Keep up the good work Cody. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sticking with your Trooper when others have abandoned them and us. You are a Super Trooper!
I bought a '99 Trooper last year and have plans for a build once I save up some cash. My build plan is similar to yours and I love watching your vids to see the potential my machine has.
@@corywilliamsmith the supercharger is an Eaton M62 so they are fairly common, it's the intake manifold and brackets for the pulley that are impossible to find. They didn't come from the factory on any Isuzu's it was a kit sold by a company called Alpine.
Hey Cody I had a 87 and a 91 trooper way back, and now I have a 2001 trooper my first automatic transmission seems to be running and working okay, knock on wood I do miss the first ones I had
I was a little intimidated by it, but it wasn't that bad! break loose the two bolts on the control arm that hold the torsion bar, and go to down loosening the big torsion bar bolt. The hardest part for me is the torsion key and bolt were all super dry and those parts are supposed to be greased. it was very hard to get off. When i put it back i greased everything to factory specs in the manual and they turned on so much easier. my issue was i didn't mark the old torsion bar, so I kind of had to guess when I put it back together. came out alright! and they are a much needed improvement
@@0550rigo the ladder was custom made, but it's built to spec to the special Icelandic trooper, as far as I know. It's modeled after an actual factory ladder! I have a few video ideas in the works! Thanks for watching
Thanks! First time off roading with the KYB shocks and everything else you reccomdneded for me, its a great setup!! It's got a high flow cat, flowmaster 40 series and 2.5 inch pipe for everything after the Y pipe :)
@@mehGyver gosh it's been so long with this setup I don't remember, I've only had the single high flow one for around 6 years. I wonder if your trooper had California emissions or something
I'm looking at a 2000 Trooper auto 4x4 with 130K miles. Looks to be in decent condition from pictures online. Should I go for it, or run away? Money pit?
I'd say it's worth checking out! See if the owner can be honest about if it burns oil. Then make sure the transmission isn't showing signs of issues. Then it's just maintenance from there, check the CV boots, bushings, etc. You never know till you check it out!
Huge improvement! My trooper weighs almost 5000 lbs with my gear and myself. The torsion bars with the high spring weight make the front end so much stiffer, which is nice because the bumper and winch add a lot of weight much further up front compared to stock. And the KYB monomax shocks are very stiff - but not in a bad way, it handles like a more modern car, much more responsive. Definitly prefer this setup compared to stock springs and Ranch RS5000 shocks that I had before.
Mine is a 1998. 98-02 is considered the 2.5 gen, since the grille was updated among other things. Depending on what part of the country you are in they are pretty easy to come across. These are definitely oddballs, especially today, cant believe mine is over 20 years old now.
What transmission is in your Trooper?. Is it the 4L30E or AR5?. The reason I ask is because my 4L30E is going to need a rebuild and I'm seriously thinking about a manual transmission swap.
Mine is the AR5, and it's held up great! However I feel like the synchro for 1st gear is starting to go. It has 243,000 miles on it and it's great. A MUA5 or AR5 swap would be awesome! On the Isuzu Trader Facebook group a member there has been working hard on rebuilding 4L30Es with better parts and fixing the internal flaws in that transmission and making them better than stock.
@@CodyShell If I can't find a donor vehicle with the AR5, I'm probably going to rebuild the 4L30E myself with better than stock parts. If your were wondering, I have a 2000 Trooper.
@@marvicty I know the manual transmission in the pontiac solstice and saturn sky is an AR5, but I think the gear ratios are a little different. I'm sure with time you'll come across one!
What kind of ball joints are you running? And where did you get them? I own a 2002 4x4 5spd trooper that needs a complete suspension overhaul and want really good ball joints and shocks. Also what kind of tie rods are you running? I noticed you had some HD tie rods in previous videos. Are you still running those?
I'm still running the HD tie rods from Independent4X, they are holding up good. I just put new rubber tie-rod boots on my set, they're about 8 years old now. My ball joints and CVs are just the duralast ones from autozone, nothing fancy. my last set of upper ball joints were duralast ones and they lasted quite awhile. I was just going for the most affordable option at the time. I'm pretty happy with the turn out
The supercharger is a very hard to find kit that hasn't been produced in a long time. Surprisingly under wide open throttle and hard driving MPG isn't that much worse than factory. With a light foot on the petal going 65 mph I can get 19 mpg with the supercharger
Hey Cody. Love your videos man and thanks for all the info you are sharing dude, awesome stuff. Do you have an Instagram? Would love to follow your build. I just moved to Costa Rica and picked up a 98 Trooper with the 3.1 Turbo Diesel. Can't wait to start wrenching on it 😁👍
