I really have been enjoying this series. The way you take us on the full experience, not just showing endless riding really makes me want to get on the bike and hit the hills for a few days.

Came across one of your episodes earlier today. Watched a few minutes and quickly realized I needed to go back to Episode 1 to get the full effect....glad I did! I just picked up a '21 R1250 GSA about 5 months ago. I've done several multi-day trips but they were all hotel stays. I'm now convinced I need to up my game, swap out the road tires on the bike, grab some new camping supplies and hit the road. Nicely done, Sterling, all of it. The cinematography, editing, short-but-sweet episodes; it all just makes me want to get out there. Bravo.

Sterling, I’m loving the adventures. I’m goi g to be heartbroken when this series comes to an end. I really do aspire to have the quality of video that you have. In time it’ll come, I’m sure.
But these adventures you take, this series, it’s a dream of mine. I just love the exploring and scenery that you’re experiencing right now. As a GS rider myself, you e given me inspiration and goals to achieve. Don’t stop what you’re doing.

Sterling I just got my stainless steel Zebra “Billy Pot”, went with a bigger 16cm / 2 liter. Wow what a beauty it is, complete with original Thai box packaging. How awesome and versatile! I’m planning a GS trip to the hills above Santa Barbara now! I used to drink and ride, but now on it’s camp and ride! ⛺️

Firebox Stove is THE way to cook! We deal with the fire restrictions here in WA, so I'll switch to the Trangia gas canister burner then, but...I don't see a glass of a decent cab to to with that steak:-) Packit Gourmet might also have items in their general grocery section that will make your meals both more memorable, and varied. You might want to check out a technique called a Swedish fire torch to extend your burn time. We've also used our Firebox as a micro fire pit. A truly tremendous little gem!

I discovered your adventure trip through the western USA yesterday and I got hooked on watching your videos, which I am really enjoying.
I am fond of motorcycle trips, although now I don't have it, because it was stolen from me. Anyway I'm looking for ideas for my next BDR trip to USA, where I plan to do a tour similar to yours.

Stumbled on your vid - very nice. Thank you!
I’ve been considering a mini table, and I’ve seen that style that you have, but Ive also seen a Japanese-made pop-up table by a company called Soto. It is made of two solid sheets of aluminium (sorry.. UK spelling).
Then I figured why not make my own!?
So, next project is a solid sheet, folding aluminium table with 2 holes cut into it (for two trangier alcohol stoves) so I can cook two things simultaneously! And I can still have a firebox stove by the side... but I’d rarely cook such a huge, complex feast that requires 3 cooking pots (unless the vegetarian amongst the carnivore riders).
But I’m sure that many riders/campers sometimes would love to have two hobs to cook on.

I loved the story of you at the tender age of 8, packing a knapsack for a day trip adventure on your 50cc Honda minibike. Almost no eight year olds would be allowed to have an experience like that today. They have their iPhone calendars synced to their parents' calendars so they can go to soccer practice, kiddie martial arts, cello practice and other pre-planned socially approved recreational activities, as their helicopter parents hover nearby. I had a lot of autonomy as a child, entertaining myself. I got a ten speed bike for my 13th birthday and would ride with a couple of friends into two adjacent states, probably riding 40 miles. I guess Mom thought we were riding around the block for several hours and had no idea we had crossed state lines and were talking with the alcoholic bums who lived under the bridge. As long as I did my chores before leaving and was home for dinner, all was well.
I fear that these coddled kids will grow up to be risk averse conformists who desperately want the government and media to tell them what to do and what to think.

      1. Put beer inside an insulated water bottle thing. 2. Throw away the can at the gas station 3. Enjoy cold beer at the campsite without having to pack the empty cans or bottles out! I't has not leaked yet, although it can become somewhat pressurized during transport so you have to open it very slowly and let the pressure out a little bit before opening all of the way.

