- Today I bring you the first video on TH-cam about the newly released Eonon GA7165 stereo. Eonon has replaced the GA6165 with this new GA7165. In this video I unbox and install the stereo in my BMW E90. The installation process is identical to the GA6165, but I go into more depth and detail in this video compared to my previous installation video. After I get the stereo all set up and I have a bit of time to use it I will post a full review of the stereo. Immediately after using it for less than a day now I can tell you the GA7165 is remarkably better than the GA6165.

I have a premium speakers on my e90, if I buy this radio system do I lose any of the quality of my speakers?
no, they have equilizers and sound system settings in built
Note- if your factory radio harness doesn’t have 8 speaker wires you will probably need a optical decoder, cheapest one I found is 114 dollars

Note:
1. Please keep power supply in stable and blackout is not allowed.
2. Please do not take out the SD card before the upgrade is done
3. It will take about 10 minutes to finish upgrade, thank you for your time.
Upgrade steps:
1. Please download the software.
2. Unzip the files you downloaded, copy the 6 files into a formatted SD card(FAT32 format);
3. Insert the SD card into GPS card slot;
4. Enter : Settings->Car settings-->system update;
5. The head unit will start to update after selecting “extSD”.
6. The head unit will automatically reboot after finishing update. Please set the head unit according to the following steps after finishing rebooting.
Steps: Settings--->Car settings--->Reset factory(password:7890)
7. The head unit will automatically reboot after finishing “Reset factory”. Please set the “Model choose”to
Select E90(5.3.19,HZ,CONFIG,NODVD,1Din FZ,Rohm37xxx,TEF668X) according to the following steps when the reboot is completed.
STEPS:
Settings--->Car settings--->Extra settings(password:123456)--->Model choose--->Select E90(5.3.19,HZ,CONFIG,NODVD,1Din FZ,Rohm37xxx,TEF668X)

Wondering if you can tell me if you have any issues with yours. I have continuous issues with spotify crashing and stopping music.. and getting good audio for spotify as the different modes for the head unit (navi,music,video etc..) seem to change audio settings or play the other media in the background.
Also pisses me off how it starts on radio everytime but not on saved chanel.. just static until i change it

I too use spotify for my music, but I've never had the app crash. As far as it going to radio every time...that doesn't happen to me either. I would suggest quitting the radio app from the background (along with any other apps you aren't using).

Hello there. Thanks for this video. My E90 has no sound after installing the one of chinese radio from aliexpress. Apparently my car has some fiber optics? 🤯 As you can tell am not a car person. Do you have any insight?

I guess I have to to the same process with my E92 cause the original stereo system sucks ass literaly! The only issue I have where the hell I'm going to put the PDC button? Does the bracket which comes with the radio have button holes or there's gonna be some custom stuff to find place to put the PDC button?

Perhaps a little note. After connecting the cables, first see if the radio switches on, before installing it.

I only have a minor issue, and that’s because my Eonon system beeps during start up and is completely fine afterwards.

I apologize, but I've never encountered a beeping from my stereo. Potentially factory reset the stereo?

If you don't plug in the blue wire for the antenna you get better reception I don't know why but it doesn't sound like shit anymore

I see that your quadlock has the fiber optic , will it work without Most audio adapter for the fiber optic ? I am thinking on buying a Xtrons for my BMW 320D E90 '06 that has the BMW Professional 0663 when checked the vin so i believe this is not the Hifi sound system or the Logic 7 that needs the Most audio adapter , correct me if i am wrong , my quadlock does have the 8 speaker wires
I didn’t have fiber optic- you’ll need an adapter if you’ve got fiber optic

I went with Avin because Xtrons and Eonon seem to be shitty chinese products that are not compatible with the cars intricate system. They also seem to be made from the same manufacturer. Removing the connector was a pain in the ass and my xtrons unit just blew out my #14 (10 amp) fuse.
I have yet to blow a fuse with either of my Eonon stereos

I'm not sure, I haven't had that issue.
You'll need to buy the fiber optic female loop. Can be found for about $8 on amazon
Thanks for the install video! I used it to install a GA8165A. Does your car get an SOS error after installing this head unit? Mine beeps rapidly and displays an SOS error every time I start the car up.
I have not had any SOS errors...
Hi, i have issues with AUX in cable not working, used to work with original BMW stereo. i have completed uninstalled and reinstalled ensuring all the cables are correctly connected, but when i click on AUX app, i get no sound through, just a blank screen showing no video input. Eonon are not sure why? have you had this issue before?

