Jak And Daxter Can Come Back, But Not How You Want

  • Jak and Daxter have been long dormant. Naughty Dog should do something about it. Its up in the air as to whether or not the mascot platformers of the PlayStation 2 era all have a place on modern consoles. Suckerpunch recently set the record straight that Sly Cooper was not coming back anytime soon, Crash Bandicoot 4 didn't sell as expected and a Spyro sequel is nowhere to be found. But Jak and Daxter have the groundwork to be reworked into something more modern that all demographics can enjoy. And the fanbase is hungry as is made obvious by the recent native Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy native PC port by OpenGoal

    Give me a Jak game with the artstyle of Final Fantasy. But please, don’t change the controls and the movement from the OG trilogy because Jak is one of the most fun to control characters in a 3D platformer.
    Edit: I’ve changed my mind about the artstyle. I think something inline with Arcane mixed with the old style would absolutely be perfect for this series. Jak and Daxter already has that steampunk and cyberpunk element to it, so it wouldn’t be totally out of place for the series to adapt Arcane’s artstyle.

    You gotta understand this is kinda heartbreaking for some of us to hear. First of all, making Jak and Daxter realistic would not make them more "expressive" than having them in a cartoony style. Cartoon animation is all about expression. That being said, I agree that your ideas would result in much higher sales and success, and it would be much more "impressive" than another cartoony Jak game. However, that's just the way the soulless video game industry works; it says nothing about the actual intangible value of any of the games. Those that say big studios like Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog are "above" making direct sequels to their old properties are insulting both those studios' pasts and those studios' fans.
    Remember when that old trailer for the sequel to Beyond Good and Evil came out? The _gritty and realistic_ one? Most of the comments were talking about how amazing it looked, but I think it looked like crap. Maybe it would be a good game, but it shouldn't be what fans want because of how disloyal it would have been to the original. Imagine if Twilight Princess had an alcoholic photorealistic Link who shouted "sHiT!" every time he took damage. Don't get me wrong: I agree with you that Jak & Daxter is more flexible because of how much it changed tones over the course of its trilogy, but maybe this will give an impression of how I feel about this kind of reboot.
    Not to mention the gaming market is already saturated with hyper-realistic games already, and no AAA developer has the balls to experiment with art styles a la Into the Spider-Verse and get "cartoony" in new innovative ways that new technology allows.
    But again, your ideas would sell a new Jak game. For whatever that's worth, at the end of the day.

    • @Johny40Se7en
      @Johny40Se7en ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Completely agreed. Art style and good animation are part and parcel. They go hand in hand. One without the either is soulless. If there was a new one with the kind of hybridization of art styles, it would definitely be worth it leaning more towards cartoony. It fits Jak & Daxter like a glove. But give it the same quirky treatment as the original had.
      I mean, in the original, Jak was non vocal, but the expressions on his face said enough. And then you had Daxter as the mouthy comic relief just during the cutscenes, which was wicked 😅😛

