If the Maximals were part of continuity yet, one of them would have tranformed into a bear, to punch Optimus Prime.
(The Maximals were an offset of the Decepticons after either Skorpinok Mk I or Skorpinok Mk II noticed that the Autobots seemed to benefit from animal mascots such as humans, dogs and cats, and opted to try to infuse this power into their robot designs... they were at odds with the Autobots for a bit--but eventually calmed down on that mark, as they also were at odds with the Decepticons as well)
Just think of a reboot/timeline, where Megatron does that... possibly not even Megatron Mk III in his Purple Dinosaur form.
Megatron's definition of bare hands:
-A rock projectile.
-His fusion cannon.
-Basically a lightsaber.
-That pistol.
-A living shield that wouldn't get out of the way.

Neither did Orson Wells who was voicing Unicron. He could not have given less of a shit, admitting he didn't even know the name of the character he was playing and describing them as "A big toy that attacks other toys" and weirdly, it kinda made his performance better, giving Unicron this weary pomposity, like, everything is so far beneith him that it takes genuine effort for him to acknowledge any of it

I don't think there's anything wrong with this sort of product placement - as well as being upfront about what's going on, actually exhibiting the features of the product and showing what it can do is functional and informative and fair to me.

(Let's not ignore that Starscream kept true to his promise to bring about the most glorious awesome to the Decepticons and Cybertron--as that coronation is the pinnacle of Glory. There is no way to have kept that up, and Galvitron actually did him a favour. As it was left on the HIGHEST NOTE POSSIBLE)

I hate the bayverse just as much as the next TF fan, but one thing the cinematic Optimus Prime had that the WfC series on Netflix did well too was kind of made him relatable. Bayverse Prime had internal struggles which is mainly capitalized in AoE. He’s torn between doing the right thing and doing what’s best for himself and his Autobots. Especially after all he’s done for humanity. The WfC series takes a little different take by giving Optimus things he wants, like having a relationship with Elita, but can never have due to his ultimate destiny as Leader of the Autobots. These divergences in character for Prime make him more relatable then his typical self-sacrificing, duty-bound and righteous self we’re all use to seeing. It gives us the image that with all the wisdom the Matrix gives him he’s still only one bot. It implies that even the greatest have their weakest moments and that’s okay.

or it could be because we think this cover version is complete shit.... the voice is way too low and the guitar is way off key. That wasn't even the worst thing Hot Rod did. After Optimus died 2 additional times, Hot Rod simply left and took the Matrix of Leadership with him. The war wasn't over, but he just walks out on it alongside Kup and Blur. He told Arcee she couldn't come, though. It was male-bots only.
Let's note that Optimus made 2 critical mistakes BEFORE Hot Rod got there. 1) He deliberately engaged in a duel during a major battle that had already killed any of his troops. 2) He talked ("I thought that you were made of sterner stuff!") rather than finishing off Megatron. The last was what let Megatron reach for the blaster that caused Hot Rod to intervene.
Also, Hot Rod's actions weren't about ego they were about aiding his commander during the battle. "I've got to help Prime!"