Did you have problems getting the microphone to plug in? My plug only goes halfway in and it doesn’t tighten up. It’s like the connector isn’t deep enough
I did not encounter that issue. That's strange.
Only one question, does the bottom part of the climate control unit stick out on the sides farther than it does in its original position. Every video has 2 things in common bad lighting and no side views.
It doesn’t stick out if you trim properly
Awesome video, but can you explain how you opened the compartment below the steering wheel, and also the hatch in the roof where you put the microphone? I haven't tried opening them yet but I'd just thought I'd ask so I don't end up destroying it in the process
The compartment below the steering wheel was a few torx screws, and the roof part is two clips... use a plastic pry tool and pry in front of each little light.

Is there a reason you didn’t screw the botttom screws in on the bracket. I just read my manual and I’m like damn I should have done that
I notice you didn't install the bottom 2 screws that hold the metal frame (behind the HVAC) into the dashboard as per the installation guide.
Any reason for that?

Huh...I never knew two screws belonged there. I didn't get any other screws other than the two upper screws.
Same here. Also the Dynavin doesnt use the lower 2 screws so maybe they aren't really necessary.

Any idea if the Eonon unit is compatible with the Alpine retrofit sound upgrade? I'm currently using the sound system with the bmw professional radio unit, for which I just changed a few speakers. I didn't change anything connecting to the radio unit.
And does the Eonon unit fit nice and tight? A friend of mine has one for his A3 and you can push it upwards slightly so it's not sitting in tight and snug (if you know what I mean).
And lastly, do you notice a buzzing noise, probably relating to grounding? The A3 has this problem too.

I ended up getting a GA5165. The radio antenna looks a lil different. It has a small radio signal amp and a red ACC tap wire. Do I need to tap that red wire to keep preset settings and avoid batt drain? Thanks!
I have not needed that wire...but it is up to you.
Yeah, I ended up not connecting the amp to the blue/ant wire, and it works fine.
The clips/plugs that connect to the back of the hvac unit block the bottom from going in correctly. Any ideas? thanks!
Nvm just kept moving wires back there. It's a tad better now
those screws at the top with the orange tape are to secure the CD/DVD unit so that it doesn't brake while shipping

I have 2010 my heated seat buttons are in different areas but I have a panel of buttons on the bottom one which of like the down hill assist ? Anyone else have that

I do not have that...the only buttons I had on my lower panel were the two seat heater buttons.
We have similar cars my is a 330xi but it is a E90 so this stereo should work but I don't get any sound out of my speakers I already contended the seller and waiting for a reason. I was just wondering if you know anything I could do or if you had a similar problem?
That's very strange...others have reported this issue too, but I have yet to find an issue.
Sorry JD another question. I assume you don't get the stock chime anymore. Would that apply to only the doors or all chimes such as warnings and such things? Have you ever heard of a chime retention adapter, I believe is made by Metra? It's name and model is AXXESS LC-BMRC-01. I ordered and received it but the Eonon has a plug that goes straight to the factory plug. This adapter is kind of the same thing. It has a plug to plug to factory harness but the other end is wires to connect to the stereo, basically for aftermarket head units that need to be wired in. Not sure how or if this would work with the Eonon.
I'm honestly not sure either...only one way to find out!

I have a 06 335i with the hifi upgrade I also have navigation and it’s laggy I wanna update and I’m also having a amp issue I took out my deck and noticed that their are a lot more wires and a fiber optic connection and a fan mounted on the back would this stereo work for me ?