    My gameplay "wish list" for a new J&D game are as such:
    More eco-based abilities: while Lost Frontier was TERRIBLE, I did like the concept of giving Jak powers based on the different colored ecos.
    More complex Gun-Fu: have the gunplay augment Jak's martial arts ability or vice-versa. We got a small taste of that with his blaster burst fire after a punch and the infamous reflector spin kick, give the the other guns some synergy with his melee.
    Actual RPG leveling: story-lock upgrades would still be present, but I would love for us to have a way to upgrade and or modify the abilities we have. Imagine modifying Dark Jak's Dark Bomb between a concentrated linear shockwave or the standard circular pattern. Or giving Light Jak's shield an actual parry function.
    From a story "wish list" I've pondered on this idea for years admittingly:
    Jak and the crew are investigating a region away from Haven and Spargus because Kira and Samos detected a surge of eco in that direction. Midway through their investigation, J&D get separated from the team and they stumble upon a hidden civilization where more traditional eco sages and eco monks still exist. The civilization's warriors are also capable of channeling eco-based abilities and the stronger ones are even able to use either a natural dark or light mode. Jak gets kidnapped because he never fought against other eco-channelers before, and the civilization is curious how a "savage from Haven" is able to channel eco. Jak stands trial before the civ's 6 leaders who are elder sages of each eco color. The Light Sage in particular takes interest in Jak when she finds Jak's necklace on his person. Some arguing ensues, Jak reveals his true name and mentions Damos as his father, the Light Sage is shocked and reveals herself as Jak's mother. Jak is released and the early game is essentially him learning about the Eco civ, actually being mentored in how to better use his eco powers, and learn more about his parents.
    History of the Eco Civ: when the metalhead invasion occurred, the other three eco sages from PCL managed to save to a decent amount of villagers with their powers. The sages taught able-bodied villagers how to channel eco in order to defend themselves from the metalheads and have been keeping themselves hidden to avoid extinction.
    Jak's mother's history. Years ago Jak's mother and her cohort were in the outskirts of the Eco Civ practicing their abilities. The training was interrupted when a smoking Crimson Guard dropship crashed nearby. When they went to investigate they found a young Damos (who was the crowned prince of Haven at the time) pulling extricating members of his squad including a younger Praxis and Vego. Jak's mom and her cohort reluctantly helped out and brought the squadron to their city, the first time outsiders ever entered after generations, and they all curiously nursed the outsiders back to health. Damos and Jak's mom spent a lot of time together out of mutual curiosity. Damos infored Jak's mother that they were undergoing a recon mission to find Kor's nest but were ambushed by metalheads. They then shared stories about each other's pasts and the similarities and differences of their respective cultures. Praxis took special interest with the Eco civ's channeling abilities which is what inspired the Dark Soldier program, and Vego found the civ 'uncultured' as he believed only the precursors should use Eco.
    When Damos and his squad were back to full health, they returned to Haven with Jak's mother and small group of sages as representatives. Damo's father was grateful for his son's safe return and an alliance was in the process of negotiation. Years later, Damos becomes King and takes Jak's mother as his queen with Jak being born some time later. Praxis and Vego execute their plan to overthrow Damos and kidnap Jak, Jak's mother thought both her husband and her son were killed and fled back home.

It took years for the next entry to come out (The last one released on ps3), plus they've already remastered the trilogy. What they would need to do is release the Jak game but take the number off of it and give it an actual title, introduce the events from the previous games via the council interrogation (Gol and Maya, the dark eco warrior project, Kor, how Jak came to meet Damos, and the dark markers. Interesting video, on the topic of RaC I've noticed that despite all the proper shifts and leaps in graphics/art direction, general gameplay and mechanical refinement there's still a good chunk of people in the fanbase who will never budge on their stance that the PS2 games are the best (mostly due to preference in humor and characterization). If JaD (a dormant IP for well over a decade) made a change to more realism with a complete change in gameplay along with the storytelling and characters for a comeback game this late just for mass appeal idk how far that will go to reach a new audience while being a worthwhile enough risk of upsetting every nostalgic fan, it's one of the reasons why ND dropped their 2010 Jak project.
    The RaC 2016 game despite being faithful to the series in a lot of ways is still a mixed bag for some due to the massive change in characterization compared to the PS2 original. From this perspective it makes me think that the best option would be to properly reimagine TPL and see how many people would be interested in a colorful modern looking JaD game with similar core gameplay and decide if the franchise has a future from there.

    • @Repaduski
      @Repaduski  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah I get that, But I don't think Jak needs to change the way they tell stories. Jak should still be fun and hilarious. I think it just needs to grow its art style a bit. and then bring the gameplay into 2022 ND. then it could be an amazing adjustment. Ratchet has done an overall great job of making changes where needed. It sells well as a result. We need to remember the Nostalgic fan would be the lesser part of the audience. always is. 7 remake for example was mostly played by brand new fans because they adapted it for what people expect in 2020

    One of the reasons why i loved the game was because of how expresive everything was, from the faces to the body language that was shown even in gameplay (if you punch stuff or start jumping Daxter will go everywhere like a potato sack and i always found that incredibly funny) but the problem with realism is exactly that, you can't make someone look that real and break so many anatomy and physics factors in the process. While on paper the idea can sound great, i can't imagine an almost human looking person doing a double jump that doesn't seems ridiculous in a bad way.
    Now, with this I'm not saying that the graphics and design of the game shouldn't change, i would really like that, but if the thing Naughty Dog chooses is realism then i honestly don't want it.

