Hi Ton, Check to make sure you are using blends (not fillets). I noticed when I used fillet that the surface didn't always trim properly and I was left with a collection of surfaces (zero volume). Also, make sure your geometry is able to accommodate the size of your blends, you may need to use smaller blends or adjust the geometry conditions. I hope this helps. Thanks for the kind words. :)
Thanks for Rhino tutorial, not many(interesting surface) tutorials out here for free! Made Rhino tutorial about modeling Lumia 920 if someone wants to see, part1 out :)
If you want to check where your object is "open" search for Naked Edges. Surface -> Edge Tools -> Show Edges (select Naked Edges on the new window) Make Sure you joined every surface with each other. If some surface doesn't join, is out of tolerances. This might be caused for several reasons. Check for Naked Edges and see what's going on.
If you want to create bottles ready for production, try using - for profile sketch - arcs with filleted corners since label sticking machine can stick label only on continual (equal radius value) surface. with that done you have maximum accuracy for label area since you can enter value for the radius and make it same along the sweep...
You make it look so easy man, thank you so much for your efforts. I have a question, when you used the blend tools did you blend the two edges of different surfaces or the surfaces themselves?
Hello vertanux1 I must say you have a good way of explaining everything, however I constantly encounter a problem, when analyzing the volume (14:20) it keeps saying it's a non closed object. I did the entire tutorial about 10 times but I keep getting the same message. Is there a way to check were the problem occurs?
Great tutorial, thanks! I want to put some text onto the curved surface. Like a brand name. How would I do that? I thought about creating the text as curves and then projecting those onto the surface, but that didn't work out. Thanks again!
The projection technique should work perfectly but only if you have placed them correctly. I have shown the correct way in one of my tutorials but I don't know which one !LOL Your comment is a year old,but incase you haven't figured it out still..then check it out!
Hi vertanux1. 1st of all I'll start off by saying that this is an amazing tutorial. Everything was so simple to understand. But I have a problem. My version of the rhino doesn't have the option to blend edges. How else do I get to blend them?

When you do a tutorial on surfacing "making smooth surfaces" you might want to do it with an example that actually HAS high-quality curves and not some random waviness (handle, inside) that's resulting in crooked fillets. And if you DO, then maybe straighten out your curves and rebuild your surfaces from those...
Hi F.D. Thank you for the suggestions. I'm not trying to teach how to make a Michelangelo in 22 minutes. This video is titled, "Surfacing BASICS for beginners".

pretty difficult to say without seeing your construction.
But try using fillet edges, fillet surface etc.
it is true .. but please use the lines with the control points. however good job ;)
this programme dont work with cotation ??

what is the text book you are working from.
guide located at vertanux1 com
you dont need to extrude the curves to split oblject.
best way does not exist, i think:). But if you put the line in top(right etc.)wiev on the object then you can split it same way as with extrusion.
record with an earphone mic is even better
It's a 20 minute tutorial dude, not Michelangelo's David... ;)
