    I've done a lot of pressure washing in my day (retired) and that's a pretty big job. Brick paving is nice but because of the maintenance requirements a lot of people here (BC Canada) have opted for poured concrete that is dyed and rolled with whatever pattern they want. Looks just the same, doesn't need weeding/weed controlling, resanding/gritting or much of any care after the pour if it is also sealed. After some years it can usually do with a pressure wash/reseal and it's good for maybe another decade.

    • @PrestigeExternalCleaning
      @PrestigeExternalCleaning  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah we have that here in the UK too, it's not especially common though. It's called pattern imprinted concrete, and it's sealed with various colours. Doesn't look too good when it's worn, but as you said, when it's cleaned and re-sealed it comes up lovely again. 👍.

    Have to agree with you, one of the hardest jobs weeding it out, but then pressure washing it of and seeing it clean makes the first stage of the job rewarding, now just to do a few repairs to do. Once dry the original red colour starts to come through from under all the dirt the PW removes. Next stage is to brush in the sand and then seal it. Once done I'm hoping it'll remain wed free for the remainder of the summer!!! Now there's hoping??????

    • @PrestigeExternalCleaning
      @PrestigeExternalCleaning  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi v jary, thanks buddy. It sounds like you had a lot of work to deal with. When you've been as thorough as you've said, it'll be all good. It should stay clean and weed free for the summer for sure, probably longer. Great going 👌👍👍.

  • @seeker1432
    @seeker1432 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was doing this for a few summers some years back. Started with only small low powered washer. When i upgraded the power was too much and tended to skim over, As well as double the water use. i was also surrounded by floods and had to squeegee more away. More work. More power not always best i don't think. I was not lucky enough to have that machine though and it took me a lot longer. What you did here would i guess about 3 or 4 days. Then having to return to sand weather permitting. I never used hot water either. I find it strips the texture out of the brick. After numerous times they start looking tired and old. as well as hot water penetrating under the bricks that cause the drive way to have dips eventually. Perhaps the grit is much better, But i never used that. But boy i was knacked by the end of the day. I got screwed once also. I quoted on small drive, But a learning process for me was that the bricks had no edges and didn't close together the same. Took me double the sand and took a hell of a lot longer to do for what i quoted and it hurt.

    There seems to be some confusion among some viewers over why I have applied grit and not sand. I apply grit and not sand to the block paving in this video, because this is a specific, lesser known type of block paving, with slightly different shaped blocks, that have bigger gaps that allow for the grit that is required for drainage. I Haven't chosen to use grit instead of sand, it's what's required. This following link will explain it in much more detail. www.pavingexpert.com/permeable04

    • @mydevices5503
      @mydevices5503 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But the gaps were clearly filled with dirt deep down. Even with applying new grit on top, that drainage is zero! 😂

      @@mydevices5503 It’s impossible to completely remove the build up of dirt and silt in between the joints without lifting all the blocks and removing it all right down to the base. You are also completely incorrect about the drainage, I was cleaning a patio of one of the properties down that private road only last week, and it was raining heavily, the water was draining away freely and efficiently.

    • @PrestigeExternalCleaning
      @PrestigeExternalCleaning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Ryan 👍 , but I should point out that i didn't choose to use grit over sand, it was what was already there, I just replaced what I took out during the cleaning process. This particular type of block paving requires grit in the joints, not sand. 🙂👍

      Hey Ched mate, it was a good earner for a couple of days work that's for sure. I've cleaned a few of these SUDS driveways before, the only hassle with them is having to order the grit and have it delivered, and making sure someone is there to take delivery as it's not readily available in most builders merchants to go and pick up.
      It was 3 custy's clubbing together mate. I've worked for all 3 individually before, cleaning their personal drives, patios, decking and gutters. Cheers mate, Nick.

    • @PrestigeExternalCleaning
      @PrestigeExternalCleaning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, on 99% of block paving jobs we do, we re-sand. This is a special type of block paving shown here www.pavingexpert.com/permeable04
      This job required 2-6mm granite. The granite is for drainage, as there will be no traditional drainage channels, so it can't be sealed, as that would stop the water draining through the grit/granite. 👍

      Hey Neil, thanks a lot mate, top guy 👍. Yeah the SUDS paving's not very common, it's used more and more these days though, sometimes it's hard to tell by looking at the gaps/joints if they're full of moss, so a good indicator is if there's no drainage channels, then a scrape at the joints with a key will tell you for sure 👍.
      Looking forward to my my new machine too mate, it's been a long time coming if i'm honest. Yeah really pleased with the direction my channel's heading at the moment, just hope it lasts. Thanks again mate, always love to hear your comments 👌👍.

    Great work Nick. Recently started doing this up north, in Scotland. Running same machine pressure as yourself, and bought an xjet. However xjet isnt pulling hypo from container for some reason. Its the right xjet for machine tho. Can i ask what color tip you generally use, and is the pressure of your machine at its max? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Peter. 👍

    • @PrestigeExternalCleaning
      @PrestigeExternalCleaning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate. Thanks a lot. The normal cause of that in my experience, is that the hose attached to the X-Jet, that feeds the x-jet from the drum has curled inside the drum, isn't sitting in the hypo properly, and is sucking in air. I cut my hose down to roughly 80-90cm because of that issue, you just need to make sure the bottom of the hose is sitting at the bottom of the drum, sucking up the chemical, and not taking in any air. It should work perfectly then 👍