    The almost Zelda-like fantasy characters in this gloomy sci-fi dystopia with an early 2000s edge gave Jak such a unique identity, atmosphere and world. That new art style would have totally betrayed this.
    There's an interesting mix of Japanese and western influences in the design and art style, and the gameplay was a perfect mix of light-hearted platformer and GTA-like mission-based sandbox. All this stuff is what makes Jak stand out, and it's not Jak without it

    I think Sly 5 could still work just as well as R&C in the modern era. The issue comes down to whether the studio would want to continue the story that Sanzaru Games left with 4 (aka Sly being lost in time) or reboot the series in some way. With time traveling there's a lot of potential for wild concepts and stories, and with Sly being a crafty thief, new gadgets and gameplay ideas could shake up the experience in new ways. The comic book style is essential to Sly Cooper's identity so I don't think they'd go for a crazy realistic style the way that the Jak 4 concept art was leaning more towards. I'd love something more like how Crash 4 or even the new R&C games have retained the cartoony essence. Copium aside, I think with the current tech landscape and how people are scrounging to get PS5s, I don't think we're gonna get a game in the series any time soon, the series has never really been a high seller even with it's cult following. Sad to say, Sony has no incentive to develop another Sly project and SP aren't interested in making a sequel either.

    For as much as I'd love the Jak and Dax franchise to make comeback, and maybe have the old game get the faithful remake treatment (the same way Crash and Spyro did). I wouldn't want modern day Naughty Dog touching the series with a ten foot pole, no.
    The people behind the series are long gone and the culture over at the studio has changed. A lot. I can't see them making a game that's even remotely faithful to the original source, without injecting modern day sensibilities and ideologies to the mix.
    Strip the original's and a possible sequel away from some of the more risqué jokes, insinuations and/or funny interactions between characters, and it just wouldn't be the same.
    Now, when it comes to the gameplay. Well, not only do I have no faith in those who design modern day games, I fear the devs just wouldn't understand why Jack II and 3 played the way they did. I'm talking about the mixture of combat/platforming and the game's unique aiming system that requires no strafing and works stupidly well, alongside simple melee attacks, sliding punches, rolling, jump dive and more. The game's had their own identity, and again, strip these games away from that, turning them into whackier third person shooters, and at that point, they might as well just call it generic something else.
    As for visuals, it obviously depends on an individual's taste. I know I wouldn't want a real "human like" Jak and friends, we can get plenty of that elsewhere... I'd much rather get the mixture of Anime/Cartoon look they went with for the originals, but perfected.

So many people are making it seem like after TLOU Part 2, that they're irredeemable or something. I do remember Naughty Dog claiming they're dedicated to more realistic titles though. a Jak and Daxter with like the graphics of say, the Lion King Live action film (well maybe not that.) would be a sight to behold. The appeal to do so would probably be a lot riskier but what God of War showed me is that it may not actually matter as much if the majority of the audience aren't familiar with the original games. Great games speak for themselves, and the GOW reboot raked in so many new fans like me who went and played the original trilogy afterwards. If you take Jak and Daxter and make it a pseudo photo realistic duck and cover shooter you haven't made Jak and Daxter you have made a game I can go onto steam and find 400 pages of. So much of the series charm comes from its art and animation style. The goofy expressions, the exaggerated slap stick violence, The characters stretching and warping during certain animations, the bright and vibrant worlds and colors that wonderfully use contrast and really make their environments pop. I agree the gameplay can do with some updating the sort of verity adventure platformer genre doesn't really have the same appeal these days, but making it a duck and cover shooter isn't really the answer. I think something more akin to Ratchet and Clank or something like a third person movement shooter. The art style can for sure survive though. Ratchet and Clank didn't have to sacrifice its art style to survive and the success of games like Hades which are overwhelming praised for their visuals prove that more cartooney and stylized art styles are still very much welcome to a modern audience.

    I think changing up the art style some to have more realistic elements (environments and enemies mainly) and a little bit of a darker tone (the game already deals with a lot of heavy topics, so I don't think it's a big leap). Have a somewhat realistic setting, like a Las Vegas or a Miami type environment.
    Pit sly against a trope-y villain and have him do heists in a casino, or corrupt cops, or even a cartel type group. Have a mostly open world with the ability to sabotage the antagonist's properties, maybe take them over a la Saints Row, Mafia, etc. Make sure everything aligns morally as he goes, he could even have a no killing credo like most Batman's.
    Tone down the acrobatics to an extent, it doesn't even have to be by changing Sly, it could simply be providing less verticality in level designs. This makes it feel a little more grounded in reality, but even with that, bed still going to be fast and agile, he's a raccoon after all.

