Rumors of high 1sts and top prospects for a soon-to-be 35-year-old are nuts. Every goalie that has been traded in a deal that included a 1st, was A) a late 1st and B) they were all under 30. The only exceptions where top 11 picks were used Schnieder for a 9th, and he was 24, and Varlamov 11th overall, and he was 22. Every other goalie was a package of mid-round picks and/or a- or b level prospects. Ullmark and Saros will get decent packages and possible high 1sts maybe, but they will be 4-6 years younger during the season.
I'm a caps fan and I don't get it either.... Odd choice but maybe they're hiring the staff members of cap friendly who will be able to provide statistics better ? I have no clue. Odd move for sure.
@@mr.otterpockets3854 Except capfriendly is effectively information that is public amongst all teams - I would assume that all teams have information on all other team's cap situation - they might not follow up on each individual signing, but it's not that hard to draw it up into a db - I would think that NHL would own it centrally and use it for the collective team's benefit.

It would include Vancouver’s 1st at 28 and salary retention. Basically move back 18 spots and get a starting goalie with 50% retained. Honestly if the doors close on Saros and Ulmark which is starting to seem likely I could see that trade happening
If the Devils offered 10th overall, Seamus Casey and Holtz the Flames would've accepted that weeks ago. Use some common sense before regurgitating some crap from the Canadian media or a Flames message board. Devils aren't trading any of those pieces straight up for Markstrom let alone all three.
Ullmark is going to go to Ottawa since it was rumored they would give up Chychrun, a first and another player. That's more than the Devil's will give up.

Nothing was mentioned about Ottawa or NJ. They are both in the northeast, so if his list is geographically motivated...

The one change I would like to see made in the NHL draft is changing the entry age to 20 years old. You could do it over time upping the age limit by four months a year until eventually you would make it to the better age of 20 when prospects are more likely to immediately impact the big team and less likely to bust out. Holtz (what the Devils wanted) for Markström and the 1st + Casey for Hanifin. Calgary got a 1st (not 2024) a 3rd and Miromanv from Vegas for Hanifin. Now that NJ’s 1st is 10oa and this package is again discussed it could maybe include Andersson. This would make sense for me in terms of value, however, if it would be the case, I guess we would have heard about it. I hope the Devils do not trade all these assets for Markström alone.
Screw the Capitals and their childish scheme. The NHL should mandate a new NHL run "capfriendly". I use it during the trade deadline, free agency, etc.

Not sure I’d get rid of both first round picks for Sens. I know they’re getting 1 back in that deal but the Sens have probably the worst prospects pool in all sports. They have 1 of the best 2 forward lines and 1 of the worst 3 and 4th lines. Anyways, there was a lot of excitement for the new coach and we all know how that went…they can’t do the same thing with the goalie trade.

Korpisalo is a phenomenal goalie on a bad team. Markstrom is not going to improve Ottawa. Guaranteed, if Korpisalo goes to Calgary he will exceed expectations. Ottawa should keep Korpisalo.

I’ve always felt under a hard cap era, not only should the draft rounds be cut down but there shouldn’t be a draft at all. That way the owners get the hard cap they wanted and the players aren’t “owned” by teams. The PA really dropped the ball on that opportunity.
Dumb they can't shop him he playing for leafs this year they would ask he would wave first pointless to talk and make a trade with a team then he just say no I'm staying so they would ask first and he said no you are the worst
