To be honest, anyone with eyes and a sliver of game knowledge would know what happened. Bayo's body flashed as she back flipped, activating Witch Time as it was on frame 2-3 but it doesn't activate anyways because why not. At this point, it's just willful ignorance towards Bayo because of the babyrage that consumed Sm4sh.
TackyZombay HD witch time comes out on frame 7 and lasts roughly twice as long as Marth’s (counting the bat’s within). May not sound like much but it is surprising how easy it is to fail witch time because how long it actually takes to come out. Patch 3.1.0 (bless the buffs) at least made her witch time slightly longer and it is much easier to land. Unfortunately that would not have saved him from that forward air.

Especially in Ultimate where it encourages aggressive and reactive playstyles, having a counter that comes out later than most Jabs is unrewarding to say the least. Sure it lasts long, but Bat Within is a risky gimmick and unpredictable even for Bayo most of the time.

As well her specials (side-b and up-b) got noticably reduced landing lag. I'd say she's a lot better, her main problem now is kill moves (but at least her improved witch time helps a little bit with the slow smash attacks). Will it help her be viable? I dunno, its up to the pros to find that out, they found out how to still kill off the top after all (as of ver 2.0.0).

As a bayo main(with ultimate being my first smash game) i have to say something. I enjoy playing this character, i love her style, her emotes, her combos. But i think it's quite clear that it's quite impossible to compete in tournaments with this character. I mean, did you see the bayo vs charizard moment? F throw did not kill at 220. And he almost died because of opponent's rage. And that witch time against inkling....man, this is sad. I understand that she might've been broken in 4(which i didn't experience), but damn, are there really only two choices? Can't she just be balanced insted of either broken or bad?
I agree with your points, fellow Bayo main. She has been getting a bit of buffs in some patches, like I think some hit boxes have been fixed and Witch Time/Bat Within improved, her landing lag after performing combos in midair has also been reduced. Even then, I don't think she has been buffed in a substantial way to allow her to compete well in tournaments, killing with her is still incredibly hard. Her Wicked Weaves have weird hit boxes and tons of end lag to them, whiffing just one can spell your doom if your percent is fairly high (Bayo's a lightweight after all). Same deal with Witch Time, its fatal for you if you fail it. Her other notorious method of killing is if you can pull off a fully charged Bullet Climax while your opponent is trying to get back to the stage, but even then it becomes fairly predictable. Forward throw depends on your opponent's DI and weight, but for it to actually start killing your opponent has to be at least at 170% and extremely close to the ledge. Back Air really is her only good killing move, but you'll be throwing it so much that your opponent will know that they have to shield it.
@@chrisjackson6149 I'm pretty sure Bayo is a featherweight on par with Kirby's weight, so that makes it even worse. She needs a total rehaul on her frame data. Having a counter that slow on a combo-centric character with bait and punish mechanics is unacceptable. She already has zero shield pressure and almost no kill options. The least she can have is frame data on par with Wolf.

It wasn’t a bad idea, he would’ve killed Bayo. He was also 200% so he was going to die soon anyway, he might as well throw out big moves. There just isn’t enough reward in flamethrower at that point.