The second and third instalment was a cartoonish competitor to GTA’s success, with the familiarity of Ratchet and Clank, and the platformer style. It hit broad audiences at the time. If they were to remake the trilogy with continuations, it would have to take a lot of the current popular styles and be a hybrid like the originals for the modern period of gaming today. @@djjamz2887 You do have a point, thing is the circumstances were *much* different in 2010-15 due to Insomniac wanting to experiment with the series and the movie also being in development during that time. On top of this outside of the Resistance trilogy (2006-2011) and sunset overdrive (2014) the rest of their games were much smaller in scope compared to RaC. Now however it's *much* different (starting particularly in 2018) and this on top of 2 more huge Marvel licensed projects in development and a new multiplayer IP that just started pre-production recently.
      Logically going by the development schedule SM2 is 2023, Wolverine will most likely follow 2024 and the multiplayer project could be 2025, by the time SM2 wraps up development and let's say that team starts working on a RA sequel by mid 2023 (best case scenario) that'll be most likely be another 3ish years of development and that'll put it at 2026. 9th gen will definitely last longer than 7th or 8th but not by much and I can see 10th starting in 2029 or 2030. It's just realistically with all the other stuff Insomniac is working on I can't see more than just one more new game in the series this decade (which I'm totally fine with).
      It's clear to me that there's been a shift in priorities with what games they're currently making and even though RaC is still generally successful I can't blame them due to how long they've been consistently working on the series, especially with it celebrating its 20th anniversary in a couple of months lol.

Who really is to say how long they will keep working both theses franchises. But I don't see them going away soon, until a few more other franchises start coming in or the people behind theses games stops enjoying making the games. And with how many people in Insomniac are long time fans of RaC now working on theses games and enjoyed making Rift Apart, I think they would want to continue for more, just at a slower place than the PS2 and PS3 era.

    Another platformer that is due for a remake is I-ninja. This game didn't sell well and was a very overlooked game. A remake could benefit from this as not a whole lot of people played it or heard of it. It was developed by Argonaut games. They developed the original Donkey Kong game before Rare took over.
    Since I don't see the original getting a remaster on newer platforms any time soon, and since no new fans would go back to play the old game, I think it's safe for a remake to get a new audience. With Argonaut games closing their doors in 2009 and Namco just buying them out, this is an IP that needs to come to the modern era. There's a possibility of a spiritual successor. But no new developments have came out. So we're have to wait.
    Anyways in your last video on The Last of us remake, I posted a comment and you said you were going to reread it and give a better answer. So I figured you can give your two cents here.

      As for your comment here, I had to look that game up. I remember the box art from the GameCube days. I have never played it but i would see it in blockbuster. Looking at the footage it looks like ratchet and clank vibes. The environments and OST. gameplay not as much. minus the rail grinds etc. I'm sure it could get a remaster one day if the demand is there. But I worry if we don't even have all the Ratchet, and Sly Cooper games available for 2 consoles idk what the cards hold for I-Ninja

      @@Repaduski Yeah. I recon it was a tough week. Glad you responded though. But yeah. I can see that. I-ninja does have that Rachet and Clank vibe. It borrows from the game while having it's own identity. It was actually more inspired by Mario 64 as you have a hub world area and you can do any mission in any order you see fit.
      You earn grades to progress and get a higher tier belt. The higher rank you are, the more grades it requires to get the next belt. But you might have to retread previously and missions in the other hub worlds with an additional challenge. It can get grindy. And I ain't talking about Destiny levels of grindy. If you want to get the purple belt which is maximum level, you have to redo all missions with an added challenge.
      Some of these challenges vary from time trials, to finding and killing every single enemy in the mission, to finding red coins. There will also be a NPC in each hub world that contains a bonus challenge too.
      That'll in total take you 10-11 hours of full Completionist. If you just want to finish the game, it'll round out to 5 hours of play time. But for what it's worth, it's still a solid game. I'd recommend checking it out. If you don't have the tech or you want another way to play it, You can emulate it with a ROM. It'll save you the trouble of having to buy it at an extremely high price.

