    As someone who also owns both of these cameras, they both offer incredible IQ. If it weren't for all of the ease of use issues I have with the M, I would use it on a lot more of my professional work. The EOS M requires you to jump through a lot of hoops (installing magic lantern, transcoding the .MVI files, potential stability issue etc) where as the BMPCC4K just works out of the box. And yet for $300 or less I'm blown away by what you can do with it.

      I have an M and would love to make it work. But I can’t get the complete workflow done 😅

      Thanks to developers recently we got Crop Mood for Eos M, it is very stable and easy to use.

      @@ivandj707now if i could just somehow get the card to write at 86mb/s instead of 67mb/s. 5.2k at 14bit lossless requires at least that much or even 12bit lossless

    Brilliant test and you made them match up extremely well, my Brother! Many Thanks, Corey. 🙏🏾 Blessings

    Thanks for this test.
    To my eye, the results look equal enough for my purposes and needs (making video clips to accompany instrumental music). It tells me that if I want to pursue filmmaking beyond my current amateur level I could still get a decent foothold with the EOS M and don't need to prioritize upgrading until and if I decide to hire myself out as a filmmaker.
    So, yes. This was a really helpful comparison and I appreciate the time you put into making it.

      Glad it was helpful!! Yeah, I think in most use cases with enough time, prep, and adequate setup, the EOS M can definitely hold it's own against cameras like the P4K. The images look close enough that in some instances it would be hard to tell the difference sometimes.

    The Black Magic is certainly a better camera for professional work, but it's truly amazing how good a shot can be made with a camera that literally fits in your pocket.

    For me instantly the EOS M is better and more cinematic, for a camera that small wow definitely the winner, when setup and used carefully the EOS M delivers excellent video

    • @reelfilmmaking101
      @reelfilmmaking101  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah! I think with the right setup and prep, the EOS M can deliver that truly filmic/cinematic look that so many people are looking for.

      @bern047 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me the small size of the EOS M as a RAW cine camera is amazing, you could use it candidly or in places a large cine camera would be very difficult to film with. The lenses you could use with the EOS M are fantastic including the Canon FD range and the Olympus Zuiko range, just a simple adapter required and you have really nice vintage cine on lenses the EOS M @@reelfilmmaking101

    Can I ask you a question about Magic Lantern?
    It's eos m and it's crop mode.
    The recording stop appears even when shooting in 4K, let alone 5.2K.
    The module is
    crop_rec, mlv_lite, mlv_play, mlv_snd, sd_uhs turned on
    Movie settings are
    crop mode - 4.8k 1x3
    The raw video option is
    Resolution - 1600X2040
    Aspect ratio - 2.35:1
    Data format - 12-bit
    Preview - real time
    Preview toggle - half-shutter
    Kill Global Draw - ON
    SD Overclock 240Mhz
    It's about
    The memory uses Samsung Evo Plus 256 A2 V30 micro SD.
    As soon as you take a picture, it turns red.
    After 2 seconds of recording, movie recording stops.
    Is there any suspected problem??

    • @ryanleethomas
      @ryanleethomas ปีที่แล้ว

      Either lower your overclocking or change to a card with a faster read/write speed.

    • @ivandj707
      @ivandj707 ปีที่แล้ว

      Micro SD cards do not work well (try sd Sandisk extreme pro 200mb/s), also lower the resolution( keep under 2000), and do not overexpose shot (close aperture or increase shutter speed).

      I had the same problems until chose 4.4k 1x3. My card is SAMSUNG EVO Plus w/SD Adaptor | 256GB | Micro SDXC | Up-to 130MB/s. Now record is "green" always.

    To me it's bmpc4k because it's clearer clearer on your face when playing guitar. Eos is great can't really tell but I can. It depends on what kind of shot you looking for but nmpc4k is what I would go for in this situation eos is probably good for that action motion blur. Ijs

    • @KungfuJoeProductions

      Typo I tried cleaner and clearer

    • @reelfilmmaking101
      @reelfilmmaking101  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the bmpcc4k is definitely the naturally sharper image straight out of camera, but the eos m still has a pleasing but naturally softer looking image.

    Being an EOS man I hate to admit it, but the detail and the skin tone were noticeably better on the 4k, and not just a little. With the end of Canon support for the M and used prices on the 4k dropping with BM's new release I am daydreaming lately about adding a 4k to my options. This video reinforced that idea a bit.

    • @reelfilmmaking101
      @reelfilmmaking101  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I do love my EOS M, but I totally agree with your feelings here. I do feel like both cameras pair fairly well together image wise, and thanks to adapters most lenses you can adapt to the EOS M also be adapted to the BMPCC4K.

    • @PavelNebo
      @PavelNebo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its not only skin tones, its overall usability, quality, stability. I had bmpcc4k, and i miss this camera, i tryed a lot of different cameras, but bmpcc4k is in my heart forever. Now i'm trying to get good results with croop mood on eos m, but it has a lot of limitations and issues, i'm very close to give up

    im curious how did you get them to match so well

    • @reelfilmmaking101
      @reelfilmmaking101  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did some basic color correction to both camera's footage adjusting from a rec709 conversion, then adjusted both images in davinci resolve to get them closer to a true match.

    • @mathegaming4415
      @mathegaming4415 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a color match feature in davinci resolve called "shot match to this clip"

  • @cryora

    You can probably match them, but shooting with EOS M by itself doesn't look nearly as good as when you include shots from the Black Magic.

    How could it be that 5.2k is 1736x2214 actual resolution? It's close to full hd more than to 4k. A bit confusing thing i often notice in EOS M reviews.

      It's Anamorphic so it will the stretched to the aspect ratio you use. For example UHD 16:9 which is 1280x2160 on the EOS will be stretched to 3840x2160.
      In the past Anamorphic was the standard for widescreen video even in the early HD era, for example HDV camcorders recorded in a 4:3 1440x1080 resolution even in 16:9 mode

      You can also raise the resolution in MLV app when shooting raw . Very little pixelation and noise.