Bought the same exact stereo and did almost exactly the same install a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately I had to return it, I don't know of it was my particular unit that I received that wasn't playing right or was the because I have a subwoofer installed tapped into the stock amp with a line in converter. I was get snow like feedback in the audio whenever the car was on, when it was off it played perfectly. So again I don't know what the problem was but I didn't have the patience, I also tried to hook up to the sub woofer outs that came with the stereo and it didn't work! If anyone knows what may have been the problem feel free to comment, I'm thinking I just got a defective one n might buy another...

Does your radio still work? I got a GA9165B last week and the radio function stopped-everything else works works fine.

Hey! I have not installed the backup camera yet, but the screen gets black and music stops when i put the car in reverse, is there any way to prevent this from happening?
Maybe disable the backup camera in settings? I'm not sure
How's it going, haven't seen any videos on the latest models so great video! I got the GA7150 all set up and what not for my 2003 325i.. do you know how to root Marshmallow 6.0.1?? It's seems like I need to trust unknown sources etc in order for kingo root to work but I can't seem to find those security options within the eonon settings in order to trust third party apk's.. or would you know if there's even a root for it yet?
Oh there is without a doubt a root for it...you just need to figure out how to allow unknown sources. Try scrolling down when the system alerts you it is an unknown source and check off/agree to whatever is necessary. Good luck!

Hi, i noticed there s a protrusion at the bottom after the unit into E90. would u mind show a zoom in at that part? I would like to know how bad it can be / or may be its acceptable before I purchase the unit. Can u comment on it? Thanks.
This protrusion is minimal and can be eliminated by further trimming the unit.
After installing the same Ga7165...the canbus start beeping when the car key is on, turn on the car and the bip, bip sound is gone, turn off the car...the bi, bip sound is back until release the key......any idea what I did wrong? thanks 2009 Bmw 328i Sedan Base
Luigi Left That beeping is to remind you to take your key and not forget it in the car. However it should only beep when the drivers door is open.

As with the other 7165 install on youtube I noticed you didn't secure the A/C control panel bracket as shown in the install manual. Have you had any issues with rattling when driving?

What holds me back are the negative posts (reviews) on the Eonon company....
Lets see what your user experience brings up.
There are TONS of negative posts of Eonon's previous version (GA6165), but this new GA7165 is a TREMENDOUS improvement. They improved storage and more importantly RAM. The GA7165 is an excellent choice in my opinion.
What was your original system that you had? Hi-Fi or Logic 7? I know I have read about people have nightmares putting a new deck in with the Logic 7. Thanks
I didn't have either previously...I just had the very basic BMW Professional AM/FM radio.
Do you know how to turn down the Bluetooth calling volume? When I get a phone call, it doesn't matter what volume my car stereo is on, it'll stop the music and ring at the loudest possible volume which scares the crap out of me every time lol.
Jeez! Maybe on the phone itself? Turn down your ringer?
JD Cars finally figured it out. The navigation volume on the unit is the same as the Bluetooth ringtone volume so I lowered it to mid and it's better now.
Has anyone found a solution for the radio not keeping its settings like last station recall and same with bluetooth, it won't keep numbers i dialed.
I know this is like 6 month old comment but still.
the reason for the radio not remembering the stations and numbers is because it needs to be connected to the battery or fuse box. i you go with the fuse box, you need to find the one that doesn't loos power after 20min (standard on BMW).
Question is probably stupid but i was wondering if the mods you do to your 328i would work on the 335i, the cosmetic and and the interior mods.
Yes, they should all work on the 335!
Wonder is'nt possible to take both cabels, mic and gps antenna at the same side when you installing??

Nice video, your installation tutorial on GA 6165 was really helpfull! I bought mine GA7165 few weeks ago and it's really awesome stereo, just few things which I noticed againts stock bmw stereo:
1) Radio reception strenght - many ppl have this issue with eonon, solution for me was not to plug in ANT+ cable (blue one), the
signal is 100% better now, but still not same as stock bmw radio. I wrote about this to eonon and they said me that it's
because stereo recieving many signals, like gps, etc, I don't know but this sounds like bul*hit to me... (my phone has no
problem with this :-D ).
2) Last radio station memory - when I leav eonon without power (engine off) for few minutes, the radio has my last played
station in memory so radio automatically starts playing last station, but if I leav him for few hours without power eonon
doesn't remember it. (it's in preset menu, but what i get after i start is crackling :-( )
About eonon ash tray, it has really cheap look (my opinion) and eonon has only black ones so for people with silver trims, it's
not looking good. I decide to do not install it, I lose my parking sensor button (i wasn't using him anyway). If someone
thinking about same solution, do not unplug panel!!!, otherwise the car will not start :-D, just place him behind stereo.