    I think what hurt a lot of those games are situational. Sly 4 had a different developer, Crash had kind of been devalued with Crash of the Titans, and Spyro was linked to Skylanders for a long time...
    Similarly, as a Ratchet and Clank fan, the series took a nosedive when it got put on ps3. So I think that the loss of Dan Johnson did affect the development heavily. Ratchet and Clank was all about the corporations and was really leaning into the gunplay with games like Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked (where it really hit it's stride imo).
    Jak was plagued with being turned into Last of Us, and being discarded for Uncharted and Last of Us. It also had a bit of an identity crisis. The first game was a nice little platformer, then it was a nice edgy fantasy-cyberpunk GTA style game for two games and we had the gloriousness that was Jak X.
    But I think that's also a problem between Sony's western developers and Sony Japan. For the Japanese audience Ratchet had these enormous eyebrows and cutesy look... and Jak had his goatee taken away (because goatees are villainous in every country apparently). You kind of see that with Lost Frontier. I think the big problems with what happened with Jak and Ratchet is that the developers or Sony rather wanted to appeal to a broader market which led to them maybe leaning towards the adventure genre (Uncharted from Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones-Crystal Skull), the superhero craze (Infamous) and the Zombie craze (House of the Dead games at every arcade, Zombieland, World War Z etc)...
    I just think Sly 4 would have been better off like how Ratchet Deadlocked and Jak X are remembered since those games are made by their original developers. I know developers are a huge concern for some gamers like when I was younger I remember when people were talking about how Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer would take turns on Call of Duty games... and later on KH gamers would be worried about KH3 being floaty because I think a director for BBS or some other game was going to be in charge.
    Which also reminds me of another PS series, Twisted Metal, that game series got derailed with T3 and T4, then we had Black, then Head-On and then TW2012. Which were all pretty solid games, but the big problem was that they either should have went with a sequel to head on or a sequel to Black. Ik Lost was a sequel to Black, but it should have just been called Black 2 from jump

    Improved graphics would of course be inevitable if they ever decided to come back to the Jak and Daxter series. However, I think they should stick to the original art style. Put it on par with the latest Ratchet and Clank games in terms of visuals and you won’t have any trouble finding a new audience while at the same time making old fans happy, or at the very least satisfied.
    The gameplay, however, will depend on who you ask. I didn’t play Uncharted for the shooting, to put it mildly. So to suggest that Jak and Daxter go that route would leave me disappointed. I want a good mixture of platforming with fun* gunplay and melee combat.
    I remember from an interview that when Naughty Dog tried to “modernize” Jak and Daxter in 2010, they took a step back and realized “that’s not Jak and Daxter,” so they moved on to something else.
    I feel like if you make the series almost unrecognizable in terms of visuals and gameplay, you’re better off just making a completely different series.

    • @Repaduski

    I don't trust Naughty Dog to tackle Jak and Daxter in any way.
    Not after Last of Us 2.

