  • Adrian Bejan is most recently the author of "Design in Nature: How the Constructal Law Governs Evolution in Biology, Physics, Technology, and Social Organization." He is also a professor of engineering at Duke University. Bejan pioneered numerous original methods in science, including the constructal law of design and evolution in nature, entropy generation minimization, scale analysis of convection, heatlines and masslines, transition to turbulence, and designed porous media. He is listed among the top 100 most widely cited engineering authors in the world (all disciplines, all countries, living and deceased). Bejan has published 530 peer-reviewed articles and 24 books and has been awarded 16 doctorates Honoris Causa from universities in 11 countries.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

The constructal law of design in nature developed by Professor Adrian Bejan is wonderful and splendid contribution in natural science and engineering. It shows a paradigm that is universally applicable in sciences,Technology and humanity sciences. This law predicts natural design across river basin, tree network, animal design. It emphasize in electronics, fuel cell, turbulence,Heat and Mass Transfer etc.It is a beautiful range of endeavors.

physics or underststanding models are tools. you can build or destroy whith the same tool, and what you do is acording your opinion

A well-proportioned, epiphanic exposition as always from Adrian Bejan.
For more on how this new law of physics is related to a design law of beauty and optimisation, and on how we might perhaps design a more sustainable rule of law for human society using education and technology, please refer to the Asynsis principle Wordpress, Quora and Asynsis Sustopia Initiative Facebook pages.

Published 12/12/12... The book is fantastic, and I am surprised that there is not much more interest and comment to be found here. To the gentleman below, the size/lifespan correlation you deem untrue actually charts out to be very true. There are anomalies, however the line made by charting fleas on one end and mycorrhizal matrices on the other (along with aspen groves and whales) is very much in line with the predictions of the constructal law.

Reading the book now and it brought me to this video. It's 2019 and people are still not talking about it. I find it weird. There are so many applications!

does it apply to mountain streams, first they head straight down , , spreading , ere they come together again

My question is, when a "machine" accomplishes more than one flow, how do you reconcile them for prediction of design? For example, free flow of human capital across the world should expedite intellectual development, but might present barriers to the flow (deployment and operation) of defense measures through the very same properties. So then what would constructal flow predict about the net evolution of that machine?

So isn't 1.6 the golden ratio? Isn't this an expansion on the golden ratio that we know for Eucled's time. Fascinating stuff

if this apply to the economy, we should understand that free market would be the answer to keep it alive, but are we sure we want that beast alive? perpetual growth on a limited resources planet is a very near problem to be solved.

PLEASE HELP! iv now an overwhelming urge and a burning desire to somehow thank evolution for eventually designing design ! and just `look` at the results!and all so neat and tidy (where its not been discovered/explored,subdued/ tampered with/ harmed/changed etc in persuit of `progress` . . .Its/he/she caused so much amazing beauty and variety and form in/on/around this incredible unique sphere that i feel i could burst or something if i cant just simply say thanks to someone or something ! its\his\her (sorry but im not sure who or what to credit it to ) use of/selection of the options of using particular colours from the options/chances of the use/choice/options (sorry but im not sure how to put it without sounding daft and or illiterate) of millions of shades and textures, not to mention iridescensce and foms and styles of movement (by the way shouldnt there at least be a few abominations, if thats how i can put it , still in existence that look a bit hideous and move very strangely or somethin?) . .and all the apparent result of form and function pretty much arriving at the time as this age of reason . . , beautiful things animate and inanimate deeply move me especially when my spirits need lifting! i now want to dedicate my life to evolutions vindication, instead of a creators, and connect wih its super educated high preists if that could ever be possible.... i feel that this is highly unlikely when i take into concideration my self confessed lack of a "proper" education due to my low social standing that are a direct result of my inherited econmic difficulties.if i denounce my old idea of a creator similarly to the way hitler wanted people to in the past would that somehow fill this need to offer thanks? maybe i cd pray to him/her/it or something . also if i wait long enough will this new direction help me attain dignity/self respect? apologies for these (what seems like)ramblings but i need clear answers (but only if u care about this anguish ridden human being)

i'm sorry to say that larger animals do not live longer- parrots live from 70 to 140 years, dogs live around 17 years, totoise 70 above, a chicken-14, a cow 20yrs
