The espresso machines filter holder looks like it is meant to be used with the capsules from underneath. A bit sad to see how much single-use plastics some teams use even in the Bus where they could have a dishwasher or anything like that.
What about the tens of thousands of water bottles that each grand tour team throws away each year?
@@Grunge_Cycling That is good marketing. When I visit a race here in the liège area, I always look out to collect bottles. Until now I wasn't successful because others already did the same. Bottles are not a big problem. But gel packages etc. are, because they won't get collected. But some races already forbid to litter in certain areas, that's a good way, but not perfect. But on the road it is difficult to substitute single-use plastics. Not every rider is as dedicated as adam hansen and puts the gels in gel-bootle. In the Buses on the other hand they could use unpacked sugar cubes, fresh milk instead of these small packages etc. etc.
I guess the health of the riders takes priority over everything else.
Being a traditional espresso machine kind of guy, I can't imagine the mess that would develop around that espresso machine with all the riders, mechanics, coaches, guests, VIPs, etc. coming in to use it all the time. If they were using loose ground coffee, they would have to have somebody dedicated to cleaning the machine and the area several times a day over the course of 3 VERY busy weeks.
In a scenario like this, where so much time and resource is invested, I think it is acceptable to use the disposable pods. You want the bus to be as nice and as clean and as accommodating as possible during the course of the race to help keep the rider's and the staff's spirits up.
@@chriscoppersmith7762 you have a point. but there are teams that use ground coffee. I think it's trek-segafredo and I think it is because segafredo doesn't produce pods. You have to clean it, but if you place it near the water tap it is only a quick whipe with a wet towel.

Diet soda is what, a can of chemicals? Not my cup of tea and besides, if you want bubbles, just go for carbonated water with some fruit flavor or something.
Carbonated water: Dihydrogen Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide and Carbonic Acid, plus trace amounts of Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Sulphate and more, nah, no chemicals there. Literally everything you eat and drink is chemicals. You are chemicals. Get over it.

Oh God... a squillion dollar espresso machine, fueled not by freshly ground coffee, but pods. Nice one GCN, you follow up "How to Make the Perfect Coffee" with "How to Murder Coffee".
I wonder if there's a way to do away with so much single-use plastic, especially the water bottles. And I wonder if there is anything in that bus that James didn't touch with his germy, virus-laden fingers. Just kidding, but I loved how he talked about the importance of hygiene and then proceeded to touch everyone's food, drinks and clothing. My poor germ-phobic wife would have a batch of kittens.
Unless you are sick, there is nothing wrong with that. Exposing body to germs keeps body more prepared for an actual outbreak.

GCN wil never be the same without Matt. His charisma and natural humor are tough to match. But I am warming up to the "new" guys. Taken me a while. They're not all that new anymore.