  • @FraserSouris
    @FraserSouris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Personally, I'm a lot less convinced on the success of Jak returning for a variety of reasons.
    Firstly, Naughty Dog themselves have spoken why Jak was never as popular as its predecessor Crash, or its successors Uncharted and TLOU. They "threw the kitchen sink at Jak" in terms of design. His aesthetic was a mix of Western Animation and Anime that didn't really stand out in either market like Crash did. And starting from Jak 2, the gameplay had open world carjacking from GTA3, gunplay from Ratchet and Clank, hoverboarding based on Tony Hawk etc. A consequence of this approach meant that none of its individual systems were as fleshed out as the games it was emulating. Its open world sandbox wasn't as dynamic or emergent as GTA 3. Its shooting wasn't as deep as Ratchet's. And its hoverboarding sections were quite few and far between. This also diluted the time you spend platforming. So it becomes harder for a fan of GTA, Ratchet or Tony Hawk to really get into the Jak games like they would their other games. Essentially, the Jak games often struggled with their own identity, trying to be any game other than themselves. This made it harder for them to stick in the public conciousness.
    Secondly, this makes it hard to continue the series in a satisfying way especially all this time later.
    For one, the best selling game in the Jak series is still Jak 1. It outsold both Jak 2 and 3 combined. If you make a new Jak game, do you model it after Jak 1? If so, you upset the Jak 2 and 3 fans waiting for "their game" or a continuation of Jak. If you model it like Jak 2 and 3 as this collection of disparate gameplay styles trying to be fit together, you'd have to both essentially design the gameplay for 3-4 other games in a satisfying way into a single game. You can't get by anymore with the basics anymore. Like, it's hard to go back to GTA3 with its terrible shooting controls. So a follow up to Jak 2 and 3 would need both great shooting controls, and great open world systems, and great systems for guns, hoverboarding etc. And then you'd have to sell this game. Which is even harder. Most modern Naughty Dog fans and gamers in general would likely be turned off by the lack of focus. And the built in Jak 2 and 3 fanbase isn't exactly massive enough to carry the game.
    If you scrap everything and opt for a more realistic style to "modernize" the series, well, you upset both the old fans, and have no guarantee new fans would replace them given how wacky Jak still is.
    The only way, I could see a new Jak game working is if it's explicitly designed like a throwback. Like, you know how we have media calling back to the design and aesthetic of the 80's? Make Jak 4 a 2000's throwback in both design and aesthetic and tone. This would have a few advantages. For one, it could appeal to a wider nostalgia than just Jak players. It could be presented like a "greatest hits of the things you loved from the PS2" so even people who didn't play Jak but liked the PS2 may become interested. If you want, the game could even be cheeky and meta about this, turning some of its weaknesses into strengths. Like, if the hoverboarding is sparse, you could have Daxter lampshade that with "so? we rarely use the hoverboard. I guess that's just how we always did it back in the day".
    It has its problems, you'd still need to design systems with some degree of modern polish and continue the story, but of all ideas, I feel this has the best chance of working. As opposed to just making a sequel (which is risky because of the split fanbase and sales) or a realistic reboot (ignores the old fans altogether).

      @Repaduski  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I kind of disagree but I appreciate the thoughtful response, I don’t think they should model is off of any of the Jak games. I think it should use Uncharted as a base gameplay wise and then just crank it up to 12. Sci-fi fun. Double jumps, long rolls, dashes etc. i think the game needs to be a reboot essentially. Visually somewhere close to uncharted 4 while still having a bit of that fantasy edge to it. Like a final fantasy art style, I think in order to make jak mainstream you should pickup the pieces and make it brand new

    • @FraserSouris
      @FraserSouris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Repaduski
      That might be the riskiest option tho.
      Like, would old Jak fans be down with the Jak games moving away from the design of the old games? And would new players be interested in that?
      Plus, Uncharted's appeal is also that it tries to at least be somewhat realistic in both aesthetics and gameplay while still being somewhat lightheared. If you design a new Jak to be a cranked up Uncharted, would the players translate over?
      Consider the following analogy, let's say Naughty Dog announce Uncharted 5, and it's modelled off the Last of Us now. So no more fun lighthearted adventuring. The tone is much more serious and intense. Combat is now much bloody and brutal. Characters die now. Movement is limited to whatever Ellie could do so no fancy climbing. But the game still has supernatural yetis and cities at points.
      Uncharted fans are likely not going to be happy with the changes. They would prefer the more lighthearted and cool approach. And even people who like TLOU's realism may be put off by the yetis and secret cities. You risk making a game neither the old or new players would accept.
      I feel that would be the challenge such a new Jak game could face.

    I'm not seeing "it can only be Naughty Dog" at all. If anything, Naughty Dog really can't do Jak and Daxter games any more. They tried and failed, and the people that made Jak great are gone.

      @@Repaduski Yes, I understood that.

    Insomniac could do it too. I feel like they would treat their beloved "frenemy" with the respect it deserves. In the latest Ratchet and Clank title they even had models for Jak and Daxter along with Sly. They've been making platformers for years, and with their latest installment of the Spider-Man series, they could easily implement a bit of realism to the series while also maintaining the exaggerated character movements that Jak has to offer. I feel like if Naughty Dog isn't going to do it, the first studio they should ask is Insomniac.

    The reason crash 4 didnt sell so well is because the market was saturated. 99% of the ppl who bought it either played the original trilogy more than a decade ago or never played it at all. So when you release the remastered version it is basically 3 brand new games in one package which people can play and try to 100% for months. Then you release a brand new game 3 years later and dont even market it that well. Idk about you guys but if i were a new customer I'd rather buy a trilogy that came out in 2017 and has stood the test od time than a 2020 game that uses the same visuals. They shouldve started selling the anniversary bundle for 100$ as soon as crash 4 came out.
