S.Sudan Abyei Region

  • Calm has resumed in Abyei region after days of conflict that left an estimated 35 people dead. Security forces have been put on high alert to curb a recurrence of the skirmishes that sent shockwaves across Southern Sudan as citizens exercised their right to self determination in the ongoing historic referendum exercise. However, the Abyei area administrative unit placed blame on the Khartoum Government for allegedly instigating the chaos, as it seeks to maintain its hold over the oil rich region. Francis Gachuri reports from Abyei.

    South Africa may be the only post colonialism/ apartheid country where their leaders seem to have done them right. For Kenya the problem dates back to independence when great champions for freedom like Kenyatta got power and chose to empower themselves instead of Kenyans. Moi did the same, and Kibaki is sleeping on the job while Business As Usual continues. Sudan, like other Islamic countries have no concept of democracy or freedom of religion.
