 3 cylander, in u.k. on a Learner licience. Passed my Bike test, was going to get a bigger bike, a Kawasaki Z1300. I met a girl, she didnt like bikes - so got a car, got rid of the bike. Should of done it the other way round :) Hey Ho, life lesson learnt!! --- ( Before February 1983, learner motorcycle riders in the UK could ride motorcycles with an engine capacity up to 250cc.)
Yep, I had a red one too. That sound! instant time travel back to 1980. Absolutely caned mine and it was a miracle I never killed myself. Great bike and I thought it was much better than the SuperDreams my friends had.
Wow, this takes me back... My first bike after moving up from a 125, mine was a metallic green colour and always had a tiny oil weep from the rocker cover giving you the slight smell of burning 20/w40 wherever you went (cheepest oil from Woolworths at the time), to this day the smell always reminds me of it. I couldn't source a round headlight for it so it ended up with a square one from a gpz305. I fell in love with Kawasaki and ended up having 3 different bikes following the Z lineage all at the same time, the Z250, a GPZ305 and a GPZ550. Spent some serious time wrenching on those bikes. Then I was going to buy a new zx9r from the showroom but the insurance was crippling (over a £1000 almost 20 years ago) and ended up being seduced by a Honda VFR (love the exhaust note) and I've spent significantly less time wrenching on bikes since.
Thanks for this, I loved mine it was the first bike I had after my test, used to be a bugger to start, luckily I lived at the top of a slope so that helped with a run start. Great days.
I had a Z250 A1 met red, fast little bike great breaks and 70+ mpg. Its a pity the oil pump was driven by a nylon cog, that killed a lot of engines when the oil supply to the top of the engine became sporadic just like mine did.
Lindo trabajo amigo mío... Excelente!!! Estoy resucitando un KZ250A igual a este. Aquí en Vzla salió a la pista el año 1986. Necesito el piñón loco del sistema de arranque, es decir el engrane que funciona entre el arranque y la cremallera... Me puedes ayudar??? Quien puede ser que lo tenga?? Agradecido por cualquier información!!! Saludos
Slow Expensive back in the day ! But I had mine sprayed Z1R Blue and in my mind it was a Z1 R ..I still have a healthy imagination at 58 sadly my missus isn't Elle Mcpherson 😨
I'm gonna check my old photo album ,cos even though I had the racing fairing on mine ,I'd swear that's my old bike from "84 ...now I gotta go search the loft !!!. I will also say that looking at the bikes on yer vids...I actually had a lot of the same or similar bikes, for example honda cb500t , quacky" 250 etc , I had some other's you woulda loved too ,like a Honda cb200t, an mz 250 , cossak 200 , honda cb175 t , all kinds of jiggery oinkery !!!. I used trade and buy bikes every 3 months ,so I always had something fresh. Just slap a micron expansion chamber on it...file out the ports...skim the head...but most importantly pull out the baffles !!!. People could hear me and my mates coming from miles away. I would always use the "Aston expressway" as my test track !!!. I was always out running the "pigs" on a regular basis around the towns and country lanes. But that was the folly of youth as I was a mere teenager. Now at 50 and a bit I just stick a nice tasty cold air intake, a cherry bomb...and a cup "o" tea !!!
The problem with the z250, is that you wanted a Kawasaki you could still buy a kh 250 rejetted with chambers they were an exciting bike. I suppose that the z250 would make a better commuter bike.
i dont know if you are still in here but i am looking for engine to this bike. Complete one. Do you have any idea from what another bike it could fit? I am from poland and we dont have many bikes like this one, but i really want to rescue mine
Yes, the Z250 Scorpion, and the GPZ 305 (Kawasaki) these were belt drive but can be swapped to chain drive. The engines should swap straight in. Try rebuilding your existing engine if you can, the parts maybe easier to obtain (ebay) Good luck
i remember i had one exactly like that....is one of the worst kawas ever ...problems everywhere ....the camshaft box is like butter ...the engine is completely univen ...alternative pistons the carbs are diff sizes tryng to cover the unbalance ...worst mistake i made when i got this bike .....and i remember at that time i could get the honda cb250 n almost for the same money........i love kawas but 1980 z250 and z200 one cylinder worst kawas ever
Always loved these bikes. Reminds me of a baby Z1000MK11
Looks brand new, takes me back to my youth.

A lovely bike you could wring out and ride 10/10ths
Nice find
@MrMexo55 It's the stock decal for this bike.
I think this one was called Z250FT in Japan.
these were the dogs bs in their day, my mate had one and it went like the clappers.
You maybe have the KZ250C Single cylinder, I had one of those

is that an aftermarket rocker cover? I've been trying to resore mine for years but can't track down any pistons
mine was blue =)
200000 miles?
What year is this? And are you sure the engine is a 250? My KZ250's engine is only half that size

Lovely! I really want one.
Building mine
