    That last integrity is the true hero. I'm actually surprised for only one who could be heard from where you were at and yea they need to replace the broken alarms. It's odd that even the strobes didn't work on the broken ones. I'd say that place would fail a fire alarm inspection.

    • @gentexguy
      @gentexguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the echo-y concrete ceilings and floors helped amplify the sound a bit.

    • @trevormacewan
      @trevormacewan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gentexguy Usually it does kinda the reason why we they don't really put horns in bathrooms anymore because of ceramics and how sounds bounce off of it. That said, obviously you want all your alarms working.

    • @gentexguy
      @gentexguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trevormacewan Yeah, and also NFPA 72 says that the alarms have to be 15dB louder than the average ambient noise in any given area. A bathroom isn't typically a very loud place with the exception of hand dryers, and those are usually only on for a brief period of time. But the alarms outside of a restroom are usually loud enough that they can be distinctly heard inside the restroom, which is why most only have strobes now. However, I have seen horn/strobes in larger restrooms with lots of traffic, but even those are probably set on low volume.

      I always thought these EST integrity horns were the loudest ones due to their pitch. We had the rare “power saver” integrity horn strobes mixed with a few normal ones, and they were torture to my little ears whenever they decided to do a fire drill. While the ones at my high school (EST Genesis EG1) were still startling, they never had the same effect for me. The single worst thing about the integrity horn strobe was, they had a little noise from the strobe before the horn went off. (This seemed to be true with both the normal ones and the power savers.) When I heard this noise, I would reflexively move my hands toward my ears, and it sometimes even triggered a “duck for cover” Response as if someone kicked a ball and it flew right near my head. Unfortunately, this caused similar noises to trigger that reflex, so if I heard a little high pitched buzz, there was a good chance for many years afterwards that I would either jump, blink, move my hands toward my ears, or duck slightly.