Yeah it's a shame the radio memory doesn't last longer...maybe eonon can improve this in the future.

Yes it does. The sound will change when you are backing up and you won't hear the last eternal "beep" at the end when you are about to hit an obstacle. You will just hear it as a recurrent beeping sound. Also, when you are backing up, the music for some reason will stop completely.
Hi. Very good your video was very useful. I have to ask you two questions to see if these problems happen to you.
1) joining the two cables that say antenna (+ ANT and ANT) does not receive any AM radio station. Loose, everything works fine.
2) the equipment does not turn off when I remove the key, I must manually turn it off. The red wire that comes out of the can-bus and reaches the ACC leg of the eonon is always with current (in high state 12v) even removing the key. Leaving it long time off the car and I open a door the equipment turns on without the last memorization of the radio stations and at very high volume. Of the stand of eonon even without solutions. Can the bus be damaged? Or is it firmware problem?
And the yellow wire for about 20 minutes is out of power. Should I connect directly to the battery?

Hey JDcars,i followed your videos and got the touch screen unit installed, i realized the bmw sound is gone because i don't have the oem head unit anymore but could you possibly find a code/setting to tune the andriod unit to play bmw sounds(key pluged in sound)
Yeah that is definitely a possibility...just need to figure out how to code that in!
Vincent Kui I just installed mine yesterday and I noticed that also. I posted a video on it. The loud beeping is really annoying. I messaged eonon about it so hopefully they can come up with a solution soon.

The fitment actually depends on how well you trim the climate control.

when you installed it did you have problems with your mic working correctly? did you disconect the original mic from the top center council and did you get a SOS error message
I connect thru Bluetooth but I can hear them thru speakers perfectly but they hear me with static

Just noticed, since I installed my ga7165, my righthand door speaker isn't playing. Have anyone experienced this? Perhaps i have not plugged in the cables correctly?

Hey my friend, i have same unit and tried to install front view camera. I checked box on "front camera" and when I put reverse the rear view camera works. Then it switches to front camera but there is a big triangle which means "no signal". Where should I connect front view camera? I connected to "Video In". Cheers

JD Cars Yes, with that app it works. But it doesn't work if I select on setting "front camera" and after I put on Reverse and then on Drive, when it switches to front camera doesn't have any signal. The input is another one, not "Video In". Damn...

I recently subscribed to your channel after watching a few of your informative videos JD...Great Videos! I have a question regarding the Ashtray for your E90. I viewed your latest video of your Eonon GA7165 Review and caught that you would no longer need to install the Ashtray for the Seat Warmer Controller, but if you wanted the controls available you needed the replacement Ashtray with the cut out for the controls, as I saw you still had. My question---How do you go about installing the replacement Ashtray? Do you have a video from your channel that demonstrates that installation or can you recommend a video that shows that installation. While the latest Eonon GA7165 includes the capacity for controlling the seat warmers, I'd really like the look of yours including the controls and would wish to complete mine the same way. Thanks in advance for any advise or info you can provide and keep up the great work on the videos!
I have yet to film or upload a video about the installation, but it is on the list. I will probably film that video and edit it this weekend. The replacement is pretty straight forward, it requires the removal of 4 screws and the transferring of the 12v and seat warmer buttons.

hey to add the diagnostic mode what Bluetooth obd2 do you need to get for the e90? I have same car. they said to get the *elm327* what's your thoughts?

One thing I would suggest is putting some electrical tape around the unused connectors to prevent rattles and also on the antenna connectors to prevent them working loose.
