I got to hug Hunter Parrish and he signed my playbill and I told him that I loved him and he said he loved me too and I cried like a little baby, lmao.
I have the honor of participating in this play as my very first theatrical production. We are nearing completion, and I get chills every time I hear "Beautiful City". Does anyone by chance have the full production of this Broadway play?
OMG!!! i just went to see this today. it was UNBELIEVABLELY BRILLIANT. It was just- wow. the moment it ended and it was time to leave, i wanted then to do it all over again! X3 definately something i want to watch again!
Saw the matinee this past Saturday, Feb 04, and just was moved by the super engery that surges through the audience! Made me feel like I was part of the show. AMAZING cast!! THANK YOU for bring this back!
You are!?!? im a great fan of his, thanks to him im inspired to be on broadway one day like him. ^^ I got his autograph after one of the shows. Tell him if you can that he hes simply amazing and a wonderful singer.
It's based on the Gospel of Matthew. How can she say it's not a religiously themed show? That doesn't mean if you aren't religious you're not going to enjoy it, but to deny it's obvious religious themes is disrespectful to the show itself and insulting to the audience. No wonder it came and went so fast.
She never says that its not a religiously themed show. She says its not a show made for religious people. Its a show that depicts a community of people rallying behind the teachings of an influential person and going out and living by those principals. Its base is in the Christian religion, but that's not the theme of the show. Please, before making accusations make sure you quote accurately and do not take what someone says out of context.
ty2kalamazoo That's a very fair criticism and you are right that I did misrepresent what she said. My bad. It just seemed to me that she was almost apologizing for the fact that there is a biblical basis for the show.
As stated earlier, whilst the themes and basis for the show are from Jesus's parables, the MESSAGE is not "Hey convert to Christianity if you liked what this cast was loosely retelling", it's about community which, if you really want to be religious with this, is more of Jesus's message than any of the parables. We're doing this show for community theatre right now which is very fitting. The flowers they're wearing are a symbol of community and during Beautiful City they are removed, signifying that the cast no longer needs the outward manifesto (Wicked! Stephen Schwartz=God of Playwrights) of their sense of togetherness and community, it's inside them. This is really shown through the opening because none of the cast know each other and bicker until John shows up. Then at the end they all carry Jesus's body out into the audience then out the door together to show they'll be together forever because of him and they'll spread the word.
Celisse Celisse Celisse....Godspell as religious written all over it, in it and about it...I guess it was just another job as a cast member...I'm sorry, but you missed its essence

She said that the show is not just for religious people. She did not say what you think she said. Go back and listen again. Or do you think movies such as the Ten Commandments are just for religious people?
Haha that disney chick from Camp Rock is actually talking about Camp Rock in this clip? If i was the casting director i purposely wouldnt cast her just from being in that.
saw it twice - just as it was in the original - many many members of the audience were brought up onto the stage during Light of the World up until Turn Back Oh Man - to dance, drink grape juice and hang out......
Yes - how DARE it be a show about religion. Yet another example of the degradation of our country - to even consider the possibility that something religious has value. (That's sarcasm, BTW)

I wish there was a video of the whole show :(

I'm so jealous that they have trampolines onstage.
Where is Jesus' superman shirt?
me trying to figure who played Jeffery in godspell bc i am in it rn
NANCY!!
A Goldstein directing a piece about Jesus?
why not Jesus and the disciples were Jewish too.
That was not my impression when I saw it. I totally bought him as John the Baptist, then Judas.

She didn't say that at all.
@neonlights777 Actually she kinda sounds regretful that she brought it up. She was like "...in a movie I did... >:( Camp Rock.
Celisse Celisse Celisse....Godspell as religious written all over it, in it and about it...I guess it was just another job as a cast member...I'm sorry, but you missed its essence

Got to sell the product any way they can!

I saw this the same day Darren Criss saw it :D
@NYJokster97 and??!??
john the baptist/judas is the best!!!
0 people weren't lifted up on stage.
saw it twice - just as it was in the original - many many members of the audience were brought up onto the stage during Light of the World up until Turn Back Oh Man - to dance, drink grape juice and hang out......
when an actor is seen as an an actor then they are not an actor....
Way to modernize the message
Pigs would fly before audience members would be allowed on stage.

James Netusil good god what you said was trite
Aryan Jesus. Hmm...
GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow...so wrong for the song "prepare ye" not to be sung more honestly...wow for the director to not see that is amazing....no wonder this failed
I guess you had to be there, but the production was very honest right from the baptism to the death/resurreection