Have you thought about picking up a a 360 camera? I have blending in 360 videos in my motorcycle video and loving it. You can make some cool fake drone shots. I have the Insta360 one R. The best part is you can reframe the video, its so much more than doing gimmicky tiny planets. Here is one of my videos that I incorporated 360 video. I am not promoting anything, just do it for fun. My camera setup is a GoPro Hero 7, Insta360 One R and a Sony A6000 with a 16mm sigma for landscape shots. th-cam.com/video/EOwiOKT1fOM/w-d-xo.html

Buying and keeping food fresh on a bike is a problem. But I found out that most of the markets that sell "bulk" foods especially meats if you arrive before closing times the butcher will pack single pieces of meat. I experienced that about 10 year ago at one of those huge chain markets and I had a craving for a piece of sirloin but they only sold 4 packs and when the butcher came out I asked him if I could get a single steak and he said no problem. So basically since then I don't have to eat 2 lbs of meat! Very good travel videos/sceneries and most importantly editing. Maybe will meet on the road. Cheers

Man what an amazing serie's and little movies. so tasteful and gets me going to get back on the road. I can see now where Long Way Round from 2004 found their inspiration you were probably for them also an example. I think camera man Claudio von Planta is also not a stranger of you. Lately I'm getting into filming my own little motorcycle adventure trips as well and really see you as a great example of how to tell a story. I really love those big wide camera shots at 1:46 and 1:56. Could you please tell me wich lens you film this with! beautiful!
As a beginner video maker I'm looking to buy a versatile kit to also be able to make nice movie's. Right now I'm only having a 15-45mm kit lens. What do you recommend about having be flexible and also having options?
Would love to hear from you Sterling.
Keep on riding and making movies! greetings from The Netherlands

Hey what happened to the Hot Springs?

Well I actually did soak in the hot springs the next morning but honestly I felt too much like relaxing and not filming anything, but they are totally worth it if you are in the area.

I would be very interested in seeing how and what you are packing on your bike for this trip. I overpack so want to see how and what you have done. Great series!

@Charles Henagan I do 2-3 long trips like Sterling’s each year. In the beginning, I packed everything I could think of, I’m mean I have massive panniers why not fill them. Eventually I got tired of the extra weight, so I made a list, on my phone, of everything I had with me. Every time I used something, I’d put an x by it on my list. At the end of the trip, I looked at my list and it was obvious what I used and what I didn’t. For items I used only once or twice, I tried to find a way to use other items to serve the purpose or how to leave it home and make due without. For example, I used to bring a hiking type water filter, but then I started refilling my 100 oz. camel bak when I stopped for gas. Now I take a small water filter straw, but it hardly takes up any space.

      @@ClinttheGreat that’s super input thanks!

@@ClinttheGreat I just re-read this and have been doing what you suggested. The list keeps getting smaller and the load lighter. Now I am looking at how to do the water filter as I carry the Katadyn Vario which is too big. I have the 6L dromedary bag from MSR, not filled all the way up, and just need a smaller filter to fill that bag when I did not stop (although stopping as you suggest is the better way to go since I have to fill up anyway). thanks again!

@@thecorporategypsy Glad to hear you’re lightening your load. It has taken me a while to trim down what I pack, and I’m constantly revising my list. I always have either a water filtering straw or a Sawyer filter with me. I have a Katadyn, as well, but don’t take it with me any more. The Sawyer does the same job, but is smaller. It’s not as convenient as the Katadyn though.

@@ClinttheGreat Thats good to know I will check. I am thinking of the straw or something that will fill up a liter bottle for cooking, with Dromedary the bigger source but the straw in case I run out or forget to fill it up. The K Vario will be on eBay soon. Its very good but I need space. I want one bag on the back of the bike and everything else in the Mosko bags so need to keep thinking.

Awesome Series Sterling! My friends and I all run coolers on our GS's. Cold 805's and good food every night. Just wondering why you don't have one or do you?
